Yeah,I get those are common complaints, but they are, well, kind of wrong complaints. The issue with the soundtrack is it's ambient nature doesn't sit well with most people. That doesn't mean there isn't any.

What story awards has it won? Because that the only thing it imho doesn't deserve, 'cause the overall story was pretty weak.
You can't really say opinions are wrong :XD And I can't say you're wrong for liking the very minimalistic tunes in Botw more than if it had great soundtracks with much effort and thoughts put into them, since idk it's your preference for an open world game? It's overgeneralized to say it has no soundtrack, but that's what it comes down to when there's no memorable tracks in a game from a game series renown for it's amazing soundtrack. You can't be surprised that people would call the soundtrack very bad or even nonexistant, since it is a big disappointment for Zelda standards.

Ikr, feels like "Hey all that stuff sounds cool, I want to know more!" only to keep reading and not understand a thing :notlikethis

I can say I Iike a lot Zelda games, and I can say that this Breath of the Wild looks pretty cool, though it also looks like breaking the formula that made the series so good.

You misunderstood the gameplay part, I said basically what you said. That it has its mechanics and lets you have fun with it yourself, and that makes the gameplay. But compared to games that give you actual gameplay are just a lot more fun for me. Wuth that I mean the gameplay experience which was especially crafted by the makers which you‘re intended to have. Be it an rpg, a strategy game, or a mixture of things. Compared to all that which is carefully made to be fun, the approach of open world games like Botw is bland and lazy.

You mean the island that takes away your equipment? Pointless since you can still use all modules. Throwing bombs/stopping time is endlessly broken, especially together with all the hearts you have when you get to it, make it ridiculously simple for whats supposed to be a challenge...
The biggest fun U had was killing a white Lynel with 3 stars. But even that is rather simple with timestp and arrows.

I heard that soundtrack argument somewhere before, and it‘s just silly for me. Hearing 1 musical note played every 20 seconds and call it fitting and immersive is so much weaker than having memorable tracks.

Hah it won a story award? At best the story is barely mediocre compared to many other Zelda games.

Pretty sure thats accurate about the bonus unit.
Well, if your definition of gameplay is that it is content crafted by the creators of the game to be experienced by the player, BotW has a ton of gameplay. Because the creative team has put a great amount of work into the game to make it so that you can experience Hyrule in a very free roaming manner explorative manner. That what was how they intended the game to be experienced. So by that definiton, it has a lot of gameplay.

If you mean by gameplay a very structured plotted experience, then no, BotW doesn't have a lot of gameplay. But yeah, it is a vague term. But calling BotW lazy? Hell no. Thats seriously disrespecting of the effort put in creating of the game. Sure, it could have used a stronger story and some variety on the challenge side of things, but lazy? Nah.

Well, I had a lot of fun playing with all the possibilities the game provides. If you felt it was easy, well then you are a pretty good player, and obviously stuff like Dark Souls appeal to you more. For me the difficulty was great. Sure, it got easy after a while, but getting to that point sure was fun to me. I do agree that bombs and time stopping is incredibly powerful. But then again, how would the game be without them or if they worked differently? Probably not as fun. Though I do think we have kinda different tastes of fun in games.

1 note? Really? But yes, this we accomplished that it isn't the sort of music that appeals to you. But saying it doesn't have soundtrack is wrong. Also, out of curiosity, do you have experience in making music? Because from the little I know, making well flowing ambient sound world is a lot more difficult than people make it out to be. Especially if it is tied to code to go smoothly from situation to another. And making big epic orchestra pieces, is kind formulaic at times. Not saying it is easy either, but different kind of hard.

No that's not the definition, gameplay is about fun. I just tried explaining why I think other games more dedicated to it's gameplay are more fun than the open world-esque gameplay. And it's not lazy/bland on its own, but compared to games whose gameplay is more pre-defined than the sandbox do-what-you-want formula, because it's up to you the player and your creativity how long you can keep fighting the same enemies with the same weapons before it's boring.

I think the bombs should have had more cooldown, and keep timestop strictly for objects. The ability to just keep throwing bombs endlessly from a high position(whereas stuff like arrows are at least limited), and the ability to just za warudo even bosses is pretty gamebreaking. The ancient arrows 1-shotting the hardest enemies in the game turning them into material grinding is also rather questionable imo.

Don't take it so literally :XD Not just one note, but you get what I mean with that. It's minimalistic sound has it's appeal but I can't see why anyone would prefer that over the usual Zelda masterpieces.
No I don't have experience in making music, and sure there's also difficulty in creating those so it's not like they just went the easy route I suppose. But that's missing the point with why the music disappoints.

Even though I didn't grow up playing the Zelda games, they are pretty good.

But those aren't really opinions. They are stating 'facts' that are wrong. BotW has gameplay and it has soundtrack. It isn't just gameplay or music in sense that some would prefer, but saying that it just isn't there is wrong. That like saying that rap isn't music, just because you don't like rap. That is wrong, it is still music, you like it or not.

I understand the dissapointment for the soundtrack on old school Zelda fans, because it is a one of the Zelda conventions they did totally do a 180 with. It's completly different from what Zelda has done before. I never said that I was surprised that not all people like it. What I just said is that saying it has no soundtrack isn't true. Because it has a soundtrack. Also, liking the new ambient style here and liking big orchestrated tracks of old aren't mutually inexclusive. I do enjoy well crafted classical music. I loved Odyssey, and I love Final Fantasy and old Zelda.

This is my thoughts about sound desgining in general. It is just sometimes, that the tracks are so overwhelmingly big, that it actually distracts from the playing. You actually stop and think that hey, this music is very good. Or maybe it just doesn't fit the mood, feels out of place. If the music actually takes your attention a way from everything else for a while, it isn't necessarily a good thing, even if the track itself is great. They did something different in BotW, and for me it worked. For a contrary experience, I didn't like Xenoblade 2s soundtrack that much, while it seems to be loved by the internet. Sure, there are awesome epic tracks, very adrealine pumping fight music and dramatic boss themes. But for me the game was exhausting to listen at times, going from a big high tempo track to another.

To put it short, would I listen BotW soundtrack while doing house choires or hitting the gym? No. Would I listen to Xenoblade songs? Yes. But while it comes the overall experience while gaming, BotW appealed to me more, while Xenoblades music could be distracting and exhausting. Old Zeldas did hit a very good balance though with the more toned down pieces and the big sounds.

But that is how you literally wrote it in your original post. But despite that, BotW isn't actually that sandy boxy. While it is clearly designed to be an explorative experience, there are clearly some pre-planned routes, carefully place enviromental elements to use and mix with the mechanics. There is a lot of careful design in the game. But yeah, it is a lot about the player creativity and approach. More enemy types would have indeed been nice. But for me the freedom and creativity was fun. Doesn't mean I don't also enjoy a carefully designed game challenge with structured story plot worked in. But it was a nice change, a fresh experience. Even if it didn't do thing that differently from previous open worlds, I still had a lot more fun with it than Skyrim for example.

Yeah, you could really spam those bombs. Though with the breaking weapons mechanic, something like that was kinda necessary to not make the most casuals of players to frustrate over 'not being able to fight because I can't get a weapon'. Balancing a game is so tricky business. You wanna appease to the gamers, but you still wanna keep the game accesible for varies skill levels. Atleast stopping enemies didn't unlock quite at the start. But yeah, it was a strong ability. Lead to some hilarious moments though. Particulary after I realized I could stop a riding Bokoblin, but the horse would keep galloping.

Talking about horses, I bet one of the reasons why Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed, was the fact that they had to re-do the horses after BotW, because they worked so well in it.

And I never said preferred BotW music over old Zelda music. I can like both styles of music right? But for BotW style of a game, I think the ambient route was a lot better and creative choice than the traditional orchestra. If it was structured in the way the previous Zelda games had been, it wouldn't have worked at all. And as I said, BotW music isn't something I'd listen while hanging out at my place, while older classic tunes certainly are that type of thing.

Well, it's been out for almost an year, so now I think it's good time to keep eye on price drops. Or even second hands, as there are pound to be people dissapointed in their Christmas Switches.
It’s more about me not having time to play ever than not affording it... at least not the hundreds of hours I want to spend on it..

Open-world fatigue is a real thing. A lot of people are just burnt out on that kind of gameplay loop.

To me it kind of depends. In a game like Skyrim (sry people that like traditional TES '-') or New Vegas that you have so much variety from the very start of the game and so many different builds I don't feel it at all. But now for instance I'm playing Bloodborne (which is rather lineal for a souls game but some aspects remain) and going into a huge dark forest trying to not miss a single item is a pain.

Fair point, the first Zelda game was an open world game but it was also very short and extremely challenging (no map, easy to die...). Its simple gameplay and complete lack of storyline was countered with tons of planification and secrets to exploit (you could go straight to the 5th dungeon if you wanted to, but like hell you will pass it if you dont kill yourself collecting rupees, buying equipment and finding hearts and weapons. It was with the formula of ALttP (the third game) that the series got more balance though.

Again, I didn't play this new game and I heard very good things of it, but I get the strains that an open world game can make if its too long or becomes too easy. Actually I find difficulty a key in this part, and games nowadays are way too unchallenging so that could be it.
