Your argument for digital sales pretty much counters itself.
We have no numerical data for WSJ series and yet we have people here blatantly stating it as if it was a relevant source of evidence that a series is doing well even you pointing that sales argument is stupid "with start of digital sales". I've always been of the opinion that the digital sales average across the industry/market should not be applicable to WSJ or an individual distributor.
The few lists we have available show a very similar trend of tops series. I'm not gonna even try to imply that gives the whole picture. But my argument based on these few available data is WAY more valid than the non-existent data people like to throw around here.
And TBH, if digital sales for WSJ series were spectacular, WSJ would be advertising it like crazy because digital is the new medium, we all know that. Them showing that their series are doing well in the digital market space would have a positive impact especially for their digital platforms. The fact they haven't released anything even for a big ass series like One Piece or MHA more likely hints at it not being a big factor in their sales percentage yet.
I rest my case. Stop bringing up digital sales because as of now, it might well as be non-existent for most of WSJ series.
It is stupid, all discussion about sales is stupid, because you will never have all the actual info Jump have. It's stupid, because people like to use it to measure their e-penis, even though they have nothing to do with a certain series. It became more stupid with the start of digital era, because we started to get even less info than we had and making judgements on insignificant data and claiming it as facts, its stupid. Like seeing the first 2 weeks of a series selling 100k, while the other one do 150k and claiming it's better seller, when you don't know in a year, how much both of them actually sell. And lack of digital sales numbers, doesn't make the situation better. I can't defend what other people say, I can defend what I say. I don't see how my comment counters itself while I'm basically saying: "we don't have data, we can't just if it sells a lot or not & and because of that I can't agree with your statement of how much they sell, because u too don't have the data." I can't say or care which series sells more in digital, but they obviously sell and you can't know if it's non-existent or not. Certainly, they may not sell 500-700k, but even 100-200k is significant.
Few lists means absolutly nothing in the big picture. In physical sales we don't get "few stores sales". Certain regions, certain shops, can sell more of a particular series and if you end up exploring and basing your opinion only on such few shops, you get wrong info. Even if Jump series ends in the 100+ places for year sales on certain shops, doesn't mean their top 100 entirely the same for each shop. If you can combine all the sales from all shops, and Jump titles are not there, then you can make your statement. And the major shop of Jump is their site. And you lack that info. How to explain it, for me obviously the Jump site makes more Jump series sales than any other shop. But we lack the info from the most major Jump seller, so I can't say if it sells a lot or non-existent. You argument in a way is indeed more valid, since it's based on some data, but it also WAY more incorrect, because it's based on not enough data and "based" shops. That's like saying: "I went to 3 of the biggest & popular lakes/seas and captured those 3 types of fish, so all other types of fish are non-existent in the lakes/seas." Yeah, sure.
And why would they need to advertise it? They do advertise sales sometimes, but as a whole, as being digital or physical doesn't matter for them. Also I don't see any other publisher advertising they sell a lot of digital. I mean, with the data that digital sold more than physical, surely some publisher will have a series that benefits more from digital than physical, yet I don't see them coming out and stating it. But since like the rest, when Jump also don't do it, it suddenly must be because it doesn't sell. I can't agree with that logic: no one does it, but since Jump doesn't do it, it must be because of that.
I didn't really bring it, you started it. I only said "digital sales not included" & "that I find it stupid to talk about (any) sales, especially after the digital market started" (since we don't have info, and arguing what sells more in that case is stupid). You are the one that started to say how much they don't sell and non-existent they are. And I don't agree with that, not because I say they sell same in digital, but because we lack info (especially from Jump site) to make any statement. So I don't agree they sell non-existent, but also don't agree they sale same in digital.
On a side note, last year I saw Jump bringing lots of older series to the digital market. Like Kain, a cancelled series. If the sales are non-existent, why would they even bother? Especially for a series that failed even in physical sales. In the same time I still wait for Kodansha and Shogakukan to digitalize some of their old series...
