I feel like it's a good idea to launch a lot of new manga series right now. Thanks to Samurai 8 debut a lot of new people will watch Jump very closely. It will be a while before something similar will get the magazine so much attention again.

Haikyuu is the best answer for this questions.
That's all folks.
Lol
And haikyuu is ending? Did they announce that he's in the end?

Lol

it's just that this is a double-edged sword. can be very right or very wrong.

Haikyuu and Kuroko were running together for like 2 years and we don't know how much furudate had planned.
If I were the EiC , I would try to try to have another popular spokon

Not sure if that's true. WSJ probably would want ALL eyes on Samurai 8. It would be counter productive to release other series and take some of that attention away. Samurai 8 is WSJ's best chance at a sure hit and they know that, as you can see with all the promotion.

Then what would be counter productive is to publish and waste time in trying 3 more other series to end up axing or cancelling them all because full focus is directed to Samurai 8. I'd understand it as a bit of both strategies, to get attention and hype thanks to Kishimoto's comeback and create a whole advertisement campaing for Samurai 8, and with all that gained readership, try other potential series with topics not-related to the main point of S8 like, in this case, sports. Even if I still think 3 more series is kind of a high number (maybe just 2 other series could have been okay), I don't think they are only focusing on the biggest series since it really doesnt need any kind of big promotion to succeed (like, lol, licensed already worldwide seems enough for me). It may end up as a complete failure if none of the other 3 series is able to get attention or they all end up being completely non-interesting, but that depends only on the quality they show.

I know, if it was the haikyuu close to finalizing I swear I would agree. But we're talking about hinomaru zumou, which is the least selling manga on the jump, so much so that the second of chainsaw man sold more than zumou.

I think Haikyuu could perfectly end in 2022 at this rhytm. They could reach similar lengths levels to JoJo parts 1-5.

It's speculation because releasing the first volume in october makes no sense, not because youtuber talking.
Toriko volume 1 came out when the manga had 24 chapters. Although it did get 2 volumes out at the same time. Another thing is: normally they would rush to get first volume at 12-15 chapters, so they see what sales it gets and decide it's future. Samurai 8 is obviously immune to early cancellation, so no need to rush. Another thing may be, they know it will be taking more breaks (like OP). Will see, but feels if it was monthy, Kishi would have been doing it himself and not get an artist.

Relating to that point about sports and gag manga, I dunno, maybe consider the nature of the market and question how worth investing in them actually is? I think the fact that Jump launched four different gag manga in less than six months with zero competition from popular series, and all of them still flopped says to me that the genre simply isn't worth investing in anymore.

well, shonen jump has never been to seals in other manga genres other than battle shonen, of course you have a haikyuu or a slam dunk of life but the main one has always been the battle, the others have always been in the background.
everyone remembers the old trinity of the jump; Naruto, bleach and one piece.
this is an old thinking is not because of the current president (Nakano).

Well, with sport manga, I think the problem there is simply that we're reaching a point where so much has been done with the genre that it's become hard to do anything really eye-catching. Unlike battle manga, which can be about basically anything with enough creativity, sport is kinda limited by the glass ceiling of being about, you know, sports.

Not really, might be different for other people but I generally read sports manga for the characters and how they grow first and foremost, the sport comes second. The problem with the recent sports series we've had are that they're just boring and the characters don't feel "real", not the sports themselves. They've just been bad in general.

Good counterargument, but then the question becomes what exactly makes a sport manga feel "real" and thus interesting. Because the interest certainly isn't from speed of the plot, Haikyuu by the end of Volume 1 hadn't even put the protagonist team in a formal match.

What do you mean by "seals in other manga"?

What recent spokons have you had problems with? Personally Eyeshield was enjoyable but many of the characters weren't human enough to empathize fully with.

True. You're actually not wrong. It could be any way tbh. We don't know for sure what WSJ are thinking.
