There's not much to mention rn tbh. Rizu's declaration doesn't seem foreshadowed but in any case I'm looking forward to the arc. It's pretty funny how it's actually true that Taishi can only write family-related serious stories hehe. Personal inspiration I suppose. Anyway should be good
I mean, the man did use to be a Yakuza.

I didn't think before the chapter but remembering some parts of her, I feel that it makes sense with how she never seemed to valorize her good points. Still, I think this is one that has quite the potential with the question of self-stem from her. Looking forward to it.

Am I blind or Black Clover just pulled a 4 page (2 for 2) spread at the end? Holy crap!
Decent chapter for Chainsawman.

Guys, the official release of Samurai 8 is out. It improves the art by at least 50%. Or so I hear. :kappa

Tokyo Shinobi Squad feels like gintama, although without the signature humour.

Watch as another 10 people tell me that because only five chapters are out that I can't judge the series.

Dropping Double Taisei. There is potential somewhere down there, but it does not deliver. For a manga that is marketed as a shogi manga, it hardly is one/does it poorly as there is no explanation for anything that happens there (and this chapter literally repeated the Chapter 2 beginning for some odd reason). SoL? Nah, it doesnt have a strong character cast here. I feel like this manga would have been 100 better if it refocused itself without shogi to mess up the pace. Pair it with mediocre art, and pace that suddenly became extremely slow and you get an all around weak manga. Axe fodder that will be forgotten in 1 month by everyone.

It can definitely feel hollow at times.

I dropped the rugby manga. Didn't like it.

About TSS, I'm happy that I didn't feel nationalism vibes in this second chapter and we even saw japanese villains so I'm more certain that what happened on the first chapter was an accident, at least so far. Let's see on the next chapters.

I mean, the author didn't even hire a Shogi consultant until Chapter 3, so that probably says something about their priorities.

Yeah, and considering that the villain is a land developer and one of the protagonists goes on a spiel about cops being useless, I'm willing to believe the authors politics do actually lean more left than right.

Anyway, what's going on with the next batch? Because, while Yui seems like it could be ending, Saiyuki really doesn't. Is Jump actually giving the series a chance?

Anyone seeing an obnoxious video (OP related, not that it matters) when browsing this thread on mobile? It takes up more than half the screen...

TSS....eh. I think supercow explained the Chapter 2 well. Great art (and an action Matrix like bit), but this chapter was just another showcase of how our bishonen MC is so edgy, cool, badass and OP. Meh. Move the story along or die by getting axed. The manga is called Tokyo Shinobi Squad, introduce the members instead of pushing a random filler for no reason.

I will admit that Samurai 8 became *slightly* more interesting for me, but it is still very weak, especially for a story from a veteran mangaka. Hey, at least it is better than some other questionable newbies, so there is that. *sob*.

Fair arguments with TSS. I feel like we need to consider things a bit more before we move forwards. At least, I find it the most promising of this batch, which is otherwise "train-wreck", "what the ever-living hell" and "extremely forgettable".

And honestly, I don't think Samurai 8 improved at all. Kishi gave a bit of exposition on what exactly the samurai are fighting with, but the manga still feels directionless, and I have no idea what is going on. Where are they training, for example? I thought Daruma had just landed on this planet, but suddenly he has a cave to train Hachimaru?

Ironically, I am enjoying Beast Children from now (Chapter 2 was very pointless and boring, besides the great twist at the end). It ticks 2 boxes that I want from a manga early on: fast paced and fast introduction to the main characters. The art is very uneven but passable. Still very, very generic, and the characters are still largely unlikeable, but I find it better than I am expecting it to be. Or maybe my expectations became too low recently....

We’ll see how Vol. 1 sells.
That is if they even live until mid-July for sales results to complete.

Oh I agree on both counts. If TSS plays it's cards well, it could potentially do decent. For now, it's not there.
Regarding the S8 training, I assume the explanations will happen next week. It's a shame, since I think Samurai 8 has a great setting to boot and an interesting premise that can go in lots of ways. Sadly, it's still just on the "potential" level.

Yes, although it only pops up for me when I'm not logged in

It's hard to make a sports manga that doesn't feel "generic" at this point, I guess. Not unless it's something like Blue Lock, but that couldn't run in Jump because Blue Lock takes Jump ideals, drags it behind the shed, beats it to death with a baseball bat, and then urinates on the remains.

I mean, considering next chapter will resolve Volume 1, I feel it's a little late at this point to get readers really invested.

It still could easily end after the Korouri is defeated, do the whole "we beat this threat, but there's still a long way to go" ending that's so common with axed series. I think I'll hold on to blind hope for just a little longer though, hopefully it gets a chance to see how the first volume sells before ending.

Of the four new series, Beast Children is the one I like the most, though that isn't saying much. The introduction to this new team was actually kind of interesting.

Blue Lock takes Jump ideals, drags it behind the shed, beats it to death with a baseball bat, and then urinates on the remains.
...I guess that's a pretty accurate way of describing Blue Lock. It kind of seems more like a death game series than a sports series, which is actually appropriate considering the author.
