The toc is simply the Index of the mangazine.
It also is sorta a "popularity poll" because obviously a magazine isn't going to put an axed series in the first pages and the popular series or series growing is better to be near to more popular series.
But in the end, the TOC isn't an exact tool to see anything that isn't "this series is going to be axed".

What do you think was it about the chapter that propelled it to a high tank? While we're at it, let's discuss what happened in the respective series' chapters that either helped them get a higher rank or vice versa. I think this might sound interesting

1. That chapter had a Color Page which is advertised on the magazine cover
2. Start of a new arc
3. Rising sales trend
4. Good chapter.

It was interesting reading the old threads when people actually cared/thought wrongly like I did though every week.

2. The past few chapters are about characters suffering self-doubt and how changes in thinking help them break negative mindset, featuring a 300+ chapter character development.

Shouldn't a cooking manga be about cooking? Shokugeki no Soma still has lots of cooking in every chapter, but does that mean its quality is up? And it's not that it's unrealistic cooking that is necessarily the problem, as Eyeshield and Kuroko did unrealistic sports very well. Your rhetorical question is unfair and clearly biased.

The last few chapters were characters losing points, and being sad. That's pretty much it. We've seen this hundreds of times in Haikyuu already. It's as if there's nothing new to write. Even the current antagonist's team right now has a pretty lackluster backstory.

Oh I meant WYJ TOC translations vince posts in the thread for it, no big deal. TOC had pages and pages of discussions back 2009-2011 and even after that.

Main point is that rarely who cares about TOCs in general anymore.

I was mostly joking. But Soma's last volume is going to come out when the anime starts, so there's not a lot to promote left after that, and the series has been going down hard in popularity, so it's hard to see why they'd spend resources in giving it an anime now of all times. Hypothetically speaking, I think a 'Bleach:Final Season' could have better ratings than it even after all this time and probably sell more merchandise and extra stuff. Just to be clear : No, I don't think it's gonna happen. It's just that not a lot of people thought Soma was gonna happen either so maybe more dumbfounding stuff can happen .
