the longevity of Black clover will depend on the upcoming arcs and how their popularity will be after the end since bow, which is the best until the manga to date. But he has the potential to go far.
Boku no hero also has a chance to go far, I think even more than Black clover, after all he has not had a moment so ape with the elves arc of Black clover, at most had the kidnapping of bakugou.

Black Clover isn't some unpopular flop, it's a really successful series. It's sales are good enough to last however long it wants to as long as they don't drop too much.

700 chapters are too many for a manga like BC, no joke.

Series with much higher numbers of sales do not arrive even in the middle of 700 chapters ....

400 seems to me a much more probable number to be generous.

And it wouldn't be too little.

I can't see these battle series post 2010 surpassing by far the number of chapters of Reborn! But let's wait and see.

On another note: SnS last chapter really was the climax of a trainwreck. The last dish was prepared with an axe.

What are the reasons for the significant dropoffs in volume sales for the top sellers recently (OP, AoT, HxH) ? I don't buy the digital excuse.

People have different tastes and get bored of things many still love, just riding the hype train so they only buy when a new season or movie comes out, prefer binge reading when arcs are done, decide to just wait for sales (no idea if that's a thing in Japan since manga is already pretty cheap), or they actually do switch to digital.

There's probably not a ton of people in those categories (why backlog doesn't spike when arcs end for example) but they would add up.

Hype fades. Those who join the ride for the hype stop once the hype goes away. Some follow the anime and if the anime stops, they stop buying volumes.
Obviously, the other reason is decline in quality.

All of these can be applied to most forms of media engagement like music, movies, shows etc.

I think it's normal, usually the more you go on, the more your sales decrease ....

The last volume of one piece will have 4 million first print, just like in the script.

It seems like Toriko's ending won't be topped for a while, not like I was expecting SnS to do it. HZ will probably do it if its ending this year. Huge fan of Kimetsu and even then I doubt it could do it.

I hope this doesnt become a trend where we starting ending series in GIGA. I rather much prefer having it start & end in the same magazine. I blame Gintama for this "trend".
Interesting. More mangaka commented on SnS's end than Toriko's end.
I'm not sure why the creators for MHA/SnS didn't comment for Toriko when it ended. For SnS it's for obvious reasons but even with MHA, with Barrage, it was serialized when Toriko was bigger than ever. My only explanation is that they're not friends maybe? Shimabu only seemed to be friends with the older generation of mangaka's.

I'm sure if Toriko ended when TPN was serialized then Posuka would've commented, I remember in one of the author comments she was a fan of Toriko.

Did Toriko get a final chapter countdown? I remember with a couple series that didn't get countdowns having a couple other writers congratulate them the issue after it ended.

I would not consider the current status of HxH to be alive. From my point of view, irregular publication is a fate worse than death.
If Togashi had a regular publication, his fate would be death.

As an artist, working at your own pace can be a godsend. And I imagine being able to shower regularly, sleep decent hours, and see your kids often helps as well.

Toriko did end while TPN was already running. Posuka didn't mention it in their comment.
Okay, nvm. That's really weird then.

Seriously. I've looked at chapters in issues of Jump I own from the mid-2000s, and he was really trying to make the Chimera Ant arc work, but my god the man's art looked like he was on his death bed, with all due respect. Let him take some time off, we'll all wait.

No but after Toriko ended, only Furudate was late on congratulating Toriko.

Watch as in the future we get a follow-up to Toriko from Shimabukuro covering the Gourmet Space stuff.

BTW, anyone know what Tomohiro Yagi's been doing? Curious if we might see him attempt another comeback.

He did the oneshot for WSJ called Wasuremono Tantei in November 2018. Since a lot of oneshots needed around 1 year to be serialized, this might make it, who knows.

Anyone got a link to it? I'm curious.
