Koi no Cupid was a more bizarre situation than Hinomaru.
The series sold practically nothing and didn't grow its entire run yet stuck around for a year and a half.
Pretty sure it became a wacky battle shonen by the end. Shame it never got scanned.
Wait, Koi no cupid stuck around for THAT long? I could've sworn it ended in 20 chapters or something.

Huh? It only lasted 20 chapters, September 2013 to February 2014.

you mean spring weapon number 1, it kept surviving by sheer luck as new series instantly flopping kept saving it

they were shilling pretty hard calling it "the phoenix" of jump rising from the ashes
yet it never improved

Yes, was a typo. Already corrected myself.

Now I'm curious. Was SW No1 able to reach a natural conclusion or was it canceled? From what I saw when I was making those charts, it was placing somewhat decently on the ToC around the time it ended.

WSJ Issue 32 TOC

Black Clover (LCP)
Dr STONE
One Piece
Kimetsu no Yaiba
The Promised Neverland
Samurai 8 (CP)
We Never Learn
My Hero Academia
Hinomaru Sumo
Act Age
Spy x Family (CP)
Chainsaw Man (CP)
Tokyo Shinobi Squad
Haikyu!!
Jujutsu Kaisen
Yuuna
Double Taisei
Yui Kamio
Beast Children
Last Saiyuki

Issue 33:
Cover/LCP - My Hero Academia
CP - Haikyu!!, We Never Learn (poll), Mori King (one shot by Hasegawa Tomohiro (Spring Weapon No. 1))
One Piece (absent)
Honestly, Double Taisei is still higher than I was expecting lol. In a week or 2, I could see it relieving Saiyuki as the bottom-ranking series. Beast Children ranking this low also isn't a very good sign. Next week, I'm imagining a similar first ranking that Double Taisei just got this week, expect maybe Beast Children could get just outside of the bottom 5 if it's lucky.

Now I'm curious. Was SW No1 able to reach a natural conclusion or was it canceled? From what I saw when I was making those charts, it was placing somewhat decently on the ToC around the time it ended.
It was definitely cancelled, but the author was alerted with enough time to give it a natural-feeling conclusion. The last few chapters actually tied everything together pretty nicely. In some ways, I actually miss Spring Weapon being in the magazine since its spot in the TOC basically served as the unofficial indicator that anything under it would soon be heading to the chopping block.

I'd definitely say it had one of the luckiest runs in recent WSJ history, second only to Zumo. If it had premiered a little earlier than it did, I still think it would've been axed instead of/along with Samon when WSJ unveiled the 6-series serialization round that included WNL and Dr. Stone. I think it was only around chapter 9 or 10 at the time, and shockingly, they gave it the benefit of the doubt and allowed it to live on.

Can't wait for Hasegawa's new one shot! Hope he'll have another chance to serialize another masterpiece like Koi no Cupid and Spring Weapon.
Honestly, third time could be the charm. The author of E-Robot and Love Rush is finding some success on his third title in Jump+, so maybe he'll have the same luck. WSJ could always use a new comedy in its lineup, even though I'd rather have Numa Shun come back

Look, Beast children may be worse than taisei if you consider the factor that this is the second made it appear in botton 5.

In the end, it was not a good idea to debut 3 manga along with samurai 8, it's a kishimoto manga, it would draw more attention than the others, which ended up hurting. They should have made an isolated debut with him or have only one manga along with him.

I know it's early to talk, but this new lot is proving to be a "failure", it still remains to see TSS or see if the other manga will survive, but by charm it seems that only samurai 8 will survive.

I'm not really a fan of TSS either. It just feels pretty bland overall to me, with nothing making it stand out in any positive or unique way. However, I could see it getting a middle positive for its first ranking before descending to the bottom portion of the TOC over the following few issues, like what has been happening to many of the new series over the past couple years.

Meanwhile (other than Chainsaw Man) TSS is my favorite new manga in the mag since probably The Promised Neverland debuted. It's neat how polarizing the series is.
I love the characters, fast pace, art/panelwork, and world building already. Feels fresh, fun, and effortlessly cool.

I've actually come to like TSS, it's got a set up different from all the usual exorcist battle shonen series, and the main character has electricity powers! Seriously, there's so much you can do with that, and the author seems to take advantage of it rather than have another protagonist with flame based abilities. That being said, in 5-6 chapters nothing's really grabbed me, the powers and fights are cool, but I have a hard time actually getting invested in the story, I could take it or leave it at this point.

Also, I'm not sure if this matters or not, but it seems insanely popular on mangaplus, in five chapters it's had more views that most other newbies on the site, even surpassing Yui Kamio. I wouldn't be surprised if it passes Saiyuki too in the next couple weeks.

TSS still feels like Ne0lation but with superpowers to me.

It's doing that typical flop thing of starting on a sequence of one-off throwaway villains that are only around so it can show off what MC can do. Going by typical progression, it'll probably finally start an arc that actually matters at ch 13-14 but by then it'll be too late. The successful stuff nowadays jump right into something important ch 2 or 3:

MHA started Deku training on ch 2
Black Clover went into the squads entrance exam on ch 2
Kimetsu no Yaiba started Tanjirou training on ch 3
Jujutsu spent ch 2 on Itadori being interrogated, then he started school ch 3

Black Clover, Jujutsu, and Kimetsu all went back to semi-episodic villains and slowed down a bit later but they did something that actually mattered first, they spent a few chapters expanding the setting without needing to shove in some forgettable villain. Where a lot of series fail I think is thinking they need to show off everyone's powers in the first 2 volumes before bothering with anything that'll actually matter plot-wise.

Maybe TSS's pretty powers will make the difference, who knows, but so far is there's no sense of any events mattering, which hasn't been a good sign in the past. It hasn't shown much reason to care about it aside from "Look! Fights!".

The question that everyone wants to hear. Because the Robot x Laserbeam of the has been canceled and Dr. Stone is not ?! If the two of them sold almost the same thing.

I'm not saying that Dr. Stone should be canceled, they both had a point on that Jump. RxL would be the sport manga that Jump wanted so much and that currently is scarce, to make success, with the anime that could explode in sales, but Mama Jump decided to cut it from the magazine, unfairly.

Now it's there with two more sports failing, one after another ... 😪😴

RxL was more than likely cut because an extreme drop in sales and its already faltering popularity occurred at about the midway point of the manga that it never recovered from. People simply didn't want it any more. The reason the similarly selling Stone is still around is that it's a constant. Stays popular, doesn't have big dips in sales, etc.
