It's very easy to avoid talking about the actual topic when a person out of nowhere comes to the thread and says "you don't know how the industry works" when this thread exists for the sole purpose of said industry and magazine.
If you want to talk about the editors being blamed for why Higuma or any series get cancelled, then lets.
First question to you. Where's your proof that the mangaka followed what the editor told him to follow? Did the mangaka out right come out stating he listened too much to the editor and not his ideas?
Just like how RainSpectre
assumes that S8 is completely unfiltered when in reality it could even be the product of multiple editors getting involved and fixing the story elements over the 2 year period prior to serialization. A lot of these arguments are based on assumptions which people are trying to portray as "facts".
Okay, so what if a volume or two shows some unseen character that was gonna be introduced later on? Every series has that. The character Shinji from Bleach was visualized by Kubo years before he actually debuted the character. Things change as story progresses. Chances are if the series survived, it might've gone a completely different route with different characters.
It's been well established AND documented that mangaka have free choice about whether or not they should take the advice of editors.
Quick example. Again going to Kubo because I was a Bleach fanatic at one point and Kubo has been vocal about his experiences. Kubo's first series "Zombie Powder", he publicly stated how he listened to his editor's ideas instead of putting faith into his own ideas and how when it came to Bleach, he stuck to what HE wanted to do. If you're saying that editors can pressurize newbies then they can pressurize returning failed mangaka (who have already had a series axed)even more.
Stop putting the blame on the editor. The main person behind a story is the mangaka. The mangaka has a choice on whether or not to listen to his/her editor's opinions, read fan mail and take ideas from there, study patterns from ongoing or completed series and take elements from those. And most importantly, like someone mentioned, mangaka can ask for a different editor.
