Interesting. Hopefully the first one's a romcom. Since there are 2 new series starting up, does anything else need to end besides Saiyuki in order to make room for the series starting in issue 40?
Yeah...Yozakura's "romcom" status is based purely on a random comment said to me on discord, and it seems that may have been misinformation on my end, though it is definitely a romance. Mitama meanwhile has zero evidence towards it being a gag manga besides the author, which is a really weak connection.
Edit: Got clarification from a friend on the Yozukura thing. The preview specifically doesn't use the official JP term for romcom (ラブコメ), but it does use 愛と笑い. So we'll have to see.
Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I did take your earlier announcement of that at face value. Maybe you can fact check that kind of thing in the future before posting it here, or at least make it clear that it could be inaccurate or unconfirmed? I feel like that has more value than being the first to break "news" that ends up being untrue.
Mitama's goofy looking protagonist does at least give me comedy vibes, but I guess we'll see what its deal is in a couple of weeks.

I've been looking through the jump series list seeing the gaps between a hit romcom (or fanservice) series ending and the next starting and it goes something like
Harenchi Gakuen (no gap)
Arashi Sanpiki (maybe not a big hit? but it did last 3 years and it looks fanservice-y so it's notable at least) -- 5-6 months --
Onna Darake (again, probably not a big hit but it lasted a couple years) -- 6 years? -- (I don't see anything either romcom or fanservice focused that last more than a year between these two)
Stop! Hibari-kun! -- 3-4 months --
Kimagure Orange Road -- 2 years --
Video Girl Ai -- 1 year --
DNA² (was this a hit? it lasted under a year but got an anime and stuff so I figure it was just intended to be short) -- just under 3 years --
I''S -- just under 2 years --
Ichigo 100% -- 8-10 months? --
To Love Ru -- 2 years --
Nisekoi (no gap)
Yuuna (no gap)
WNL
There are chains of flops bridging most of the gaps of course but while romcoms are a WSJ staple of sorts there are some decent sized gaps with nothing big (unless I missed something).

I wonder if we'll get a new hit before Yuuna and WNL end or if there'll be a gap again.
I can't imagine Kamio Yui outlasting those two and being the next generation of romcom hit but who knows, maybe it'll get a surprise late popularity boost (though it seems to be shifting to mainly battle shounen anyway).

Chapter 12 is absolutely the start of when it being darker, besides the random ecchi groping imagination panel. Ch. 14 was when it turned over the genres fully.
Fact, I hope both survive so they can make a collab with each other and have a cover issue with both mc's pointing a gun on each other while their Waifu's on the back make a derp face.
That sudden shift was definitely a massive disappointment for me. What makes matters even worse, the new dark chapters still have the overarching problem of randomly lunging in different directions within the same chapter. There have only been a few chapters for me that have actually felt like they have a natural flow to them. Most feel pretty disjointed from start to finish, with the exception of a couple chapters.

Turning to fodder villains arcs is not going to help either. That is what it should have done in the beginning, but not 22 chapters in. The manga painfully needs something that will open up the world building and plot.
What it needs to do is figure out what people want to see, it's went through so many different styles in its run so far that's it'd be hard to judge what the readers want more of.
I kind of hope it survives partly to see what it actually decides to stick with in the long term, but also since I'm curious what an anime would do with this utter mess of a beginning. I don't think it will unless every new series is a completely hopeless flop but it'd be interesting to see what an attempt at an adaptation would be like.
Reading the Saiyuki's final chapter, seems the mangaka planned to introduce a timeskip at some point, such a shame. Maybe the manga wouldn't have struggled if a bit earlier. RIP.

I think its hard to say if it was going to be a time skip or if they had planned it so long that we wouldda seen the characters grow naturally.
Sad ending.
Did like the peak at the prelude to the final fight though.

Late on the ending to Higuma. Will miss it, loved what they did with it as it would have probably been no way to summarize how the manga would have ended with the whole idea of changing up the hell warden system teased.
Sad to see Saiyuki go, but as far as axes go, it could have been worse, it actually felt like a complete (more or less) story. There were clearly a lot of plans that never got to be really explored, which is just a shame. I feel like all the elements were there for an amazing story, had the structure and pacing been different at the start this could have been something special, but I guess that could be said for a lot of axed series.
