Nisekoi is an interesting case study in how it can be viewed as a sort of culmination for romcoms as a genre up until that point. So many of the ideas, concepts and tropes of prior works were incorporated in in such a way to where they felt equal parts accessible to newer readers and interesting enough that they wanted an answer to the central mystery and exploration of the characters. Komi also did an impressive job keeping readers in the dark as to who would win, while in retrospect it was obviously going to be Chitoge, Onodera I'd argue was a successful teasing of an other choice.

The issue, of course, is that the series ended up struggling under the weight of a narrative which Komi had no idea what to really do with, and that ended up compromising itself with random additions to the cast (most infamously Haru) and increasingly nonsensical elaborations on the story (having 2/3s of the harem being Raku's forgotten childhood friends, for example). Not to mention the series got so centered around the romance that the ending basically fucked one of its main characters over in a way rather cruel to her fans. It's a symbol of that "everything and kitchen sink" mentality, for better and worse.

You can argue that Nisekoi has consequently influenced a number of manga to try and actively avoid a lot of its pitfalls. If you look at WNL, the series closest to Nisekoi in style and tone, it's faster and more tightly paced, has a story not built on an increasingly nonsensical mystery, and has safely avoided random add-ons for the hell of it narratively. It's not a masterpiece, but I think it speaks to the influence and legacy Nisekoi has had that its successor is more or less averting many of its failings.

Made it pretty damn successful to have killed it.
Harem is more or less always successful. Girls Komi introduced were likeable. art was likeable and initial plot was decent so not that much of a wonder it was a hit. Still first chapters before going full harem mood are >>>> latter in my option. Yes, it was huge success as harem but it isnt example of great romance manga.

Romcom harem always have smaller numbers than other genres and more niche. Generally they don't even hit 200k. Nisekoi is an outlier like other are as well.

And romcom harem isn't focused on romance, otherwise it wouldn't be a romcom harem in first place. lol The focus of those are mostly on comedy.. and even if it's more on romance like Gotoubun for example, nothing will be decided until the last chapters. It's the template of Ranma 1/2 that is used on romcom harem to this day as it was the one who basically created and influenced it's genre.

I liked Yozakura's first chapter. I think it can become a hit if the author plays his cards right. The only thing that bothered me was how over the top the big bro's obsession with the girl was. Hopefully he chills a little bit in the next few chapters

This is hard to guess because part of the answer to this question is always "when Togashi feels like it." Even if a bunch of series get axed, it won't matter much if he's not ready to draw 10 chapters yet.

If the Togashi stars do align, though, there's like... 4 to 6 manga that might conclude / get axed by the end of this year? So it's not like HxH will have a shortage of opportunities to come back.

My guess is about the beginning of 2020. And that we won't see more series axes until October at the earliest.
It's weird how long this HxH hiatus was even though back in December 2018, Togashi said he already completed the storyboards for the next 10 chapters. Maybe he is preparing for a 20 week serialization this time. There are only 10 chapters left until HxH reaches chapter 400 so maybe he doesn't want to go back to hiatus right at that milestone.

Well now we just have to pray Yozakura will not turn into goddamn harem. That what killed nisekoi
Doesn’t seem like Harem is what it’s going for. MC and Love interest are already married. Doubt her sisters would try and take him from her, based on the first chapter. And even if the MC and the Girk didn’t already get together, it’s already way too obvious that the MC would end up with her by the end

Double Taisei, David-kun and Dr. Stone... wonder if that is a time thing, i.e. the mangaka got in deadline trouble and just reused old art, or whether the editor mandated that because "That previous art work is plenty enough, just use that and put the extra time into the next chapter instead".

Nisekoi made the new wave of romcom so it make sense that new mangakas gonna take inspiration of it

Just like bc for naruto

Jujutsu kaisen for bleach

Inspiration matters to everything, not only for manga

Btw no way it gonna turn into a harem, that would be too foul for already being married

Jump+ has axed the 2 manga in the same day: a bizarre manga The Little Prince after 34 chapters and gag manga Nani ga Nyan Demo Isoro after low viewed 40 chapters (2 per week, so 20 weeks)

Bone Collection, for whoever who wants to read it.
That 'lots-of-weapons' thing reminded me of Higuma.
This art does not work for ecchi.

Not sure about Yozakura Family, it was a fun chapter but it feels like it's missing something, like as a oneshot it's great but it didn't really establish a reason to read ch 2 onwards.

Beast Children does indeed feel like it's starting up a final arc, it's always nice to see an author try their best to wrap their series up despite cancellation. Samurai 8 on the other hand feels like it only just finished ch 1 and that the content so far could've been done way more efficiently. As if Kishi's not even trying to have a good intro, instead just dumping in whatever he doesn't want to bother explaining later on.

Double Taisei weirdly was great this week until it went back to Shogi at the end, after this chapter I'm convinced that it could've been a great manga had it been about rivals competing over all sorts of random games rather than Shogi, a game that's not very exciting in the first place and that the writer doesn't even seem to be enthusiastic for.

From the glance Bone Collector seems meh. I think the core concept of the bone things and all is nice, but that is pretty much it. Imo, it would need a bit of a reboot.

Now that's something I'd be interested to see in WSJ, a 'sports' series where instead of being devoted entirely to one sport it does a yugioh style King of Games thing where widely skilled people compete through lots of different games and activities.

Hard to sustain sadly. There is a reason why even Yugioh dropped all of the games except for the Duel Monsters post Bakura Monster World Arc.

Honestly, can you stop using the term "axe" excessively? Not every manga ended due to publisher axing. Maybe the authors end it on their own. Maybe they got sick. Maybe they are just tired of doing a dead-end job.

Ehhhhhh Man☆Gataro manga getting cancelled is just a part of his process by now. Turning into a comic about kickstarter backers for a couple months didn’t really help it.
Still, Le Petit Prince being 5 volumes is good for me, as the volumes were pricey as heck
