they said they rejected Kanata because he was introvert unlike the other Jump mc
but Takuan is a lazy loner and not positive and optimistic like other Jump mc and his series still got accepted
Yeah. I don't think an introverted MC was the main reason why Weekly Shonen Jump editors totally rejected Kanata no Astra.

It is more likely there other reasons they thought it woukd fail in WSJ.

PS: Are not introverted MC pretty common in Shonen?

That makes no sense from Shueisha to reject a veteran work permanently without even redoing it to have a MC that is more optimistic.

I would have said EIC hated it, but it was approved for Jump+, so I am confused.

The MC can easily be changed to be resubmitted, but it being a "project reject" with no chance of being accepted to me sounds like the entire premise itself was rejected. Not sure why they'd reject it so hardline from a successful creator though considering they run basically the same exorcist manga with slight changes multiple times a year.

Maybe they just really were not interested in sci-fi or space travel at the time for whatever reason? Though Gintama was doing building up to big space adventure stuff at the time it was probably submitted and St&rs ran a couple years before and wasn't a complete flop so that'd be weird.

Jump was EXTREMELY patient with St&rs back then. It freaking lasted longer than Kagami no Kuni no Harisgawa despite being a Bottom 1 for God knows how many issues, horrible sales and Harisugawa selling decent on top of it. So I don't think the space premise is at fault here.

Wasn't there talk of Harisugawa ending by choice though? It had exhausted its premise already and Yasuhiro's not exactly a stranger to doing that.

It does not really matter why Harisugawa ended here. The fact St&rs stayed alive at that point instead of ending with it together is an unnecessary leap of faith from Shueisha. A bit surprising.

Well, we do have confirmation that series they find interesting/different gets more chances. I can see St&rs falling under that umbrella. 5 volumes was maybe a bit too long but Spring Weapon got longer despite clearly not being popular.

Seeing yozakura's color page, I began to compare him to that movie Still the Parents by Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.

where the protagonist has to earn the trust of his bride's father. But in the case of manga is the older brother.

I think you mean "Meet the Parents/Meet the Fockers" movie duo here?

It's weird seeing established mangaka getting rejected, but in the case of Chainsawman, the "big wig" of the editorial department literally told Fujimoto to do whatever he wanted.

I guess what he wanted lined up with what they wanted.

1) Great way to establish that this is a gag manga and the MC's personality at once
2) I like that a panel is in the double spread
3) I actually don't mind the art, hm. Hoping the rest of the chapter will be funny. This got a chuckle from me which is a good thing.

Mitama doesn't seem like a full gag from Chapter 1. Not really impressed, very generic in all aspects and the concept is extremely uninteresting. It doesn't really grab you to read Chapter 2.

Mitama was an underwhelming read, and on the more personal criteria, it wasn't funny to me. Meh. Wonder what will be done with this concept though, so I'll give a few more tries.

Mitama was mildly amusing to me, but I feel like it really isn't a good basis for a series. Basically every joke of the premise was milked in Chapter 1, and I really don't see how it could expand itself without drifting away from its original point too quickly.

Double Taisei could have been a really nice gag manga if the mangaka took that route. Laughed at some panels.
