Curious, has anyone read Samon-kun wa Summoner? Looking for recommendations, heard it's a gag manga?
Yes, it's a gag manga and it's amazing, it does a great job of using an unlikable protagonist for comedy. It was short lived but Samon Shousuke became one of my favorite Jump protagonists. Numa Shun has a great sense for comedy and I'm still waiting for him to come back with a new series.

It is known for quite a while that S8 isn't doing so hot, at least at the moment. I would be shocked if this ends before the the end of 2020. And even then, they could get an anime offer after a year because Kishimoto.
Yeah, but I thought Jump would be willing to hide S8 flop until the volume releases. Not that I'm throwing baits for S8 fans, I'm just shocked Jump has 'given up' on it

Alright, a couple of things (or more);

2. Soma was super popular and very well loved by a huge part of the community. It was "cool", had great art and was a great unorthodox battle manga that sold incredibly well. As time went on though, the love the community had changed into something you'd see in a toxic relationship. But doesn't change the fact that for the first 2-3 years, people loved the shit outta it. I haven't read the series past the first few chapters but I remember the reactions and responses it got on forums.

4. S8 position is irrelevant until we see how much it sells.
On point 2: Even though I'm not an ecchi fan, I really liked the early years of Souma, while absolutely hated it past the Central Arc.
On point 4: Positions are relevant, it means at least Jump has given up on promoting him.

Hina Change has a strange schedule right now.

Per the chapter notice, September 19 (next scheduled chapter for Hina on MangaPlus) will be a "debut oneshot" (whatever that means), the week after an extra chapter (probably a short one like Moon Land and Curtain), then goes weekly for 3 straight chapters. It is a biweekly manga usually. Kinda messy.

Oh! Seems the mangaka reused some of the Lost Summer Memory oneshot designs for Hina Change (Ren especially, Hina is tweaked but similar to the girl on the small pic with logo in your post etc)

I also think it’s great! Probably the most devastating axe in recent years, and Numa Shun is one of Jump’s more promising gag artists personally. It starts off slow, but the gags really get into their groove 2-3 volumes in. It even has some rather interesting battle arcs later on too.

Literally gave it Lead Color Page just 5 issues ago and CPs in Issues 32, 30.
WSJ has been doing their part in promoting the series before any indication of sales.

Low placements aren't a good sign, absolutely. But they don't tell the whole story. WSJ might be waiting for sales figures before they push it anymore.

I read it recently, so I could try to state an opinion on it.
It can be a nice comedy if you aren't too harsh. Art style is original, it fits well with the gags and some of them are really funny.
Don't expect anything of the characters, it's a gag manga. I was disappointed by that but, as I could never says that (for example) Bobobo's characters are well-developed, I shouldn't have waited anything here.

tl;dr : gags are funs but at the end of the day, the manga feel pretty...empty, if you like those characters too much and wait for them to evolve in a way or another.

It's only my point of view tho. The best is always to give it a try and see by yourself. (Also, if you want gags manga, Bobobo is definitely the funniest, craziest and absurd I ever read)

Tbh, they doesn't had many promising gag artist.
Nakama (he is like 29 years old and wrote Isobee, he had a good future)and Numa(also Kuroki and Spring weapon's author) are the best rookies
Asou is more a established name(although he will come back) , Retsu is with the Haikyuu spin-off,I doubt matsui is going to do something like the begining of Assclass and koiji oishi have health problem.

Do you think Kimetsu once s2 comes will surpass MHA on a per volume basis (in 1 month)?

What? No.
Kimetsu's growth is incredible but it's not gonna surpass MHA or TPN.

Cool.

I guess i do have a question though if anybody knows but does Mangaplus aid in a series' overall ranking? Like, the Magazine Ranking is one thing, but does Shueisha (Being as Mangaplus is through them, not viz) take into consideration the amount of hits a series has on its app?

I hold that all these guys would be better on Jump+.

The issue with a lot of gag manga is that they have to compete with plot based series on a constant basis, which has become more difficult as time has passed on due to their inherently episodic nature and lack of strong online discussion. I've heard from a friend who followed the series that Samon went into battle arcs later into its run, and apparently they didn't turn out so well because the cast and creator weren't suited for the shift.

Jump+, meanwhile, is pretty much built up well for casual reading due to being free, online and having different series release on different days, and that I think allows for gag authors to get a lot more ground. Something like Interrogation Princess we can see from Shoseki probably doesn't have the sales needed to justify keeping it in the main Jump magazine, but it's huge on Jump+ in terms of views, and I think that's because gag, as a genre, is much more suited for the casual experience.

That's my two cents, anyway.

As the magazine is weekly and every issue has a TOC, a new TOC comes out every week

I doubt it has any influence in the TOC overall.
BTW, the TOC isn't a raw popularity ranking.

Nope. One person can view a series 1000 times and propel it ahead of another. It would not be an accurate way to understand what is popular and what isn't.

Changing the subject, since Taisei, Beast and Shinobi are basically all confirmed axed with those Shoseki stats (no coming back from selling worse than Yui Kamio, methinks), any thoughts on them as works of fiction?
