....What was revolutionary about Shippuden?
Yeh I was a bit too hyped, I just love naruto. Naruto is revolutionary, but shippuden
Btw this is a pretty good resource for finding past ToC's. For WSJ it has it from 1999-2016

This archive is great because it accounts for CP/LCP/cover when providing the rankings. Unfortunately its from 1999-2016.

Shaman King has the kanzeban editions & the prequel/sequels which means it has a lot more # of volumes. It has 53 million copies in print and copies in print =/= copies sold. For example, Its like if you look at Kimetsu's copies in print of 10 million it comes out to 625k copies per volume and Kimetsu doesnt even sell that much.

It's totally accurate.

This was from a one shot that came out 2 years ago for the 20th anniversary of one piece depicting Shimabu & Oda's relationship. Awesome stuff

Anyway you probably read the ranking wrong as it doesn't tell us which series got CP/LCP/covers that issue which dont count for the ranking.
Damn, real bros huh. What was oda's last comment to shinobu when his first manga & toriko ended?

I'm not casting a vote in this poll just because Mission: Yozakura Family, which I'm enjoying a lot, is the only Jump romcom series I'm really familiar with. Wouldn't be fair.

Are you guys still talking about how inaccurate the TOC can be? Nobody said it would be 100% accurate and it will never be, it is a demonstration of what's going on. What really matters in the TOC is the bottom, that we know for sure that they are going to be cancelled if stay there, from there and above it is actually a mix that may or may not show something.

Finally, words of wisdom! XD

Assuming S8 got an anime, do you guys think they would go for the long running format again, like with Naruto, because it’s a Kishimoto series. Or would they go with the season format that MHA and Kimetsu are doing

That would depend on if Shueisha thought it would be best or no.

It's possible that Samurai 8 doesn't even warrant more than one season for it to matter (Kishimoto did say he planned for 10 volumes, so if that ends up being the case, it wouldn't be a long-running anime)

If it is too early to discuss whether it is going to be cancelled or not, it is way too early to talk about anime. Gotta wait to answer this question 2 years from now, if the Samurai 8 is in the magazine there.

Wordwide:

ONE PIECE - 450m
Dragon Ball - 250m
NARUTO - 250m
Slam Dunk - 170m

Per volume both One Piece and Slam Dunk outsold DB btw, Slam Dunk also had the highest first print number for WSJ before One Piece took it
That doesn't add up? Unless I'm doing something wrong.

One piece 454,000,000/93 = 4,838,706

DB 250,000,000/42 = 5,952,380

SD 170,000,000/31 = 5,483,870

I’m only speaking in Hypotheticals, since Naruto was such a huge success as a long runner. I’m aware that it’s a bit too early to discuss an actual anime from it

Didn’t somebody debunk the whole 10 volume thing as a mistranslation

In Japan, One Piece and Slam Dunk slightly better on a per volume basis than DB but overall NO

What he said was that he had planned it for 10 volumes but also mentioned that he only thought naruto would go 15 volumes and that if s8 was successfull it would probably go beyond 10 volumes.

Oh, but how much did one piece sell in just japan, I can't find it

He didn't say that part about it being successful either, he just said "let's say it'll be 10 volumes" but pointed out how he thought naruto would be shorter too. And he said in another interview it won't be as long as naruto.

How do we account for special editions like the Slam Dunk re-release which shortened the series from 31 volumes to 20 or the rerelease of Dragon Ball in color?

Last number I saw was 388 mil off 93 volumes = 4.17 mil per

DB is 160 mil off 42 vol = 3.81 mil per

SD is 126 mil off 31 vol = 4.06 mil per

This is japan only ofcourse

The series that got the cover isn't ALWAYS first, though.
Really? Well damn. Perhaps the 8 week rule wasnt relevant then.

Damn, real bros huh. What was oda's last comment to shinobu when his first manga & toriko ended?
Takeshi got axed in the main magazine due to the sex scandal that Shimabu had but it had its true ending in Super Jump. Im not sure what Oda said for that. For Toriko ending, Oda did congratulate him:

He gave a sendoff in the One Piece chapter like he did with Naruto ending but a lot more subtle.

I think they may do it as a long runner b/c its a Kishi series.
