I mean naruto was popular enough to survive 86 straight filler episodes at one point, BC would get canned 10 straight fillers in and its manga sales would crater to cancellation, it needed a well done seasonal that could have brought in a bunch of new fans, handing it to studio clown who is understaffed was a huge mistake
For Black Clover, Studio Pierrot was the one that went to Jump with the anime offer. They even made a full PV on their first meeting with Jump before anything was set in stone.
Shueisha isn't even part of its production committee.

While I do think the seasonal format would definitely have worked better for Black Clover, I believe things have gotten better from a production standpoint. There’s a quality episode every so often now.
Real shame about the terrible first impression, though. Black Clover is really fun.
Honestly the problem with the beginning of the Black Clover anime wasn't bad production, it was that dumb decision to add a lot of filler before even getting to the good parts of the manga. First impressions matter.
All in all, seasonal doesn't really equal success. TPN and MHA didn't grow that much with their animes at first. They were just huge even before it. KnY's boost is ridiculous and definitely not the norm. Specially for long-running manga, long-running anime is a safer option. You can never know when you won't be able to get a timeslot for the next season. Sure, MHA can get away with it because it's absurdly successful, but whose to say a seasonal Black Clover anime would have made it past Season 3? There's no way to know.
Long running contract is different from putting out unnecessary fillers. Their contract states the type of format they go for. The decision to choose to go with fillers or take a break depends on the studio.
Gintama is a long running anime that stopped in between and came back, several times whereas with Bleach/Naruto, they kept at it with fillers and fillers.
So if a studio went with fillers, then yeah they were "milking" it.
Taking a break don't depend on the studio, neither is fillers. All of those things are part of pre-production planning after all and obviously the companies funding are involved in that aspect.

The problem is that it immediately went into 2 fillers eps after adapting the first chapter, which was already offputting due to the odd voice acting from Asta. The first 3-4 episodes of an anime are incredibly important.

why it wasnt seasonal is cuz black clover is & espcially was hella generic, even with sakuga animation it wouldnt be worth animating it with only high quality. so it had to go past with average animation. it was always like, ''bro, read the manga.. its way more interesting''.
imagine going seasonal, so like 25 episodes, till ch 55-56. stopped on the least interesting arcs, (before the underwater temple arc). waiting 1 year for another season, people would complain and bash the franchise to oblivion. views and hype would drop, also cuz other anime would drop that people gonna appreciate more.
it is only for the better that pierrot took it, we should thank the studio for black clover and milking burrito

KnY boost only seems big because it started selling next to nothing when it started if you look at the actual numbers its trailing behind a lot of titles.
Kishimoto pretty much named Horikoshi his sucessor and he's been interview with Oda and Kubo since his title is an international success like they were over a decade ago. Nakano was the one who wanted BC to be the next Naruto hence where that narrative spun from.

Well Kimetsu's first volume didn't even make the top 50 in Its first week and most grew after volume 3. Still in terms of actual growth rate it eclipses everything outside OPs Strong World boost from a decade ago.

Lol, no. You have no idea what you're talking about.
It works when its a seasonal anime when you can plan what you want to adapt and if fillers are required. It works when the studio has a full arc to animate and they can plan around it. For long running anime, its impossible for the studio to predict the pace of the original work by the mangaka.
Quite literally the biggest example of this is Bleach which had an entire filler arc slapped right in the middle of the fake Karakura arc with Aizen's fight and then 3 fillers right before the Urahara x Isshin, Yourichi fight and 2 fillers right after just before Ichigo fought Aizen.
You're telling me that studio and everyone involved sat down before planning and went"Oh, you know what would be fun? How about if we ruin the final fight that the entire series has been building up to with 5 randomly placed fillers right in the middle of the most important one on one battles with Aizen!"
That's not "pre-production planning". That's a studio winging it because they were not able to predict the pace of Kubo and his chapters.
Even with Naruto, they had multiple filler arcs in between the final war. Again, not "pre-production planning". Just a studio winging it because they could not predict the pace of the story in the original material.
One Piece is another example but instead of going with fillers, they decided to do the tedious nonsense of animating one chapter per episode or slightly more. Studios cannot plan for that and its DEFINITELY not pre-production planning.

But the way it works is that they keep getting hired to do more episodes, right? So Pierrot might choose where to place filler and whether to even do that or go the One Piece route, but if the contract says they have to keep putting out one episode every week even if they're extremely close to the manga, then it's not really just their decision. At the very least they can't just take a break of their own volition.

If we're talking about the anime boost, Kimetsu was actually selling the same as BC before their respective anime. Its pre-anime peak is 157k, hardly next to nothing.
