I do like how the harem manga is almost certain to overtake 2 of the most hyped manga/anime in the west nowadays, 1 with not enough volume to come out higher, and the other with a delayed volume that probably cemented its position out of the top 5, even though it will have a new season airing soon

also the fact that the harem manga is most likely will be living up to its namesake.
Oh boy...the shitposting will be immense.

Since you bring them up, is there a chance SnK comes out on top of MHA this year since MHA has one less volume than normal?

@ChocoBar9 Hello
So, I might have created an account just to say this but, here is what we can say about Japan manga sales for the 2019 oricon year, and especially about the competition between Kingdom, Neverland and Kimetsu no Yaiba:

NB: I was too lazy to add the links to the Shoseki rankings, I decided it wasn't important since they are easily available
NB2: To prove my point, I always used the highest possible estimation for Kingdom and Neverland. Because I almost never had to make estimations for Kimetsu no Yaiba, that means that the gap between it and the other two is as big as it could be.

Total: 113,535
July 1 to August 4 Oricon Sales Data:
Kimetsu no Yaiba: 1393,353
Kingdom: 629,612
Neverland: 516,710
August 5 to August 11:
Kimetsu no Yaiba: 236,655
Kingdom: 101,134
Neverland: 270,662

August 12 to August 18:
Kimetsu no Yaiba: 351,921
Kingdom: 156,140
Neverland: 173,081

August 19 to August 25:
Kimetsu no Yaiba: 303,929
Kingdom: 673,719
Neverland: 101,207

August 26 to September 1:
Kimetsu no Yaiba: 335,990
Kingdom: 207,464
Neverland: 83,119

I’m stopping there, because starting with the following week, Neverland falls out of the top Noeru gives and I’m too lazy to do any more Shoseki estimations. But here are the numbers for Kimetsu and Kingdom:
https://twitter.com/kiwbvi/status/1172127246968131584

Kimetsu no Yaiba: 360,748
Kingdom: 133,028
Neverland<76,857
https://twitter.com/kiwbvi/status/1174588816969097216

Kimetsu no Yaiba: 430,905
Kingdom: 104,029
Neverland<62,831

Kimetsu no Yaiba Estimation as of September 1st: 5,060,775
Kingdom Estimation as of September 1st: 6,998,608
Neverland Estimation as of September 1st: 6,467,958

There are 11 weeks left between September 1st and the end of the Oricon year. That means Kimetsu needs to sell on average 176,139 volumes more per week than Kingdom to reach it (6,998,608-5,060,775=1,937,533 // 1,937,533/11=176,139). And so far, it's been selling much more than that.

TL;DR Kimetsu ending the year as #2 isn't a crazy prediction

While there is a lot of things I could say here, I'll just say that the Samurai 8 x World Trigger comparison isn't me at all. It was something JP twitter was doing.

Anyway, here's something interesting I found, a full list of Vol 1 sales for every series from Tokyo Wonder Boys through to I'm From Japan.

RxL being in the Top 3 sure is something.

What manga was the one that apparently sold 0 units?

Was just reading the Jump thread on 5ch, it is a mess with countless fake TOC, including Act-Age getting a Cover with Special Announcement, Samurai 8 having a TOC with it being at the top 2, Hidarikiki no Eren getting a CP in the Issue 45 etc. A true popcorn entertainment.

On another note, I'm surprised no one has noted that TSS just gave a giant cancellation flag in the latest chapter, skipping through all the rounds of the tournament arc to get to the last one.

Not a surprise (users on 5ch and Jump Matome seemed to hate the series from what I can tell), but still noteworthy.

So you're going to die with the proclamation that after the anime ends Kimetsu us going to sell exactly the same amount every week until the end of November in between another volume of Kingdom scheduled to release before the period ends which sells more in one week per volume that Kimetsusells in two and a half months? And lets forget the fact tgat 40% of your info is based entirely on guesstimation not actual cold hard data. A'ight.

I'm not sure that TSS fast forwarding through the tournament is a red flag in the same way that Beast Children skipping to the rival showdown was.

The tournament in TSS isn't an essential part of Jin's arc (like facing the Beast's son is for Sakura), or even the most important part of this specific mission. All the contestants in the tournament besides Jin's final opponent were obvious fodder. It wasn't ever presented as a traditional tournament in the first place, and I feel like it was meant to be fast forwarded through.

I don't think that TSS's chance of survival right now are exactly incredible, but the tournament thing in particular doesn't strike me as an ill omen yet.

Damn, Stealth Symphony did that poorly even with Narita's fame as an author? That's...really surprising, in all honesty.

Also, holy shit, those sales for Invade You and Seiji Tanaka are horrendous. Makes you question why they were even allowed to be launched to begin with.

A'ight.
I obviously don't expect Kimetsu to keep selling that well without an anime. However, Kimetsu (and Neverland) still has a volume scheduled (next week I believe) while Kingdom's next volume won't be released until mid-november, as Young Jump releases usually do, most likely on the 19th which is after the end of the period.

Also, the best selling Kingdom volume in a week is volume 55 which sold 573,264 copies in 7 days (including pre-orders). Kimetsu sold that in two weeks. That's not two and a half months.

Finally, while the Shoseki rankings don't allow us to have exact data, they still give a range, and that range is not based on guesstimations, as you say. I used the highest possible number for both Kingdom and The Promised Neverland (by considering that, for example, every volume of a manga between n°100 and n°200 sold exactly as much as n°100. This is cold hard data: those volumes have sold between the estimation for #200 and the estimation for #100. Me using the higher range gives an advantage to Kingdom and Neverland). On the other hand, whenever I had to use Shoseki for Kimetsu, I used the lower estimation.

The gap that I find is the largest it could possibly be, reality is that Kimetsu is likely closer to Kingdom than what I wrote. Yet, even with all that, Kimetsu still appears to be closing on the podium

Some of these numbers are actually impressive considering how "unpopular" these mangas looked at the time, specially cases like Lady Justice, UBS, Amalgam and Takuan. Sometimes Jump's way of putting too much weight on readers surveys/opinion really kill some stuff that would totally survive on many other magazines or even on Plus and maybe grow with time.

Well, that was before the utter madness that was the final conclusion of the Big 3 Era in 2016, when the floor dropped out from under Jump with Nisekoi, AssClass, Kochikame, Bleach and Toriko all ending in quick succession. It's likely that, had it been in another context, some of these series might've been able to survive.
