Hey, haven't check this for 3 days, lets see what been going on- 30 new pages and atleast half is about S8. :twitch
Yep, didn't miss anything this last days. Atleast the 1k page count will be possible.

A question, given that Act-Age and SPYxFamily were announced by VIZ, is there still a possibility that Chainsaw will be announced too the remaining of this NYCC or they already made all its announcements?

I don't think there's been a case of this to really know but they might keep it running if it's big enough outside Japan although I assume move it to Jump+ so a series not popular in Japan wouldn't be wasting space just because it is outside Japan. Considering it hasn't even cracked 500K Views on Manga+ yet (behind Jujutsu which you'll see people bring up how unpopular it is outside Japan) I don't think Samurai 8 will be a first in this regard though.
Jujutsu kaisen at ch 76 has 515k views
Samurai 8 at ch 20 is 450k views don't think that's so bad.
Even actage has around 382k views at ch 83

I think aside from a Netflix's Castlvania panel Viz has nothing left for NYCC.

exactly, it's not so bad but not super amazing that it's worth saving based on outside Japan popularity.

Well, I was talking about print more than sales. It won't reach sales but it can most definitely reach print of 1 million by then. Same as AC.
Well, if it is prints then that's something it has good chances to reach before Vol.3

@Mael the strongest About manga industry being profitable - that depends on who you look at:
A mangaka with a 100k series makes quite some cash, but somebody with 2k, eh, not so much. Assistants have often real hard work, especially in weekly series and their pay isn't that great either. Editors got a secure payment due their position whereas producers like Toei for example secure merchandise rights to series they animate so that's where they make their money, Toei still produces WT merchandise to this day because it sells and makes a profit. Bookstores ofc would want successful and varied mangas in their store so that they get a lot of customers. If you got only unpopular and boring mangas, nobody gonna buy them. And then there would be the printing industries who make the mangas as well as paper making industry who sells their paper to the printing one so that they can make mangas.
I guess without Mangas a whole lot of people would be out of a job or in a whole different one.

Don't use M+ views as a meter with series that have scans 2 days before its official release. If JJK and S8 didn't have them I can assure you numbers would be way different.

Act-Age's situation regarding views is basically explained in acting not being appealing to a western audience looking for action and fight series.

The question is how much of those 382k , 515k or 450k would buy a volume.
Is the same as the magazine, that's why kochikame or jaguar volume didn' have the sales of the 00s manga hits.

I dunno about that first one because One Piece, HeroAca, and Yaiba all have scans before the official release as well, and those all have over a million views. Sure, one can say that they had more time to accumulate views, but the fact remains the same. Hell, One Piece has 3.6 million views on Manga+. Spy x Family, which has 1.7 million views and no Edited Mangas before release, isn’t even in its solar system and that’s #2.

i dont think thats the case ''not appealing''.. espcially how open minded people and even kids nowadays are with series. you have literaly kids saying ''Yo Read this act-age!! its fire bro, its heat gas'' blabla other twitter slangs, thats receivement is something you never would expect from an acting manga. it just hasnt an anime yet or is annouced for it

Also, regarding Mangaplus, Samurai 8 has been since the very chapter 1, while both Jujutsu and Act-age have had a hole of like 40 chapters.

Does the sales only matter for Japan and not worldwide for let's say an manga is not well received in Japan but its selling well worldwide minus japan so will that series be allowed to continue or will that be axed soon after recovering the expenses incurred?

These views don't necessarily will translate in sales.

In general, manga sells a lot more in Japan than outside.

There are mangas considered pretty succesful outside Japan, because it have "good sales" for the editorial (who publish the manga outside Japan). However, these "good sales" would be considered pretty small in Japan.

That's why Japan care mainly about Japanese audience.

I really, really like Dosanko Gyaru is Mega Cute, glad it's scanlated! I think Jump+ has another potential OK seller in this one.

I think I could put a better example with Naruto, an extremely popular manga outside Japan.

Roundup of Newly Revealed Print Counts for Manga, Light Novel Series (March - May 2018)

Naruto: 140 millions of copies only in Japan, while 95 millions of copies outside Japan (between 35 countries).

The reason Manga+ views were brought up was they asked if it would be possible for it to survive on popularity in the west even if it wasn't popular in Japan and I was showing it really isn't that popular in the west either so no one was saying it would sell well because of those numbers, just that it's not doing amazingly well enough to survive based purely on the west.

New topic for you all. how would shonenjump looked like if the big 3 didnt exist?

Inherently weak question because the Big 3 layered the modern foundation for Jump from beginning to end. There wouldn't be the Jump of our current understanding without them.

So, the big question for everyone, what do you think is the reason(s) for Samurai 8 underpreforming?

One Piece's views are big basically because it's One Piece. Even if that doesn't seem enough of a reason for you, casual readers influenced by big people inside the community tend to read it officially or don't care that much about when it's out and read it whenever they remember about it. We could spend a whole day looking for reasons and every single one of them would be valid, so let's sum it up as what it is: It's One Piece.

My Hero Academia's views are actually really low. It actually doesn't get more than 30-40k views per chapter, which is really low considering how big the popularity of the series is. The fact that it has so many views right now is that when M+ launched, every single series received huge boosts of views. Heck, MHA was the most viewed series in the app for a long time until it was surpassed by One Piece. Since then, it does as every other single series with scans: poorly.

Kimetsu no Yaiba reached 1 million like 2 days ago. In fact, around 2 weeks ago it still was around 700k views. Anime boost has made it get around 100k views per week for 2 weeks +/-, but that's all. Also, Kimetsu scans are also pretty recent, and for casual fans that got used to reading it on the app, it's like if they didn't actually exist. Also, sometimes they have even been irregular with releases, so that doesn't help creating much of an effect on the series.

I'll say it again: Using views in M+ as a meter for series' popularity outside of Japan when a huge proportion of those views are directed to scans doesn't give exact results. Chainsaw Man, Black Clover or Haikyu!! are perfect examples of not having competent views and still being some of the most famous series in the western community. And this is all guessing, but if One Piece or MHA didn't have scans, I'm sure both would have double the views they have right now.

What I want to say is that it's not a good meter for series with scans, but series without them can be actually measured and we can kind of estimate if the series is doing good or not, because the whole audience that's interested on the series is reading it through that platform.

i dont think thats the case ''not appealing''.. espcially how open minded people and even kids nowadays are with series. you have literaly kids saying ''Yo Read this act-age!! its fire bro, its heat gas'' blabla other twitter slangs, thats receivement is something you never would expect from an acting manga. it just hasnt an anime yet or is annouced for it
Even if there's a big fanbase for Act-Age, its size is not even close to other series right now. It will grow, but doing no more than 15k views every single week means series is not as popular as others, since that's the same amount of views Tokyo Shinobi Squad gets.

I think Naruto is the record holder for sales outside Japan. Naruto defeated One Piece abroad.
One Piece numbers: 380 million in Japan, 70 million abroad.
I don't know Dragon Ball numbers outside Japan.

So, the big question for everyone, what do you think is the reason(s) for Samurai 8 underpreforming?
it was over hyped. I think it's a fine series and enjoy reading it week to week and would be kinda sad if it got axed but that's it. Obviously since Kishimoto people's expectations were going to be higher than some newbie or someone with a few axed series but Shueisha was treating it like the greatest thing to grace the planet so of course a series that's just fine will seem disappointing in comparison.
