And things had to go differently because ........?
Because this is Kishimoto. And because they sent out over 2 million goddamn flyers advertising the series.

How is this difficult to understand.

2.5d Vol 1 did better in just 3 days (between 8 and 9k) than Kamio Yui Vol1/Vol2 did in 5-6 days, and not to mention David, Jimoto, Saiyuki, Tokyo, Beast, Taisei, Higuma, ne0lation...

Because this is one of the most awaited manga in a long time, written by one of the most relevant mangaka and even got a teaser before being released, as one user pointed out pages ago, in a industry were this kind of stuff almost never happens.
So things "had to go differently" because everyone was expecting it to.

Seriously, your weird attempt to defend Samurai 8 is becoming more annoying than the Samurai 8 premature criticism from some time ago.

If TPN can overtake KnY, it probably means that their sales are going on par. And if that's the case, then I'd say it's unlikely KnY will surpass the MHA/TPN peak this month, because TPN itself already went down from that.
I think most buyers rushed on the first 2 days causing the supply to ran out fast on the 3rd day. They probably underestimated the copies they delivered or printed and by Sunday, most stores has only few copies at hand... I still think it can sell 200k copies plus for vol. 17 first 3 days..

Yeah, 65 is way less than I would expect for Samurai 8... It's probably less than 20k copies? If the manga has the usual drop after the first volume of a return of a veteran author things will look bad. If not it will probably keep being for a good while, maybe the entire planned run, it's probably just enough to get by considering Jump has 5 flops right now, and the number may grow to 7 soon.

Pretty happy for spy x family. How much does BC do first week, for comparison?

20k debut is what I expected for S8, but I voted for 40k+ in the poll cause I thought it could surprise us. My guts were right after all. Now, to see how volume 3 does in January.

CSM sold 10k more copies in the first week when compared to the last volume which also had a 3 day first week. That's great, I hope it can hold on the following week.

KNY backlog still going crazy, all the volumes sold over 35k and some of those should have sold like 60k copies this week. It should have accumulated sales around 1 million this week. I need Oricon's numbers so bad. Things looking better and better for KNY.

Also, Dr. Stone is never picking up is it. That time it went up the rankings because of the tv ad seems almost like a fever dream.

The last volume that had a 3 day first week sold 102k.

That's certainly an interesting sales week

- Samurai 8 below Zumou (v2 is below BC Quartet Knights even)
- Kimetsu above Neverland
- all the Kimetsu backlog in the top 30 yet again, meaning they're all above 35000 if I've understood the chart right
- Spy Family above Black Clover

Do you guys think that Act-Age can explode with a well done anime or is it too edgy for that?
If the anime is well done with animation, BGM and ofc VAs then yeah, it has a good chance to "explode" or at least raise its sales effectively. I doubt it will be a flop, expect they give it like to Toei or something like that.

What is the usual cut for the Oricon top 50? 15k-20k?
Then things are really bad
Less than 20k usually.

Spy x Family is still in 4th! And the volume 1 is in 33th place, higher than the previous day. That's incredible.
Wow! I can't believe that Vol1 not only managed to stay in the Top100 rankings till Vol2 dropped but also keeps increasing in ranks two days in a row after its 2nd Vol came out! But there is no way Vol1 can still stay Top100 till January 4th when Vol3 of SxF comes out. Then again I thought so for Vol.2 and SxF showed what it could get done.

How long do you guys predict Spy X Family running for
Very long. If you look at it, it does resemble Gintama in the sense that it got an overarching storyline, more prominently than Gintama's past, but also got episodic stuff or has potential to do as any episodic chapters as it wants due its setting. After all Twilight was told to do side missions besides his Top Mission because they got so few agents there. Then there is the length of his Top Mission that won't be over just meeting Damian's father. That could stretch through-out Anya's entire school career and her school duration is long. Plus they could also have missions from Yor in it, Twilight and Yor's relationship develop, then there are side characters like spy colleges or spy enemies maybe even from other countries who have an interest to keep the two countries separated or to turn the cold war into a hot one. And ofc there is Anya who surely will make more friends and also frenemies like Damian or real enemies once she starts to climb the Stellar ranks as a "commoner". This is an elite school after all. So I can see it run for a long time. It depends on how many characters the cast will include and how prominent the main storyline would be which was something that in Gintama could sometimes be forgotten for several months before it was mentioned again.

What I really like however is the SxF Main Trio being one male and two females instead of the usual two guys and one girl like in Naruto, Gintama, that comedy school manga which name I forgot but it was really good, Boku no Hero (though Iida seems to have dropped out of Deku's friend/partner list and got replaced by Bakugo and Ochaco seems to have been replaced by Todoroki because they are more popular, but at the beginning of the school it was Deku, Iida and Ochaco.) and plenty of other Shounen series where the series had a main trio to keep readers interested. Usually a more silly guy, a serious guy and well, eye candy and shipping material as harsh as it sounds. So it feels kinda fresh to have a main trio where there is only one guy included and the other two are not fighting over main guy's love as in lots of harem stories you start with two main girls and a harem MC and then just add more and more extras to the harem to keep readers engaged.

Yay for 4th place! Great sales are inbound for SxF Vol.2! Happy to see Vol1 so close to the Top50, next week it might even be in there. xD
Kimetsu is just killing it. That anime was insane stuff for its popularity.
65 and 73 for S8, uh, yeah, that's tough. Far from the 80k to 100k I thought it would get in its first week. I am not even sure if place 65 is 20k+ material or if it might be just below that. In any case, certainly not something that was expected by the Jump management else their PR would not have gone with such a huge campaign and large print number, which probably ranges somewhere between 100k and 200k. But it won't take long then we get to see real numbers for its first sale week soonish. I think in a day or two more or so? Maybe Buranchi allows us to write another 50 pages about S8 once we got real numbers to talk about before he closes the talk down again. XD

Also forgot that SxF will probably start introducing other Espers at some point

Oh right, that organisation behind Anya and her powers! Yeah, other Espers or even Spies/Agents with Esper powers are also a possibility. I cannot wait for the chapter where Twilight and Yor learn that Anya could read their thoughts the entire time. xD
So yeah, lots of possibilities that can be explored by a good author.

But I remember that this week will be based on three days of selling.
Three days while not a full week will give you a great idea what to expect of a volume sales. It'll only be unpredictable when something is getting a boost, like KNY.

They must be very strong to overcome a manga that sells millions in volume ...
They are. Very strong in fact.
It's a matter of seeing how much this OP volume sells and how stable the backlogs remain for KNY. They have been extremely stable so far.

It'll be interesting to see which Manga will sell more next year, KnY after its incredible boost or MHA.

Unless its boost can carry over onto the next year...unlikely. Only One Piece had a boost that carried itself for years until Attack On Titan and Nanatsu no Taizai was able to beat it in half year sales,

I don't see it as unlikely at all. Both Manga will be probably selling around 600-700k per volume.
