You quoted me after they deleted my comment lol

But answering, no i'm not talking as if Kishimoto is like any other author but your comment was way too much dramactic, Samurai 8 isn't selling like expected while they made some bigger effort to market it, so what? this happens from time to time with bigger names not selling like expected, do the regular reader even care? people will stop buying SJ because of this? the regular reader isn't a person in a forum being overdramactic about manga sales, print and etc.

Don't know why you're acting like this suddenly proves anything about your opinion regarding treatment, or SJ should basically do nothing to promote a new manga from such a big name?
You're really underselling how badly Samurai 8 is doing. The series had most likely hundreds of millions of yen pumped into advertising it, it was built up to for over three years (first mention of Kishi doing an SF manga was when the Boruto movie came out in October 2015), and, oh yes, Kishimoto is one of the biggest creators in the history of manga. And, even after the series got a mixed at best reception, Jump still gave it a first printing of at least 100k for both volumes.

And what do we have to show for that? A series that, on its debut week, can't beat Hinomaru Zumo, and is selling less than Hungry Marie was able to do. This is not a remotely positive result, it shows that, at best, the series is running purely on the fumes of Naruto and whatever prior advertising was given. It's selling about a tenth of its expected result. That's a businessman's worst nightmare.

What chapter was Bleach on when the anime first aired?
Wikipedia says the anime started October 2004, so it would be about mid-Soul Society.

Now we know that it sold 12k or so in its first days, now the question is these two volumes sold the series well to make those people come back on the volume 3? It sold well the series to make these readers talk to their friends the series is nice? Because now that the marketing didn't work they will have to rely on word of mouth and in the pure quality of the content. Kishimoto need to put some steam in this series.

I believe that good mangas don't need advertisement, they themselves are the advertisement. It may take time, but people will eventually realize its value. As for bad manga, no amount of advertisement will make them sell. I just think they overdid in the volumes knowing that the series was not going well in the magazine. They thought like many people here: "it is going bad at the magazine? No problem! Kishimoto name will make it sell volumes". They just forgot to tell Japanese readers about this.
Without an anime (a form of ADVERTISEMENT), 90% of the manga in WSJ wouldn't sell as much as it did.
Without an ametalk special (a form of ADVERTISEMENT), Kingdom wouldn't be in the top 3 6 years in a row (it goes from 2.5 mil in 2014 to 8.5 mil in 2015, 6.5 mil in 2016, 6.1 mil in 2017.
Without the January Campaign, Act Age would have go bye bye

Series like Spy only appears once in so many year (MHA was before it, and AC was before that), no TPN wasn't selling 200k off the gate. The series that is close to it without much ads is JJK.

Legit the only series off the top of my head that probably don't need advertisement (and no anime) and still selling like hot cake is Yotsuba& and a bunch of seinen series (20th Century Boy, Vagabond, REAL)

note: i'm only speaking about the first part of your paragraph about good manga needs no advertisement, that is simply not true.

It goes hand in hand, really. Good reception gives companies reason to advertise, advertisement gets in new readers and increases the series popularity, the cycle is self-perpetuating.

So? this isn't the point of what i was talking with Leoat, you people can be as much overdramatic you want but life continues and Shonen Jump will not crumble down because some bigger marketing or Samurai 8 and Kishimoto be burned down by SJ because is underperfoming, you people are too dramatic, is tiring...meh

Ehhh you're really being serious? because you know that this industry doesn't work like this at all right?

An anime is just the content of the manga animated, which reach people that wouldn't heard about it otherwise. However, it relies on the content of the series, if the content is bad, there is no use.
Do you think the series sold all that because of the program and not because of the quality of it? You are stepping in dangerous land there. :3c
If they talked about, I don't know, Sensei no Bulge, the readers just would say they are crazy and that's it.
It was just an incentive to make people look at it, but to make people buy 30+ volumes only one thing is effective: quality, advertisement only can do so much.

January Campaign? Now it is a serious question.

You're just contradicting yourself...
In what way? Say it to me so that I can understand. Say that someone is contradicting yourself without telling why is not a good argument.

But anyway, I just want to know what was this January Campaign thing, I was not here. I was basically reading and didn't have any interest in news.

If a manga just needs to be good to sell, why these mangas needed a anime, talk show or even a award to get a boost in sales? they shouldn't need that since they have quality and people would eventually discover them.

Just the fact you're implying that marketing only work if the series is "good" is already something problematic since you're implying that everything that is popular is high quality and what not sell, is not.

The point is that advertisement will make people knows the content. So, anime is advertisement for the manga.

Of course, the content is important.

However, "a lot of advertisement" could make the product reach new people who could be interested in the product and content.

The quality of the content would depend on opinions.

After this I don't think wsj will market a series so hard before it starts again. They'll probably wait for it to release a volume or two and market it then if it shows its gaining an audience by itself.

TPN and KNY swapped places again on Shoseki daily. Samurai 8 volumes 1 and 2 fell to 62 and 68. Hinomaruzumou and Yuuna-san took a nosedive too. The rest mostly few a few places due to new series getting new volumes.

Jump never has done something like this, though? The way they marketed Samurai 8 so heavily pre-release is an abnormality, which is part of why it failing to meet expectations is so glaring.

Even something like Robot x Laserbeam which they'd have reason to advertise months in advance, they just put out a message saying Fujimaki was coming back in Issue x as part of Batch Y.

Kimetsu is a monster and JJK on its way in surpassing BC in sales is very nice.
Wow Spy x Family selling this much even without an anime, really wondering how much it will sell if it gets an anime

also Kimetsu sales are awesome, all thanks to Ufotable,i am curious if it can dislodge One Piece from it's number one position.
Depends on how the staff handles the material. I feel like its gonna get an anime quick which may or may not be a good thing.

It is, even after the anime is done airing its getting a boost. I hope it doesnt tbh.

Second this. I think Shueisha is to big to be severely damaged by this flop, but it should learn the lesson this time. Bombastic pr campaign only works when the series already built up a dedicated fanbase (like with tpn and kny).
