Tokyo Shinobi Squad has such a huge world to explore, no way would it be axed especially with the chemistry the cast has.
Tokyo Shinobi Squad does have a great setting with a lot of potential!

Unfortunately, so did Metallica Metalluca, so did Golem Hearts, so did a lot of series that got axed in less than 30 chapters. The potential of a series isn't always what WSJ prioritizes when they decide what series to axe, especially over factors like popularity and sales... two areas in which TSS has not been doing too hot as of late.

I'm still holding out hope that TSS will stay around past the next batch, myself. I'm not sure how much longer it can realistically go past that though, seeing how Jump tends to work.

This is only tangentially Jump related, but isn’t the author of Fullmetal Alchemist - a manga widely considered to be one of if not the greatest shonen of all time - a woman?

I know we’re talking about editors here, but I’m pretty sure women can “understand the hearts of young boys” whatever that means. As long as editors have the skills to do their job well, gender shouldn’t really matter. They’re limiting their hiring pool.

Personally think having a female editors on board could help Jump’s issue with poorly handled female characters, and and under utilized female casts.

I know there was that big debate a few days ago about who does it best, but in reality like 98% of them don’t do it very well, so “who does it the least worst” isn’t all that relevant

If the pornographic statement is the only bit that upsets you, then that says a lot about you. Sexism is a much more important issue because it can directly influence the work of a mangaka.

I'm not sure if that could help with the female characters problem. I think it's mainly on authors and readers personal taste. Does the average Jump reader even care about having well written female characters, or appreciate them to begin with? Editors are charged with maximizing sales and popularity after all.

What it says about me? I don't need to focus in the talk about female editors, you guys are already doing this to death, i already talked a bit about it before and i'm not interested in that anymore since me and everyone here has zero powers to do anything about it.

That you might possibly feel threatened your lewd content might disappear (it won't obviously) while ignoring a much bigger issue that needs attention. I wasn't intending to have shots fired at you for no reason but this isn't the first time you got upset when someone criticized the sexual content in Yuuna.

You could have completely ignored the statement because it wasn't even the main focus in the tweets.

Of course it annoys me, because all this "controversy" around a easter egg in a color page is incredibly stupid and created by people who doesn't even know what they're talking about it, also not the first time that the exactly same thing happens with the manga.

It's not the main point of the tweets but it was something the catched my attention and i made a comment about it while the other users are still going and going on about thee whole "there are no female editors on Jump", you could have just ignored my comment.

The Yuuna thing might be a stupid controvery but if it weren't for that, who knows if the no female editor in WSJ would have gotten any exposure in the west. I've been frequenting this forum for years and this is the first time I've read Shonen Jump's reasoning for not hiring any female editors.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they flat out say they don't hire female editors. Wasn't the "boy hearts" comment immediately followed by "but everyone is welcome to apply"? I don't think you can attribute the fact there is no female editor in the main magazine to Jump hiring policy alone (though it might be a big factor). We don't know if it's the same situation in other popular shounen magazine, or the overall gender ratio of manga editors in Japan. Just like with the Yuuna situation, people focus on Jump because it has the most exposure.

Just because they accept an application doesn't mean they don't immediately throw it in the shredder

Exactly the point. The argument that jump mangas shall have better female characters because their readership has big women part is always baffles me. I mean it just proves that women likes shonen as it is. Look at Gintama. It had good female cast and its readership majority were women too. But if you look at merch and popularity polls only Kagura there.

Shueisha sent a statement to huffingtonpost

This is what google translated gave me:

―――――――――――――

“It's not unprecedented in the past. Women are assigned to“ Shonen Jump + ”, and women's editors have been assigned to young jumps, etc. It is necessary to be able to understand women's fashionable mind regardless of gender, and it is important to understand the boy's heart if it is a boys manga.

In addition, new graduate employees are not selected by department, but the entire company employs an appropriate number of employees and, after joining the company, is assigned according to their suitability. Regarding the above remarks, we will refrain from answering the date and university name.

Wow, we are back at this again.
I guess with S8 being out of the picture, we need another topic to reach 1000 pages.
We already knew WSJ are asshole toward female editors. What are we gonna do about it? Boycott WSJ products?

Why? What possible (good) reason is there to exclude them?
I dont agree it'll mean that there will be better female characters. At the end of the day I dont come to WSJ for great female characters or expect that even. It's a bonus if a series has it but it doesn't need to have that to be a great series.

I feel like some people are asking for a female editor for novelty sake at this point and/or are over estimating the potential benefits. It's more or less the same thing when people ask for more female mangaka's. I don't see major negatives from having one but at the same time I don't see a need for it.

I think women should be allowed to be wsj editors, but not because they have a special perspective or anything. Actually if that was the case then they shouldn't be, because then it'd make more sense to have an all male editorial for one magazine to have a male perspective towards one market, and an all female editorial to have a female perspective towards another market.

I think they should be allowed to be editors because a female can be as successful targeting a shonen audience as a man can. If that wasn't a case then allowing women to be authors and artists of manga in wsj wouldn't make sense, but they do allow it and they still succeed.
