Go isn't shogi or Othello or reversi (it's actually very different), but the argument holds, I think. If a board game manga can work, of course others can. And go may actually be harder to sell to a young audience.
Actually I think go is easier to sell than shogi. There is no different kind of chess pieces with fancy rule for each of them. Also, shogi is the most complex version of chess compare to the western or chinese one. It is hard to complete explain its rule without boring people to death. Meanwhile, the concept of go is simple, you surround your enemies to win.

I also find SxF to be one of the most overrated titles Ive read but pretty much its the cutesy stuff is what makes it popular. There's nothing to brag about its writing tbh
Also there is nothing to brag about for being a contrarian like how you used to brag about not liking kaguya in a WSJ thread :hi . The greatness of SxF writing lies in its simplicity or I could say elegant. Other people above me already point it out: each characters with distinct personality, each with their own goals and great chemistry with each others.
However, what impress me the most is author's clear inspiration from cold war. At a history nerd, while the setting is pretty bare bone, it still made me want to learn more about its world and compare to the real history.

if you look hard enough any popular series (or becoming popular post anime) can be overrated. Heck you can even make opinion on series that sell 100k overrated too (comparing 100k to 50k series)

But you don't have cutesy stuff and have 1 million in circulation with 2 volumes. There are countless cutesy stuff that failed to break 100k.
You don't even need to look hard enough, tbh. Just know the right places to look. Every popular anime/manga will have people calling it overrated, and if it hasn't, then give it time cause it will happen. At this point, IMO, it's just a more pretentious and annoying way to say that you don't like it.

There's gotta be something Spy x Family is doing right to receive all this popularity. I mean, one doesn't just become the biggest new Jump-related manga to debut since HeroAca (or even AssClass at this point) without a good reason. I have yet to read it, but whatever it's doing is clearly resonating with both Eastern and Western readers (considering just how popular it is within the manga community as well).

Look up Go winning board on google and tell me how do you win at Go. Also look at the wikipedia on how to play Go
Now do the same thing for Chess,Shogi, Chinese checker.

The concept of "checkmate" is far more simple then whatever Go has

Bruh you don't need to sell shogi. It's a Japanese manga. They all know the rules. It's literally Japanese chess.

Also Spy X Family has fucking AMAZING designs, panelling, flow, pacing, direction, and overall story beats, and dies it all without sacrificing its mainstream appeal, which is why it's popular.

It's not good for ones credibility to claim that Hikaru no GO is a SHOGI series. And did the first good exorcist manga doom all of Jump's exorcist manga, lol?

Mael some tastes come when you grow older. And start to appreciate non battle shonens more.

Seems like Mononofu didn't existed, it was published for 43 chapters, got plenty of good rankings and many color pages, ironically the last volume was the best selling of the series (well, the nipples obviously helped kkkkk)

Damn, I had forgotten how big Soma's hype was in the initial volumes and the numbers it posted.

Also. All mangaka in this field, work hard. If you are serialized with a weekly series, you are working fucking hard. This doesn't need to be mentioned or proven.

And let me end it with this.... It's my opinion so no need to take it seriously.
You've phrased your "opinion" in a way that makes it seem like an established fact. Hence, why people are offended by your comments on SxF. Shouldn't be that hard to figure it out.

Shame that this one isn't being released on Manga Plus, such a good art and cute girls, at least the scans are doing the work

This gave me an idea for a new poll, but then I realized it's not really M+ that's not allowing ecchi series, it's the app stores from Google and iOS, I believe.

How good is Donsako Gyaru? Kinda interested in reading it, especially after the largest chapter kind of blew up on r/manga.

I have been checking the manga here and there and so far is a nice and cute series, the art is really cute and hot at the same time, the fanservice is actually way less than you would think considering the gyaru and that the girls have big boobs but it's a nice series, if you like romcom/sol you will like the manga, is the typical Sunday/Magazine romcoms but on Jump

In the grand scheme of things, this chart that sometimes gets posted here has essentially no impact on WSJ, unless this is how the Twitter poll voters voted on the surveys that get sent back to WSJ. The sample size is just an incredibly small Twitter poll some Japanese Twitter user creates weekly. It kind of gives us a feel on how a "vocal minority" of the Japanese public feels. Basically, these should just be looked at for fun rather than taken too seriously

Exactly!

This is me when Futari no Taisei ends tonight:

Why can't we have a shogi manga surviving? There are already like 4 corpses in last 3 years :emobirb
I will be too sad tonight.
