Seriously though, this sounds fishy to me. Even if Oricon's numbers are estimates, a difference of 3 million for OP and 2 million for KNY is too big a difference. If Oricon is only missing bookstores then it would be fine if OP's numbers went up, but KNY's numbers shouldn't go down (and by a ridiculous amount) because Shueisha is the source. KNY went from 3.5 million copies in print at the beginning of the year to 20 million now, which means it added 16.5 million copies in that meantime. So, they are telling us that KNY ,which has been sold out in many bookstores and getting numerous reprints, has only sold 10 million out of new prints? I need Oricon's numbers

Yall already forgot something similar happen last year? Shuiesha released their sales figure and it was way off compare to Oricon (some has higher sales than Oricon, while some has lower sales that Oricon).

Perhap one of yall Sales Ninja can recover that infos
I'd trust Oricon more since they are independent from the publishing firm and are almost unbiased...

It seems it's just circulation numbers. Also, One Piece digital volumes are delayed by a month, so is almost impossible that this numbers include digital.

oricon didn't count certain distrobutor/shop (like kyoani/squere enix shop) or online order. let alone digital.
Funnily enough, Oricon actually started tracking the Kyo Ani shop early this year.

I mean that's still pretty accurate sample size... I mean just to compare, TV ratings company like Nielsen in the US uses a sample of thousands to represent millions....
One potentially major source that Oricon doesn't take into account but could be relevant for major Jump titles is sales from Convenience Stores.

But in the article it says it's the "most selling manga of the year" if it was circulation numbers it would have said the most printing or something like that. Also I've been reading on tieba it's circulation so all this its already very confusing. I think it's just a matter of time to reveal to the public the numbers for every series, regardless of their source.

But these's figures are from Shueisha and are considered more official than Oricon. True, it doesn't add up but only time will tell why OP sales have spiked up so much.

I just read further down that article and and something caught my eye.

"テレビアニメが今年4~9月に放送され、今年9月にはコミックスの累計発行部数が1000万部を突破するなど"

"The anime was broadcast between April and September of this year and the series broke through a cumulative of 10 million copies in print by September". Why are they only mentioning the number of copies in print up to September? It would be more understandable if they didn't mention the 20 million copies in print since that's not even a week old yet, but the 16 million figure was before the end of the fiscal year. This is really weird.

If I'm not mistaken the day the anime ended it was at 12M, not 10M.

That was at the end of the month. The 10 million figure is from the beginning of the month/end of August. They totally ignored the 12 million figure too lol.

I have a question, why does jump publish the weekly magazines ahead of the date they state on the cover?

Changing the topic to something that doesn't look like an extended game of back-and-forth, how about we discuss which authors we'd like to see return next year? I suggested this a few pages back (it got buried), but we could list three axed authors and one veteran we'd like back.

Going first, I'd say Tsunehiro Date, Ryoji Hirano and either Gen Osuka or Takamasa Moue would be my three picks for cancelled authors. Date's art at least would make him an ideal replacement for WNL in the romance manga department, Hirano has massive potential to grow (he was only 23 when Bozebeats was serialized) and Osuka and Moue have clearly extremely promising ideas which simply need the right amount of room to be explored. As for the vet, I select Matsui, purely because he's the one author I can see being easily able to make a hit no matter the environment.

Well we might be seeing next level damage control.

I never understood this. They won either way, regardless if its OP or Kimetsu at the #1 spot. It's not like OP lost its feat of best selling manga of all time lol.
Because you can not promote something as "best selling manga in the world" if it isnt best currently selling manga in the world :cheez

It...would be really something if One Piece took the crown this year and everyone just celebrated prematurely. I’ll wait for the Orison charts, but if it does turn out that way... hoo boy.

So we are going to start conspiracy theories now? lol
One Piece won, fair and square, please don't undermine it...
IMO It would be in Shueisha's best interest if Kimetsu No Yaiba would have won, the tankobon's would all have "Best selling title of 2019" or something, and now.. It wont have that lol
No need for Shueisha to do anything sketchy, they would be:
a) Lying to their customers
b) Paying extra taxes (For the supposedly 2+ million "fake" extra One Piece sales they put out of their hypotetical asses)
c) Shooting themselves in the foot by not allowing Kimetsu to overtake One Piece and get a HUUUUUUUUUUGE PR boost (Not that it needs it anyway).
