It is kinda weird that they start talking about Kimetsu in an interview with the OP editor about how OP is first.

We know that Oricon doesn't provide the most truthful numbers all the time. Especially with how big OP is, i think OP is probably even sold in small shops somewhere in the japanese countryside where Oricon doesn't have any coverage. OP is so big, i can see Oricon missing a lot of the sales for it. That isn't weird for me at all.

Whats more weird for me, is just the reported number of Shueisha for KnY. There are several possibilities in my head why the number is a big as Shueisha reported but i don't want to theorize unneccesarily. Hopefully Shueisha clarify's their statement or the Oricon chart gives us a bit more clarity.

Also if you have been following OP, you should know that the 5 years thing is not a big marketing stunt. I can cleary see it end in the next 5 years, maximum 7. Its just the most asked question that OP fans ask Oda or his editor, so you get updates pretty often.

I mean, that's a bit of a vague question, but I'd say it's likely, at any rate? It's been happening most years, at least.

That said, I'm not really sure I want a veteran back. Going off the list of vets who'd plausibly return some time soon, Shimabukuro is too limited (basically everything he does will draw comparisons to Takeshi or Toriko), Shinohara seems to be currently suffering from writers block, Kubo I don't want back because of his health issues making him drawing a serialization an extremely difficult prospect, Asou I struggle to see him creating a work which could remotely compare to Saiki, and Komi is...dated, I guess? Matsui seems like the only one I can easily see making another hit, but even then I feel like I'd prefer new authors to continues manga's evolution, rather than the same creators continuing to find little of true merit.
How is Shimabu too limited? Both Takeshi & Toriko are very different from each other. I definitely agree that Matsui can easily come with another hit, same goes for Shimabu. These recent new authors left a bad taste in my mouth, especially TSS...that series was horrid so I eagerly want to see a veteran return more than ever.

I look forward to Shimabu/Matsui the most for 2020 tbh.

Indeed Oricon under-reporting is fine since it doesnt have full coverage
But over-reporting is weird to say the least

Oricon hasn't reported anything though. Everything we've gotten in regards to sales is based entirely on second hand information infact Shuiesha is the one who has been providing coverage on Kimetsu's growing sales via print totals. Oricons numbers are just what it gets through its retailers and that's it.

The numbers Oricon provide are their extrapolation of total (nationwide) sale based on data from their partnered stores. If not, their numbers would be much further from print counts given the proportion of stores they represent.
still not total :derp

in seriousness, yeah that match the statement from a few music data,

regardless, point is as long the kept the methodology same throughout, is can consider to be fair, but with advantage to distributions that are proportionally more on stores they covered

New question:

Whats the best Jump manga this year? I am just talking about the chapters that were published this year for each Manga in Jump. So not an all time ranking.

For me:

1. Kimetsu no Yaiba
2. Act Age
3. Chainsaw Man
4. Jujutsu Kaisen
5. One Piece

If you switch #1 and #2, it's literally the same list for me.

@MangAniMY Do companies include the print amount in the sales data early for the amount they expect to sell rather than what it does? Maybe Shuiesha put the total amount it shipped out for the latest volume and not the amount it actually sold
kinda lost on your question...

most publishers just post circulation numbers, obviously they expected them to sell, but sales numbers are very very rarely given compared to circulation numbers

I only read 3 manga at the moment so I'll go with:
Kny
Chainsaw man
BC

Each one had great chapters that I enjoyed a lot this year.

1. One Piece (it's One Piece)
2. Hinomaru-Zumou (what a great run of chapters leading to its ending)
3. Chainsawman (best debut by far)
4. Neverland (not that good recently but still decent, however it was probably my favorite at the beginning of the year)
5. Act-Age, probably? I don't remember exactly what chapter it was when the year started

Oricon might be an estimate, but it's the estimate we've been using for literally every manga comparison for a decade.

If you disregard it now, then you have to disregard it for everything else.

Oh sorry.

Like what if the numbers Shuiesha provided were the amount they shipped out and not necessarily the amount it sold?

But it really doesn't benefit anyone if that was the case. OP being 1# is just a sign of consumer stagnation.
This is exactly what I’m trying to say. If you’ve been following this year’s sales, you should know Kimetsu no Yaiba should have sold more than One Piece yet as you also said, on the other hand Shueisha would gain nothing from falsifying the numbers. So, this is the thing. Knowing that there’s definitely something wrong with Shueisha’s rankings, and knowing that Kimetsu no Yaiba should have sold more, would you accept that article that easily, even tho they would gain absolutely NOTHING from faking news? I would love to accept Shueisha’s ranking, but this is not the case. That’s why I’m so conflicted right now.
Also, following its rankings, there would be incoherencies all around with Kimetsu no Yaiba’s news about reprints, circulation numbers and so on. Everything is so confusing right now.
People who wanted OP to be #1 are blindly accepting Shueisha’s Yearly Sales, while people who were following this year’s sales figures are not, whether you wanted OP or KnY to take the crown for this year

We used Oricon because there was no other options and before 2006 they didn't even provide numbers also they're not infailable.

in the article or in general?

in the article is up for debate with shipped making much more sense.

in general, as in wraparound, twitter, chapter blurb are almost always shipped/circulation

sales are really really rare, mostly third party oricon, shoseki, annual publication magazine (i forgot the actual name)

I have better questions for yall.

Which series did you personally support this year/last year okay too (import/export, manga, blu-ray, merch, games...)?

I helped Act Age from not getting the axed (bought volume 1-4 during that Campaign period) :wooo . Re-Bought 4 volumes of Yuragi in English.

And 72 volumes of Naruto and 28 volumes of Fist of the North Star, and the third One Piece boxset. Yeah i went ham this year.\

I will prob support Mitama too when it releases

Buying figure merch counts lol? I own some figures from KnY. I wanted to buy the manga in Japanese but it's really too hard for me to get them shipped where I live.
