Well, this is just absolutely ridiculous. Volume 17 missed the 1 million mark by so little and almost every single volume has sold 900k. It's a matter of time before all the volumes hit the 1 million figure. OP sold even less than I expected and HQ is struggling so much, I'm afraid the next volume will sell even less within a month.

Let's see. KnY's event happened during Taisho era (which kind of surprised me that this happened later than Golden Kamuy, which portrayed Japan to be much more modern). The most relevant political events happened during this time was Japan intervention in Russian civil war, which was pretty uneventful. Japan was becoming even more democratic at that time, so there is even less material to write about
That was a fun thought exercise. Anyway, one of the major reason for this boost is the sight of upcoming end. Anime ended right when the manga began what seems to be a conclusion arc. Thus, many anime onlies that don't want to be spoiled by assholes, would purchase the first manga volume in their entire lives.

Honestly, this is inexplicable. After half a year of nonstop boosting, you must expect Japan has run out of new readers at this point. Yet apparently about 60k people pick up the series every single week.
