Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

Funny how Mitama and Yozakura were tied, even the tie-breaker is such a technicality, they debuted one week apart! I think this represents what I've been feeling, which is that they are pretty similar in reception around here.

I'm curious to see how Zipman will do in the poll, since there's that thing on Bakuman that "the first chapter of a new manga usually do good in the rankings", let's see if it will happen here :P

Big question, once Yuuna finally ends, do you think Jump should go looking for another ecchi manga, or no?
Of course. When it's submitted and approved.

I assume they never really go looking (was there even one between TLR and Yuuna?) but just run what's submitted. I wouldn't really consider ecchi series a staple of Jump like harems/sports/gag/action so going a while without one (like they did between TLR and Yuuna if I'm right) wouldn't really be an issue.
Yunna is harem though (romcom harem). It's more focused on ecchi and all but that doesn't change much since all the romcom of wsj had ecchi in more or less scale, with TLR and Yunna being the ones with more between those.

Jump possibly looking for a new romcom/harem (and sports too no doubt) makes me wonder how much they encourage writers to makes certain kinds of series. I know there's the story of Magazine supposedly wanting Akamatsu to make another harem series which resulted in Negima being a harem that shifted to action (don't know if it's true but that's the story people say at least).

Do we have any known situations like that in WSJ? I know they often encourage authors to put in certain types of characters but I don't know if I've heard about them pushing a creator towards a certain genre (would explain why we get shogi manga by people who don't care about shogi).

Come Akira Amano bring ive hockey back. So preferred it over Yuri on Ice (skipped all the skating parts save yurio).

Baseball and Soccer in jump (boys club) are always on my list of desires. Ace of Diamond and Major2nd deserve competition.

I remember earlier this year there was a page on WSJ site encouraging people to submit manga of a certain types
"western fantasy" "high school career" "sports" or something like that
I remember them using Game of Thrones as an example of a western fantasy, which people thought was weird

also back in the day, around the time Naruto and Beelzebub ended there were interviews with editors who was asked "what type of manga is jump looking for now" and they said traditional Japanese fantasy and delinquents (I'm guessing KnY was born this way? but yankees manga never actually arrived which is a shame)

so they definitely play favorite when choosing what submissions to serialize

Without no proof whatsoever, I think it does happen. The editorial probably always want to find series for the genres that are lacking on the magazine.

Interesting question, do you guys think a delinquent manga could work in Jump?

I think Jump needs something in veins of BOY, Beelzebub...hopefully.

I prefer something like Crows or Bakuon Rettou

although I wouldn't mind something funny and aware of its own ridiculousness like Beelzebub or Kongou Banchou

I hesitate to call Beelzebub a "real" delinquent manga mostly because the series is only really close to the genre in the first arc. After that it's just an action-comedy with delinquents and a couple demons comprising its main cast.

Considering that Rookies and Rokudenashi Blues were on Jump and a big sucess (both from same author btw), sure. But we don't get it for ages if you don't count beelzebub which was about yankee but obviously much more about demons.

Honestly, I'm not convinced Yankee mangas would work in this era. Yankee mangas reached its peak between the late 80s to early 90s, if I recall.

The genre has changed a lot, but this decade has still seen popular titles in it like Tokyo Revengers and OUT, so it's not impossible.

They could make a yankee manga that's takes place somewhere outside Japan. Personally I would love to see a British Roadman manga. I'm sure that would do well cause it seems japs love western stuffs 🙂
