Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Same here, Karura ftw.

I just got caught up with Mitama. I gotta say that this manga has serious potential to be really amazing. If it continues at the rate it's going, this may very well be the case.
Good to see another fan. o/ Karura is my favorite with her personality and design in Yunna by far.

These things all sound so pointless to me
  • Jujutsu Kaisen removable cover? What is that? I thought they were gonna give us some informations about the anime
  • Kimetsu no Yaiba bookmarks? Huh? Okay I guess... no new informations about the movie?
  • Short stories for the other four...for what reasons exactly?
Edit: for some kind of reason I read it was referring to Jump Festa 2020, my bad

The super stage for JJK has to be pretty huge since we don’t even have a visual or teaser yet for the anime that was announced almost a month ago

I wonder if we will see a PV for JJK at Jump Festa. The studio/staff are surely to be announced then and it is airing next year.

Removable covers are exactly what they sound like. You see them in Jigokuraku volumes like in here

Because if you're going to bother having all these intended secondary characters and introducing them all in the first chapters then during those first four months you should at least START to develop them or do literally anything with them for that matter instead of acting like they simply don't exist outside of the first chapter.
It just feels to me like laziness or lack of creativity.

It also feels like you're missing our point. You don't have to have 17 chapters of backstory for each indvidual character, and you definitely don't need to just randomly decide to give them infodump backstory and development years into the series.
There's a middle ground that a mangaka who knew what they were doing would be treading. What we are saying isn't a hard thing to understand and its clogging up the thread repeating ourselves over and over.
Ashihara is one of those mangakas who does this whole slow character growth+little world building tidbits very well with secondary characters. Like how with Nasu squad we see one of their meetings at home, the sniper girl crying because her parents decided to leave the city due the invasion. You get to know that this is the last time those girls can fight together as a team. You understand that there are people who can no longer stand the risks living in Mikado city carries with you. You see Nasu lying in the bed the whole time without anyone explicit talking about it but you realize that she isn't as healthy as the other girls. Or his short flashbacks which are usually like one chapter long and which explain why the secondary character is behaving the way she or he is. And other stuff for which we get only one panel, like the moderator girl collecting the whole tournament series someone making a Suwa cube joke or Kazama praising freckles for his growth, etc.

Maybe this is exactly what led to Toriko's downfall. Jump rushed to promote Toriko ahead of Bleach, a much more established series which was at its peak during that time, and that led to the promotions backfiring because of the way they obnoxiously put it in front. The magazine misread the timing of Toriko's popularity.
Ehh i'm confused about what exactly you're talking when saying "Toriko was put ahead of Bleach when Bleach was at its peak", this isn't true at all, the first time that Shonen Jump showed to everyone that "Toriko was part of the big 3" was in this cover: http://www.imagebam.com/image/061bf71327992510

This is exactly the mark point where Bleach started to heavily drop in the rankings (i checked again) and start living in the bottom and the sales drop too while Toriko anime adaptation started leading the manga to rise in popularity and sales (the rankings were already great), so if anything the time was right because one started to heavily drop in popularity while the other was rising.

It's actually the cover before that when Toriko was ahead of Ichigo and WSJ had a big four for a brief moment. This was before the anime which started in April 2011while this issue was in Jan.
Bleach was still consistently in the top 5 and sold 650-700k. Double, if not triple, of Toriko.

This is why i put that one, because this one is a "big 4" moment when the issue #20/21 is the definite "Toriko is now part of big 3" moment, and after that Bleach was removed from it, i even remember reading comments joking about Ichigo facial expression being like "Yep, i'm out now".

Sure but the context of what we are talking about was how WSJ put Toriko, a series that was two years old without an anime or anything, ahead of Bleach (even in the big four cover) which was a pillar of that era and how that compares the whole KnY replacing HQ thing.
So WSJ putting KnY ahead of HQ is not a surprise anymore. I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner with TPN instead, tbh.

Think the only other series that got almost instantly promoted to the front was AC, if i remember correctly.

Hell, if we're going by the argument of "Yozakura is a comedy, you're being unfair by comparing it to battle manga", Saiki is a just as valid a demonstration. The first 20 chapters gradually spoonfeeds characters, first establishing Saiki and his parents, then one by one introducing Nendou, Kaidou, Terahashi, Yumehara, Hairo and Toritsuka one after another. The result is that readers slowly get introduced one by one to the characters in Asou's initial plans for the series and how they relate to Saiki himself. This creates a sense of stability since it gets readers used to the set-up and leads people to be interested when Asou expands on both the cast and their dynamics.

Yozakura, meanwhile, introduces eight characters in its first chapter, then does virtually nothing with half of them until Chapter 10. By that point, the series is suddenly introducing even more characters, even though none of the ones it already has feel fully established. It doesn't help that virtually none of the characters interact with anyone aside from the main duo, meaning they feel even more isolated and meaningless.

This just makes me miss saiki. Truly one of the best comedy manga to have ever come out.

Having more recently gotten into it, I agree. Feels like the one mainstream gag manga this decade which truly made an impact.

Agravity boy second chapter makes me think this will mainly be "asshole with a heart of gold" type of a story, similar to Gintama
while how to colonize the planet will be pushed to the back

& the Doraemon alien thing is there to mess with them with his inventions/introduce the conflict of the week

Darling in the Franxx is ending in 3 chapters.

Pls Yabuki, come back!!!! with TLR 3 pls
inb4 Yabuki does another collab with Trigger, BNA looks interesting

Here's a question.
What are your guys's5favorite and least favorite yet axed within a year Jump series this decade?.

Favorites; Illegal Rare
Ultra Battle Satellite
Tokyo Shinobi Squad
Shuudan
With Golem Hearts, David, and Noah's Notes tied ig.

Least favorites for me would probably be;
Red Sprite
Takamagahara
Bozebeats
Hell Warden Higuma
Demon Prince Poro
fav: Neko Wappa, Mitsukubi Condor, Ultra Battle Satellite, Shuudan, The Last Saiyuki
least: Double Taisei, Hungry Marie, U19, Spring Weapon Number One, Sporting Salt

Zipman is technically sound, but I do admit that it's not very exciting. At least, to me.

Another problem is that, while I do like the human character designs overall, the robot designs are pretty lacking.

However, that could just be a me problem. I'm very picky in terms of designs I find cool.
I agree, but one would think he's saving the best robot designs to recurring characters/important villains/rivals rather than use them on early canon fodder

interesting, so they're using KnY cards as hook to buy the magazine instead of ending an established title there
welp, KnY is certainly popular enough t do that

Yaiba is now literally the second best selling manga on Japan (by volume), so shouln't be any surprise for Jump to put it in front of Haikyuu. Neverland is probably the editors knowing that would be a really short series and the sales weren't at "that" level to put in front of Haikyuu that has a much bigger name.

I was referring to the MC's robot design as well. In my opinion, it's lackluster.

My issue personally is that the designs feel too simplified. The series is a transparent attempt to emulate Kamen Rider, but the robots shown thus far are rounded simplified shapes with few additional details, when Rider uses much more elaborate designs for both monsters and the Riders themselves. They end up looking like bad Super Sentai villains more than anything else.
