Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Still not really feeling either Zipman or Agravity right now. Agravity's second chapter manages to feel yet again like nothing of consequence actually happened. Zipman at least has some heart and energy to it that I appreciate, but I'm still not quite attached to the main cast or story yet, and the power gimmick introduced in this chapter is... kind of lame? Both just give off pretty "whatever" vibes right now.
Agravity Boys has one good joke per chapter and no semblance of direction. I seriously don't even know what to expect anymore.

Zipman is, er... well, boring. The story is checking off all the boxes for an action manga, but it's not really adding anything new and I don't feel a connection to any of the characters. Maybe this'll work better for kids (though it's still going to need something more original to keep them entertained, because kids aren't stupid).

It's kind of funny what happened to Yozakura and Mitama. Yozakura is something a lot of us thought had all the ingredients for success right off the bat, and it's currently kind of struggling to stay exciting and relevant. Meanwhile, even those of us that liked Mitama's debut were unsure it had the legs to survive as an ongoing series, and now it has potentially the most positive reception of any currently running WSJ series that's under a year old. It's like the two swapped places.
Their contents swapped places, too. Mitama started out as a one-note gag manga, but has been diversifying its cast and growing a plot. Yozakura looked like a comedic romance/action series at first, but is now just repeating the same jokes with the same type of characters.

Hoping we get a new batch sooner rather than later, and I think that has some potential to happen. On top of reboot ending next week and there being multiple empty slots currently filled by one shots and special chapters, multiple established series seem to be entering their endgame. Fingers crossed for a new batch of 3+ series within the next month or so, and that whatever comes next is something I'm more excited about.
Yes, please. I don't know what they are waiting for. After Reboot ends next week, 20% of the magazine will be empty.

Also, WNL is suddenly giving off serious ending vibes. Based on content alone, I could see it end next week.

So looks like this will be another week where when i go to read Yozakura chapter expecting something bad i actually enjoy the chapter like all the ones before kkkkk

And despite disagreeing with Stivie with the Nisekoi comparison, i think that some people here were expecting something that the author never promised, it's very clear that the manga is supposed to be mainly a comedy with romcom elements at least for the beginning and some users were expecting something else.
I disagree. The first chapter had jokes, but it also had scenes like this:

Back then, it could've become a romcom, it could've become a more serious slice-of-life romance, it could've become a comedic spy action series. There was no way to tell that it would devolve into pure gags without plot.

(For the record, I don't think it needs to do a long, serious arc, per se... but SxF is also a spy comedy with no real plot to speak of, and it has a lot more variation between chapters than Yozakura does. Just give us some different situations instead of "Psycho is coming after Mutsumi, Take 12.")

Tell me one criteria for black clover to earn more respect and recognition than any series above.
Also not forgetting TPN, black clover is not even in the "big 5'.

I don't even hate black clover, but I sure am annoyed at the way black clover fans act as if there series got mistreated.

I think you should wait until the cover is released. Asta should have a noticeable spot compared to the rest of the magazine. :ohNot to mention that I'm a little confused on how they managed to make them skating with such a little space lol.

But why? Just because you like it?
Honestly, the series is lucky it even made it past its first year.
Now, while I side with the general opinion about Black Clover not being in any way "mistreated", I'll just point out that this is def an exaggeration at best. BC Vol 1 is estimated by Shoseki to have done at least 60K, it was basically safe from Day 1.

I was referring more to the quality of the series during its first year.

I was saying that BC deserves more respect and recognition.
Respect and recognition? It had both from the very start, with a dedicated fanbase and received much love from Shueisha. BC has an anime with over 100 episodes, if you don’t call that being recognized I don’t know what it is. I believe it is very lucky compared to others despite the sales having stagnated and/or selling less

Exactly. Guys, this is something that really needs to be reinforced.

Stop turning sales into a giant pissing match.

The manga industry, from what I've observed anyway, runs on a general range of 25-300K as "good" sales, with the nuance coming depending on the publication and the genre and a lot of other stuff. Black Clover, as a series selling about in the middle of that range, is doing just fine. Stop treating outliers like Kimetsu's utterly insane boost as some kind of industry norm.

Stop saying just because you like it. I can easily say "Why DOESN'T it deserve it? Just because you don't like it"

What your point. Yes I like it, so of course I want it to have more recognition and respect... Not saying it doesn't already but it deserves more. And I am not saying that JuSt because I like it but because it's a genuinely good manga and I like to see genuinely good stuff to be rewarded with praise. Don't know about you though.

Maybe I'm just fanboying but I think a manga like BC should be doing MHA numbers.

Speaking of sales, are the Oricon numbers for the week out yet?

It seems they will come out very late again, new schedule perhaps?

The hell, are we going the way of Manucians and have a "big 12" for the 12th place manga to be included?
haha just a short term to the five best-selling in the magazine :P

Yeah. Honestly, many authors, editors and publishers wish they had BC sales and different products (games, merchandise, anime, etc). While BC could be much more, what it already is, is quite big.

Weekly Shonen Jump does have some of if not the highest sales standards for manga that run there. To me, it feels like you need at least 5 digits first week to avoid the axe. Compare that to, say, Weekly Shonen Champion, where it seems like new serializations only need something 2,000 first week to survive and many of it's manga tend to not make it into the Oricon Top 50.

Simply surviving in Weekly Shonen Jump is a massive achievement in itself, in my opinion.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like people get unhealthy expectations from Jump manga's sales. Black Clover sells a lot for basically any magazine that isn't Jump, and even in that it still does fine. I remember arguing the same for Dr. Stone, that sells even less.

I mean, why should it matter if Black Clover sells less than BNHA? It won't be canceled, it's an important series for the magazine and fans can enjoy basically every consequence of its success: anime, promotions, spin-offs, etc

Man, if only Takamagahara got a great anime adaptation. It would've been the next Kimetsu of it's generation. Truly the most mistreated series of this century /s

Also, my apologies if this was already posted, but has KNY received the next batch of prints after running out of stock?

When black clover came out. It was the only "interesting" manga to read while other mangakas tried so hard to be unique, so tabata was smart to play the safe game. Oh and highlight yami on that moment was smart too to keep the readers invested

Oh for sure, not getting cancelled and being in there for years is already an accomplishment regardless of anything because the numbers necessary and the popopularity is much higher since WSJ is the biggest out there.
