Still not really feeling either Zipman or Agravity right now. Agravity's second chapter manages to feel yet again like nothing of consequence actually happened. Zipman at least has some heart and energy to it that I appreciate, but I'm still not quite attached to the main cast or story yet, and the power gimmick introduced in this chapter is... kind of lame? Both just give off pretty "whatever" vibes right now.
Agravity Boys has one good joke per chapter and no semblance of direction. I seriously don't even know what to expect anymore.
Zipman is, er... well, boring. The story is checking off all the boxes for an action manga, but it's not really adding anything new and I don't feel a connection to any of the characters. Maybe this'll work better for kids (though it's still going to need something more original to keep them entertained, because kids aren't stupid).
It's kind of funny what happened to Yozakura and Mitama. Yozakura is something a lot of us thought had all the ingredients for success right off the bat, and it's currently kind of struggling to stay exciting and relevant. Meanwhile, even those of us that liked Mitama's debut were unsure it had the legs to survive as an ongoing series, and now it has potentially the most positive reception of any currently running WSJ series that's under a year old. It's like the two swapped places.
Their contents swapped places, too. Mitama started out as a one-note gag manga, but has been diversifying its cast and growing a plot. Yozakura looked like a comedic romance/action series at first, but is now just repeating the same jokes with the same type of characters.
Hoping we get a new batch sooner rather than later, and I think that has some potential to happen. On top of reboot ending next week and there being multiple empty slots currently filled by one shots and special chapters, multiple established series seem to be entering their endgame. Fingers crossed for a new batch of 3+ series within the next month or so, and that whatever comes next is something I'm more excited about.
Yes, please. I don't know what they are waiting for. After Reboot ends next week, 20% of the magazine will be empty.
Also, WNL is suddenly giving off serious ending vibes. Based on content alone, I could see it end next week.
So looks like this will be another week where when i go to read Yozakura chapter expecting something bad i actually enjoy the chapter like all the ones before kkkkk
And despite disagreeing with Stivie with the Nisekoi comparison, i think that some people here were expecting something that the author never promised, it's very clear that the manga is supposed to be mainly a comedy with romcom elements at least for the beginning and some users were expecting something else.
I disagree. The first chapter had jokes, but it also had scenes like this:
Back then, it could've become a romcom, it could've become a more serious slice-of-life romance, it could've become a comedic spy action series. There was no way to tell that it would devolve into pure gags without plot.
(For the record, I don't think it needs to do a long, serious arc, per se... but SxF is also a spy comedy with no real plot to speak of, and it has a lot more variation between chapters than Yozakura does. Just give us some different situations instead of "Psycho is coming after Mutsumi, Take 12.")
