Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I'm surprised we haven't seen a Monster Hunter rip-off, given how popular the games are now.

Toriko kinda counted, but Toriko only ate the beasts, and not actually forged gear from their body parts. Shimabu also added fanart into the series, which could work really well for this kind of series.
Don't think it would work very well. The reason the games are popular have nothing to do with the manga media, and I speak as a fan of the series myself. They already tried with a MH manga by mashima and IIRC that bombed.

I agree that the train arc movie could push it that far. I also think that if it does, they're going to show up to Gotouge's house with a dump truck full of cash to convince him/her to extend the series.

With that level of success, they'd be forced to try everything to get KnY to keep running.
Nakano driving up to Gotouge's apartment with the truck begging and trying to convince them to continue, all the while hiding the fact that if he fails, he's getting fired that day.

Sorry, this will be the last time I dunk on Nakano, I swear.

A manga about humans using teamwork to bring down massive foes wouldn't be a success? I mean, that was Shingeki no Kyojin's initial premise. Give it a fantasy skin, and include tons of varied monsters and a unique cast with unique weaponry to bring the monsters down and I think Jump could have a huge hit on their hands actually.

Shingeki isn't exactly what I'd call an "MH ripoff" though.

Making series where the focus is monster hunting and crafting wouldn't be a success is what I meant. The story is nothing but an afterthought in Monster Hunter.

I'm not saying Shingeki is a MH ripoff in any way, just that they share that key feature which is something that is an easy thing to find cool (using teamwork to take down massive foes).

But crafting doesn't have to be the focus of a hypothetical monster hunting series. Simply a group of adventurers hunting monsters. Perhaps one of the adventurers has a goal to take down a certain "King of Beasts" or something to drive the plot along.
Just because Monster Hunter isn't focused on story doesn't mean you can't create a story around the concept. Plus nobody is saying the series has to be within the Monster Hunter IP. Just a manga derived from the concept.

You can only build a story so much without throwing in enemies that...well, actually think, I'd say. And even then I think people prefer humanoid villains in a story.
Nobody has been able to go anywhere near monster hunter's success even in games within the same genre. And a lot of games tried. Just off the top of my head, god eater, soul sacrifice, freedom wars, toukiden...

If you're going to just reduce it to "hunting monsters" I think it's a bit too generic to call it a "MH ripoff", but maybe that's just me.

They can compete against other Monster Hunter groups/guilds. Or just have evil sentient beasts (or have them not be evil and do some allegory on animal intelligence/cruelty.)
Idk, there are loads of possibilities.

Also the Monster Hunter success as a game IP has nothing to do with success of a hypothetical manga IP.
And a new successful manga/anime IP could result in likely successful games.

A lot of us couldn't see Black Clover continuing after the big fight with Satan yet it has and feels fresher than ever.
Gotoge is a more skilled writer so I'm sure they'd be able to figure something if they choose to let the money talk.

If they wanted to go the JoJo route, have Tanjirou get killed off, and introduce another MC who can witness the memories of Tanjirou like he can for Yoriichi. Or just continue to let Yoriichi be the tie that continues through each MC switch.
This is incorrect. Black Clover had large plot threads saved for later such as the other three kingdoms and Yami's country etc. as well as MANY side plots leading to future developments.

Kimetsu is all but wrapped up.

Yeah, shonen gantz could be cool.

He also did this?

Has he done anything since that Kaiju miniseries?

yeah he did that on Plus, I don't think he did anything since his GIGA miniseries

which is a shame, I have been keeping taps on Shuuhei Tanizaki since his Noroi noroi no banpei one-shot

I vaguely remember a discussion about this couple years ago on here. Someone links a "i guess a correlation chart between Toriko TOC position and chapter that have The Squad vs A beast, rather than Human vs Human," and coincidentally enough, the human vs beast chapter rank lower than Human vs Human.

or maybe my memory is trolling me idk.

Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh, would you all want another series like it in WSJ?

Like, a card battling series that people in real life could play, etc. I mean, not existing card game, but made specifically from the series.
It's an enticing prospect but one which requires one to ask how possible it be.

YGO was a series build out of Kazuki Takahashi's love of tabletop games in general, Duel Monsters was basically just a modified Magic the Gathering that got the attention of readers. Doing another card game series that wasn't for merch would require an author who had a deep knowledge of how these games are designed and why people enjoy them, it likely struggle to believable otherwise.

Like, theoretically its possible, but the chances of finding another creator like Takahashi is pretty slim IMO.

Here's a question I want to bring up here since I've seen some people disagreeing with me on twitter about it, would you guys consider Yozakura a gag manga?

No I think he was just trying to put comedy to build some established fanbase incase people don't like the story

So, I have a request for whoever can help.

I take it this is Fujimoto drawing CSM. I'd like to know what the questions and answers are translated.

Also, one of the more famous anime/manga YouTubers said that he thinks CSM is the new Gintama, and I was wondering what you all think about that.

Which AniTuber is it? Because if it's someone like Fornever, it means absolutely nothing.

I don't like name-dropping AniTubers in this thread. It always spirals into negativity, even if said negativity is well deserved.

Still, I am curious if people see merit in that opinion by itself, regardless of who said it.

Yuji Kaku (Jigokuraku), since he was an assistant back on Fire Punch.
Oh, huh. I did notice a slight difference in the art. Well, that makes sense.

Shinhei also tweeted about Fire Punch, and said he hopes an anime could be made of it someday.
