Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Reading the last couple of posts, a thought had occured to me that I wanted to run by everyone.

KnY is definitely a great series, with good characters/fights, etc. However, would you say any of the characters in it are iconic?

20 years after the series is over, do you think people will still be talking about it or the characters? Does the series leave a lasting impression?
I'm not completely caught up with the series, and while none of them really stand out as my favorite Jump characters(not that they're bad), I could see it having a lasting impression to at least some people. It's too popular not to. It's kind of like how series are well received during their initial run, but they really get that classic/legendary status looking back on them later as a whole.

I don't think it's something we can actually answer. Which works of fiction will be forgotten or remembered in the future is a question that always gets surprising answers. I might say that, for me, Kimetsu won't have a lasting impact, but that's my bias because of my relationship with the series. Someone might say that Nezuko or Inosuke will be iconic characters considering their current popularity and fanbase, but it might just be a passing fad.

If I were to make a guess, though, I think the series and its characters will be well-remembered, but not at the level of some absolute classics.

Thinking about it more, it is kinda up in the air with what people will remember or not.

I mean, people are STILL talking about Psyren all these years later, and that series was never as big (unfortunately) as certain other series.

Personally, I'm not sure. Only time will tell. It is very likely, though, more so in Japan than anywhere else. I can see Kimetsu withstanding the test of time, especially with it blowing up the way it did. The Infinity Train movie's going to be a massive event, that's for sure, and a lot of it's characters will be remembered fondly. The series is ending soon, which might prove a bit of a problem, but ufotable will probably take the first half of the decade adapting the series in its entirety. Overseas, though... well, it has less of a shot, but I do think it can happen. Just as long as it's able to keep being in the public conscious. Memeable characters such as Inosuke and Nezuko are the easiest way to do that. Either way, IMO Kimetsu has the best chance to be remembered if it particularly strikes a chord with the younger audience. They'll grow up with the series and in time will use it as inspiration. The massive popularity in Japan does make this more likely, but again, this remains to be seen.

I was hanging out with my friend on Sunday, and we had went into an anime shop to buy his wife something KnY related.

Funny enough, we didn't see a single piece of merchandise in the entire store. As popular as the series is, we were both kinda shocked.

Maybe it was just that place, but anecdotally, that doesn't seem like a good sign. At least, here in Colorado.

Why? >_>

I wasn't asking whether it was necessary or not, though. That's a different debate entirely.
From what I remember reading in an article it's due to Inosuke headbutting a train (protests started over train fares IIRC?). Also Inosuke being a hothead fits well with protest Imagery I'd assume.

Quite different in japan. I even saw a bunch of game stores having KnY images on twitter lol.

I'm not that big on the series compared to others (though I very much enjoy it), but for me there's no question it will.

If I had to liken it to another series, it'd be the one from my avatar. Great sales, amazing anime adaptation, very popular non-MC characters (Hiei/Kurama | Nezuko/Inosuke). And I imagine KnY will have a better ending ( :emocat), so that's another big plus.

I think a lot of characters have very distinct and recognizable looks that they may become iconic based on character design a lot.
Tanjirou’s checkerboard green and black vest. As well as his scar.
Inosuke’s mask
Zenitsu’s hair and eyebrows.
Muzan being Michael Jackson.

On top of that, I think a lot of people genuinely love them as characters. If I can remember correctly we use to take notice that before there was even an anime announcement, fan art and ships were already huge within the fanbase. Showing that ppl loved the characters
I think the series becoming even bigger will add more fuel and validity to people’s love of the characters

No surprise but should expect an announcement for SO this year

Ive seen people say the trademark is fake. Regardless, I think we will see an announcement this year and maybe a release in fall 2020. David Pro has a trend of releasing the next part (or at least announcing it), roughly a year after the final BD/DVD of the recent animated part (part 5 in this case which had its final BD/DVD in Nov. 2019). At the very least, we'll get the announcement this year I believe.

I wonder if Masaoki Shindou gave up, Jumps holding him back, or if he’s just waiting to finish college

Flop 3:
1. KnY - I love this manga but the final fight has been more than just underwhelming.
It annoyed me how some of the main cast just jumped into this final battle considering how powerful Muzan is portrayed. I feel like an asspull is inevitable at this point.

Is the team on FF a different one? Or there's a lot of freelancers (and ex-Shaft, I hear)?

Not too familiar with DavidPro.

I remember reading that the ex-shaft members joined David Pro but not sure on that. The team on FF is a different one tho

Edit: Looks like a lot of shaft members moved over to David Pro

Yeah, then I can see an announcement late this year.
And man, hopefully any Shaft departures don't affect an eventual 3-gatsu S3.

They are there only to support and nothing more. It was expected for them to show up anyways.

His rebellious side somehow inspired them and take him as a symbol for their protest
