I think it's fair. More than one person expected good sales from Yaiba and Jump standards, sales, etc. are incomparable to other magazines.
Heh, ufo being in charge and judging on how the pvs looked like, definitely I was expecting a nice boost from it. A comfy 300k-350k.

Ever since KnY explosive popularity, yall throw some wild number about the next adaption selling 7x times it's current sales
JJK is selling like what 150k right now? If it manage to get 500k/volumes (x2.33 increase), yall should already be celebrating

There are only 3 series that manage to sell over 700k (either backlog or new volume) after the anime from 2010-2019. Haikyuu, My Hero, KnY

Man if Act Age sales land between 300k-400k i'll be jumping overjoy
I think there's an article from Oricon where they said that KnY sales during the anime were boosted by 5x. After the anime ended they were by 6x.

I can see act age reaching Neverland tier and jjk Boku no hero tier. Well, it will depend on the adaptation and that stuff and see if they can go beyond those numbers.

Gotta post to vote in polls? Understandable. I suppose I'll have to post, at least a little now. I read all the series in jump so voting every Sunday has been a fun experience in thinking about the magazine as a whole. Also, hello, everyone.
See, now I'm really liking this change, because I finally get to see the people who like stuff a lot say something.

This is a win-win situation. I want to hear all of what you guys have to say in regards to WSJ.

Ufotable is going to be in such ridiculously high demand now.

Please, anime gods, let Chainsaw Man land that studio. I'll forgive all past transgressions.
I think it's a bit hard to predict how Ufotable picks their work though, it's a bit of a different matter compared to other studios since ufo is usually on their own production commitee and have more freedom with what they want to pick up.

Ufo themselves asked for kimetsu as they got a recommendation from nasu and had fans of the series inside the studio IIRC, so if they like chainsaw then it could happen (definitely think Shueisha would just let them take whatever they fuck they ask for rn lol).

As for whether or not they "fit the series" I wouldn't worry because ufotable is just a really talented studio, I remember a lot of people saying the same thing about kimetsu an then they came up with a fairly different style that fit kimetsu perfectly and the breaths look absolutely stunning.

Seeing Kimetsu continue selling like hot cakes makes me wonder when will demand be finally satisfied?

I'd think 1'800,000 per volume is when we will stop seeing these crazy numbers and demand will finally be satisfied, at least for now, maybe when the movie releases it will get a boost and get to around 2'000,000 per volume.
Seeing how hard volume 18 is beating gotoubun on shoseki rn it's almost certainly going to hit 1.8mln next week or very close to it. I'm pretty sure the boost isn't going to stop next week, so yea, nah. It's definitely hitting 2m+.

As for how much the first print should be, it should be a 2 million first print. But they might choose to go for less than that and continue the strategy of starving the stores, so it's not really easy to predict.

Chainsawman with David is a good idea. As much as we all like Ufotable, they can't adapt all our favorite manga, and Jojo only needs part 6 and part 7 to be adapted (not counting 8) so in between Jojo they can make Chainsaw.

Whoever suggest Hatakeyama Mamoru for Act-age Director is a genius. Rakugo is a brilliant anime, I think he can cast a good seiyuu for the performance.
(too bad the sound director already passed away..)

Ufotable is going to be done with their fate work this year unless they adapt hollow ataraxia as well though. So now is a good time to hope for a series to be picked up by them.

I feel like Ufotable is going to become what Madhouse was years ago.

Where for literally every popular manga people always say “I really think this series would be perfect for Madhouse” when discussing what studio should get x series.

That and “why couldn’t Madhouse have done Dragon Ball Super?” Type stuff

Yeah, I have doubts about Ufotable is done with fate. And there's still a chance of non-fate Type Moon Adaptation, like Mahoyo.

Jujutsu by MAPPA is something I agree with. Maybe I should read the manga...

Honestly, I think Ufotable is gonna be tied between Fate and Demon Slayer because both series makes way too much money for them. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised (and I kind of hope) if they went back and redid the original Fate route after the Heaven’s Feel movies. And even then there’s other Fate content that they can do as well. It’s a really big franchise.
As for Demon Slayer, I can see it getting new content every year and selling tens of thousands of blu-rays in addition to everything else. It was really surprising that Demon Slayer was even being done by Ufotable in the first place, honestly. If you went back a year and month and told someone here what was gonna happen with the franchise, they would probably scoff and laugh at you. But here we are. And I’m betting that the production committee is doing absolutely everything in their power to keep this explosive momentum going all the way till the end.
So no, I wouldn’t expect them to adapt another Jump property. At least not now. I think Demon Slayer worked the best for them by far, though.

Madhouse doing DBS wouldn't change anything as it still would be long-running with the same terrible schedule that made the problems in pre-production to occur and that reflected on the anime, mainly on the animation department for the first episodes which only later on got better.

I think Madhouse could work. I don't think AA needs a lot of animation, but Madhouse can do good with the art and atmosphere. The studio that did Neverland would also be good.
lol no dude, Act Age would be one of the anime that would need the most on animation. And Character design. They need an excellent/great Animation Director and Character Designer to be part of the team for the adaptation for the anime to fully realize the series into the medium. Those would be the most important aspects, not counting series composition and series director of course, which it's obvious that need to be on the same level. But if not, those two first ones are extremely fundamental.

I would say Shaft, but since they're bleeding creative talent, I would go with any team containing ex-Shaft members. Mamoru Hatakeyama (Kaguya-sama and Rakugo Shinju) would be an especially good director.
Good thinking. So basically it would be A-1 if we go by from who's he working lately, as he worked with Deen for Rakugo 2-3 years ago, while with A-1 he worked last year and this year.

I, unironically, want Doga Kobo for Act Age, or atleast part of their regular staff to work on it. They are incredible when it comes to character acting and for a type of series that is AA, that aspect should be the one to bring it more to life. Of course the bad aspect of this is that the designs been more moe. (Also they are stucked with some... questionable series since a few years ago).

The thing is that ufotable is basically being contracted by Aniplex for the main series ie fate stay night and adapting Fate Zero LN. With other Fate they got their own subsidiaries (Cloverworks for Fate Apocrypha when they still were A-1, and now with Fate GO), Shaft with Fate Extra and Deen in the past with stay night and Troyca with Lord El-Melloi. So except for Deen and Troyca, basically all studios they work all the time like ufotable (Kimetsu, Fate, Kara no kyoukai) and Shaft (Monogatari, Madoka Magika) and their own subsidiaries with A-1 and Cloverworks. So if anything, future adaptations will be between those, with one or another studio being handled. And of course, I focus on Aniplex because they are always the biggest contributor for all Fate, along being the distributor of the anime and the publisher of the mobile game Fate GO.

So yeah, I expect ufotable to be going on in the future with Fate and Kimetsu, maybe with another series here and there, but those two franchises being their main works for this decade.

That would be great as well. Or a live-action.

Doga Kobo also would be a good option, yeah.

But one thing is that the designs are moe because the works they adapt are already moe with the original artstyle. It's basically just refined. With act-age that wouldn't be, even though I see Act-Age and other jump series as moe with their artstyle for female characters lol

Okay, so I've noticed something that I need to discuss with you all. For a while now, I've suspected that there might be vote campaigning going on with the MH ToC poll, but I haven't been able to confirm it until today.

Normally moderators aren't able to see who voted in a poll once the hide poll results option is selected, but osso gave me the permission to, which is usually only granted to global moderators and up.

So, now having the ability, I immediately started noticing a lot of questionable activity. By that I mean, I can see that there's a significant number of recently created accounts with no posts participating in the polls.

I bring this up because, I'm not sure what to do about this. This is a spoiler, and I apologize, but it's happening with multiple series, but I'm noticing it mostly with the two series tied for 1st, CSM and OP.

Both series have recently created no posts users voting for them, but OP seems to have more of them. Maybe they're just lurkers, but the fact they were all created in the later half of 2019 and/or within the last month has me a bit concerned.

Again, I don't know what we (or I) should do about this. That's why I'm consulting you guys. Should we ignore this and just let it be, or should we start disregarding votes?
I honestly mostly read the forum and participate quite rarely, so I don't know if you took into account my kind of account that not participate much but is still reading everything that is posted and also participate to the poll.
However my votes are mostly given for series that you didn't quote so I'm not quite sure that I was concerned by your post.
Hopefully you can figure out if there is anything wrong!

You guys are threatening my intention to be permanent lurker here haha. It's too much work for me to write a coherent thoughts.

If I have to talk, one thing that has been in the back of my mind is "rate of sales". Some series have great first week sales but weak legs, and others have an okay first week but better legs. Recent example is that JJK has better sales than BC in the first week but worse sales in the next two weeks (JJK might have stock problem, but let's ignore that first). What I want to do with analyzing "rate of sales" is that we might be able to identify what kind of fanbase each series has.

My hypothesis about rate of sales to identify the type of fanbase:
1. First week sales indicates the size of the core fanbase.
2. Subsequent week sales indicates the size of the casual fanbase.

My hypothesis about correlation of fanbase with sales:
1. Casual fanbase will be more likely to drop the series down the line.
2. So series with higher casual fanbase will be more susceptible to downward trend in sales later on.

This is still hypothesis so I might be wrong and I won't talk about it more since I don't have enough analysis. The thing is, I don't even know if this "rate of sales" will even be significant enough to look at. Do you guys think this might be an interesting thing to analyze on? If so, I might try to look at it. The series that I want to check first is Assasination Classroom, World Trigger, Black Clover, and Promised Neverland.
