Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

The premise behind Guardian of the Witch does make me think Shueisha thought "we need to be finding a replacement for The Promised Neverland soon".

Is it the infamous manga that got a doujin made by its mangaka?

What did I just read? Lmao
Btw it's always great when a jump series is fully translated. I wish Soul Catchers had the same luck...

Good take. I agree that the west complains more, but that doesn't mean that the Japanese can't feel the same way. There is often some correlation with western and Japanese fanbase. Bleach declined similarily in the west and MHA looks to be going in the same direction. Most of the popular series in the west are the same series that are popular in Japan.
Wanted to reply to this yesterday but I got SUPERRRR (Franky style) lazy...

It's more like series get popular in the west BECAUSE they are already super popular in Japan.
Western audience tend to not jump on a series unless its well known in Japan. JK isn't that popular in the west but watch that change when it gets the anime and starts selling 600k. The western audience will start jumping on that bandwagon.

Off topic but Kingdom was WYJ's premier series since almost the very start. WYJ always promoted it as their biggest and most important series. But western audience didn't care really because it didn't sell all that much. But now the series name is pretty well known in the west solely because of the fact that it sells almost a million a volume and jumping on that bandwagon is the cool thing to do.

The western audience for the most part only jump onto a series if its super popular. This doesn't apply to all readers obviously and there are some exceptions to series. There are many who branch out and try their own stuff.
But the majority in the west follow a series that becomes a mainstream success in Japan.

In hindsight and retrospect, it boggles me how this ever got past the editors... both the art and the writing are overall just terrible. Some decent ecchi shots can't be enough to convince the head editors...

It sold 18k copies in a month, better than a lot of the hyped flop series, if published now would probably be safe for a time

I figure 'getting past the editors' is not that hard. Jump's business model has always been pretty much throw everything at a wall and see what sticks.

It was axed before Vol 1 came out as far as I know. Though Jump would axe it even now if the mag readers hated it.

Here's a question.
A lot of the VA's do and have done roles in multiple Jump adaptations over the years.
Which VA has blown you away with their versatility between two roles or rather the variation between the two roles and how the VA pulled it off?

For me, I could not believe Ryotaro Okiayu voiced Toriko because I was so used to hearing him voice Byakuya. Going from a monotonous Byakuya to an expressive Toriko and pulling it off was surprising

It did 18k in a month? Guess the editors saw some potential in the ecchi market with it and were sorta right.

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka going from Souma in Food Wars to Inosuke in Kimetsu no Yaiba. It shows how talented he is.

Fukuyama Jun, he played both teenager and youkai Nura Rikuo, not to mention he also played Koro-sensei. Also, Kaji Yuuki who played Todoroki Shouto, Kozume Kenma, Mikumo Osamu and Kuga Terunori.

Hiro Shimono with Dabi in Boku no hero and Zenitsu in KnY

The old man is just really good at what he does.

Thats a bit contradictory since we talk all the time about "waiting for the sales of the first volume to judge", cases like Lady Justice or even Cross Account that sold 27k in a month (better than Act-Age vol 1) are more of bad luck and timing, Chainsaw Man for example was doing pretty meh in the rankings until volume 1 came out, Mitama seems like will be the case too, so in the current Jump that is struggling to find any newbie that sell at least 10k, i doubt that Nakano would throw away Lady Justice so fast doing 18k in a month
