Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I blame YouTube. There is a dearth of good, high-quality material covering manga on the platform.

Another question, do you guys think we need another huge-scale adventure manga like One Piece or Toriko?
I don't think need is the right word, but yes, I'm definitely up for that. I wonder if there will be series like that appearing after One Piece ends and there's more space, so to speak.

Well, you already know my answer to this, but yes. Absolutely, 100%, yes.

I think we need a really interesting premise, though. Sailing around the seas and hunting animals/ingredients is good, but for the next big adventure to succeed, it'll need something... more.
Maybe like a grave robbers manga? Robbing famous people's graves?

I think a fantasy world gone modern could be fun, as in your usual swords and sorcery kind of world except in the equivalent of our modern era (but magic powered stuff instead of electricity).

It's been tried a couple times before elsewhere but I haven't really seen a proper good one yet. HxH's got modern tech but not something like that, I mean like instead of having all of our technology or sci-fi stuff instead everything still runs on magic.

I think Black Clover wants to head into that direction soon so

And we have HxH.

I don't think anyone else can make ones as good as OP or Toriko so no.

I just read last weeks Yozokura chapter and I love the new muscle woman. Reminds me of Noi and Meroleona or Tsunade. Love strong muscles women. They are the best women 🥰😍😘

Well, you see, I felt like asking the question because of this Raymond Chandler quote I found:

“My theory was that readers just thought they cared nothing but the action; that really, although they didn't know it, they cared very little about the action. The things they really cared about, and that I cared about, were the creation of emotion through dialog and description. The things they remembered, that haunted them, were not for example that a man got killed, but that in the moment of his death he was trying to pick a paper clip off the polished surface of a desk, and it kept slipping away from him, so that there was a look of strain on his face and his mouth was half open in a kind of tormented grin, and the last thing in the world he thought about was death. He didn't even hear death knock on the door. That damn little paper clip kept slipping away from his fingers.”

Basically, what Chandler is saying in this letter he wrote is that he grew disillusioned with mystery novels as a genre because he realized that readers in reality never truly about the mysteries he wrote, but more the emotional connection they formed with them. And reading it, I was left with the thought, isn't the same apply to manga, at least nowadays? With the decline of magazines, it feels more and more like that connection is what builds readerships for manga over spectacle, and series which lack a "base" where they can rest tend to sacrifice that connection due to the amount of covering needed for everything else.

Just something I'm musing.

I'm kinda disappointed that Zipman is ranking so low. I thought the latest chapter was quite enjoyable, but seems like I'm in the minority there? Well, at least it placed in the middle of the official Jump-ranking, so the japanese audience probably liked it better.

Did not expect to see Mashle this high. Not that I didn't enjoy the chapter or anything. It was a bit funny, but I was expecting to like it more. Hoping that the next chapter works better for me with new characters and stuff.

Anyway, all the manga I voted are at least in the top 10 so that's cool. Wish Haikyuu was a bit higher tho, this arc has been SO good.
About Mashle, the manga was really well received, it was first place from the very start, in the opposite Chainsaw Man started really low, like only 2 votes above Samurai 8 for some days until started to rise, S8 ended up well tho

Also the number of votes this week was very low and we still had to discount 21 of them! really wish the next one will have more, i feel like a lot of users forgot or didn't wanted to vote.
Yeh mashle is something many can relate for watching shonen, espcially that he took inspiration of the most mainstream series that utilize great concepts of satire/gag/action. So people expect some high Hope's for this author, espcially that hes aware which is important

digital high 5 for my /fit/ brethren

there are dozens of us...DOZENS!!

I don't think anyone else can make ones as good as OP or Toriko so no.
why? there are newer adventure titles which are arguably better
Dungeon Meshi, Magi, Made in Abyss, Golden Kamuy...all doing the large scale adventure thing pretty well
you even have Dorohedoro avatar which is another great adventure manga that's not called OP and Toriko, and the same can be said for Hayashida's newer work Dai Dark

I'm kinda disappointed that Zipman is ranking so low. I thought the latest chapter was quite enjoyable, but seems like I'm in the minority there? Well, at least it placed in the middle of the official Jump-ranking, so the japanese audience probably liked it better.
first of all welcome to MH, the latest chapter as a continuation of the current ongoing arc which was not build up probably and therefore people weren't as invested
cool action scenes no doubt but there are very little meaning behind it as neither the world the characters and the conflict were fleshed out

the Japanese toc is based on chapters from 7 weeks ago

It's nothing outstanding as someone who reads shonen for an long ass time. It's just Ok,, and the mha resemblance is a hindrance
I agree with it's not doing anything outstanding part but disagree about MHA resemblance being a hindrance
if anything it helps it, as there are already a built-in fanbase in the magazine for this kinda of stuff

There’s nothing that resembles MHA except for the art style, and even then it’s more of a combination of Odas and Horikoshis

Based /fit/ bro.
Also where do you think we are? A circle of manga connoisseurs?
This is Weekly Shonen Jump Thread. No other manga exists outside this mangazine, and the greatest manga of all time is One Piece. Period.

I meant mangaka who would make some now. All the manga you mentioned are fairly old. I don't agree with magi but I agree with everything you said that are on par with toriko and op.

I hope the demographic for these polls is just slightly older than the actual target audience of children and preteens for black clover cuz if that's representative (it's not) that looks real bad

there's only 127 people in that poll, it's not all that much bigger/more representative than this site's poll
Yep. Though I surprised Mashle did somewhat poorly.

Baside magi, the rest of them are ongoing and, in my opinion, are billion times more interesting than op, also dropped toriko half way through, give me reason to pick it up again.

This video will probably explain why toriko is good better than I can
