Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Horikoshi himself also made a statement. The replies are a bit annoying

Technically he didn't apologize, but at the same time stated his awareness of the problem. All "taking sides" aside, that is not a well-planned approach in this kind of situation.

Imo in these kind of situation acknowledging you were wrong is good enough.

People begging for an apology or criticizing for not say “sorry” after the fact typically don’t care about an apology to begin with, and won’t be losing any sleep because you didn’t say sorry.

On top of that, the main fans begging for a “sorry” are English speakers. The Korean and Japanese speakers(including ones who were offended due to being part Korean or having Korean relatives) seem to be okay with his response

They're saying the connection to the whole WW2 thing was purely accidental, so it's less admitting wrongdoing and more just accepting the criticism.

Being good enough has nothing to do with what I was saying.

I'm saying that irrational-seeming demand-making, the loud minority of fans, once they hear the author say that he was wrong, but not fully get down on his knees and apologize - that will only fuel their anger more, since they are ENABLED. They have been told "yes you are right" but their dicks have not been sucked fully yet so they're left with intense blue balls.

Don't post profanity like this again, please. This is literally a general rule of this website.

Also, while you can express yourself freely, remember to avoid the use of swear words and cursing when possible.
I'm leaving your post intact so others (as well as you) see this warning as well.

Hi guys, was re-reading Bakuman until the part when they tell us that PCP can't get an anime Do you guys think this would have happened in real life? And have there been any real-life instances similar to this, when the content is too "realistic that it can be imitated by real children" ?

Correct me if i'm wrong, the kanji for Maruta are 丸 and 太 which means round and thick respectively. I believe Horikoshi was going for more of a physical description of the character instead of the whole "logs=human experiment" angle. It is probably a coincidence sadly a very problematic one this time

I dunno if you'd consider this fitting, but there is the deliquent boxing Jump manga Rokudenashi Blues which ran over 9 years and sold ~60 million copies, yet never received an anime series (though there were two anime movies and live-action stuff).

There's no way it was a coincidence. The character in the series experiments on people. Maruta is in reference to people being experimented on. Not just that, but it was literally an insult the Japanese used against victims to disparage them.

No, that's too strong of a connection to be coincidental. Look, I know you guys love Horikoshi and MHA. But there really isn't a defense for this.

That's just being racist. You get a say if you're educated in the subject, which he is not. That is the bottom line.
The ones who get to tell you if they are offended are the ones whose family or country were directly or indirectly affected by the incident.
Being "educated" on the matter does not give you an inside understanding of how someone or a race or a country feels towards something. You can probably assume its offending to a certain race but unless that particular group of people actually do feel and outright say they are offended, you'd just be making assumptions.

I'm not political in the slightest. But as an example - Trudeau's brown face incident. Not a single brown person I knew cared about it (literally went out of my way and asked most of my friends what their thoughts were) and we all accepted that he was in a costume of a brown character and wanted to look the part.
But white people and everyone else got offended on our behalf. The only brown ones who showed they were offended were the candidates politically running against him and their supporters. Every other layman brown person did not care.

Since we are talking about a mad scientist who experiments on humans, I would say that such a name is more than indicative.

Indeed this choice in the name already from an idea of the personality of the doctor

He is also a villain, therefore a negative character, and his name can push people to do research on it.

So ..... what's wrong?

Witch's Guardian was extremely bland and generic, bland characters, bland character designs, bland monster designs, bland backstory, bland story, bland powers, bland drama, bland conflict, bland fantasy city, bland goal, bland everything....
that's being said, this is just one chapter, let's see how it creates an identity for itself

Mashle's second chapter was hilarious, I was laughing pretty hard at Mash and Claud interactions
Lemon seems like an interesting addition to the cast, with Mash being OP and lacking emotions I think most of the development will comes from her character
also apart from the comedy this manga so far have hammering the "magic isn't that impressive if you're not an asshole" message pretty hard

UxU third chapters was between bad and not making sense
Andy killed the armor dude without hesitation but hesitated to kill the Chinese dude later?
they said because he didn't wanna do it a front of the girl, but he killed all their chasers in the first chapter in front of her
also i thought the girl offering to fuck Andy was part of her great plan to force the Chinese dude to look away and stop his power but nope, it was just a forced development so she can take off her shirt for cheap fanservice

Zipman continues to do whatever they were doing, based on the past 2 chapters (1 chapter 1 villain) they set up themselves for the princess tournament to continue for the next 2 chapters
I knew the brother wouldn't kill the ghosts dude, but if they did it would be the most memorable thing this manga have ever done

Agravity is doing the double bait & switch, small threat turns out to be a dangerous one, and I'm betting next chapter they will do another bait and switch with the intruder being silly

Mitama Security without Mitama was cool, Janca joined Rena reverse harem faster than I expected

Yozakura revealed Tayio mission, which didn't make sense either
didn't they already say the cat brother (forgot his name) was the disguise specialist? why did Tayio have to dress as a women???

S8 new 3 characters look promising I guess, Ryu being a key is most obvious WSJ plot twist since Tobi/Obito

It was definitely not coincidental and whether he had any ill intentions or not it doesn't really matter right now cause the damage has been done and the Korean and Chinese fandoms are rightfully hurt. Japan's relationship with other eastern/southeastern Asian countries is a very sensitive topic. They will keep asking for an apology until Horikoshi gives it to them and even then this has tainted the series's reputation in those countries.

I understand where you are coming from. The whole experimenting thing seems to point to a connection but without any definitive evidence such as the editor/mangaka explaining why they gave him the name , this whole thing will divulge into speculation and turn into a "he said, she said" argument that will blow over in 2 weeks till the next WSJ controversy comes around.

Really want Mashle to survive. Its scratching my itch that Saiki left.

Everyone should have a say, and the decision as to whose words should be given more weight is left for others to decide.
There is no "by default" such that your race means your opinion makes more sense.
In general of course more Koreans would know about this issue than Canadians for example. But stating that only Koreans get to have a say is simply eliminating any possibility for discourse. There is a possibly that a vocal minority of such an ethnic group can be WRONG about a specific part of their outrage - where it is directed, what they think is the cause of its perpetuation, etc. The answers to these questions are in part founded on knowledge and research (in which, of course, the opinions and beliefs of said ethnic groups is very valuable!), and cannot be wholly answered by the gut feelings of an ethnic group. In such a case deferring to the "basic position" of "They are [ethnic group] hence only they have the right to speak" goes against several principles of freedom and is racist in and of itself. That is undeniable.
This is now off-topic and I hope I've made you understand why your statement is dangerously exclusive and full of generalization.
