Honestly, now this depends more on them than him so there's nothing much he can do besides continuing his story. As Raf said, it's about waiting and seeing how this develops further.

I mean... China and its angry mob kinda went overboard with the whole hate campaign and basically canceling MHA.. It's just a name ffs..
But to me this looks like just some random bs Horikoshi made to maybe appease the Chinese mobs and hopefully get MHA to return to China, it's so obvious this wasn't a coincidence lol he should have admitted to it and said there was no ill will in naming it that.

(I mean, it's a bad guy, not like it's a hero or something..)

This reminds me of a rumor I read online about the abrupt ending of Hikaru No Go, and how it was caused because of Korea/China (Supposedly they didn't like how they had been portrayed in the last arc of the manga)... But who knows, those were only rumors I read online.

And there it is. An entire backlog has sold more dominated than any other manga for that week. Kimetsu is managing to surprise me every single week with how explosive it is.

Fucking hell, this series is gonna blow past 100 million. I’m going for broke. We should make a poll on where Kimetsu print will end up by the time the series ends, or the end of the year.

If he decided to end it, he would tell Jump six months ahead. Sorachi detailed that at the end of Gintama, how ending a series yourself goes.
And he failed it spectacularly

KNY 1 should cross its lifetime 2 million mark next week or the following one, with other volumes following suit. Is there a possibility that the backlog volumes will sell 2 million this fiscal year alone? Who knows. Nothing much to say on OP 95, still in a pretty bad situation considering previous volumes. SXF continues to be a smash hit and TPN 17 is exactly on par with the previous volume. HQ didn't even rank this week (once again, damn you KNY backlog).

That incident just shows how much power China has in the industry. If something similar happened for some western country with a bunch of people talking on twitter, I'm not sure this would happen.

I mean, China's crazy influence over media is well known. Disney literally adds scenes with Chinese actors in their Marvel movies just for the Chinese releases. Don't even get me started on how China is trying to push anti-Taiwan propaganda in their co-financed western films with minimal pushback.

Yeah, I’m sure part of the reason for this second apology was Shueisha silently watching in horror as one of their biggest international franchises quickly gets locked out of a massive demographic. Again, it makes me wonder how nobody at Shueisha caught this. They’ll probably be a lot more conscious about this moving forward, which I’m definitely all for.

Kimetsu no Yaiba light novels have 1.16 million copies in circulation. It's the fastest Jump j Books light novel series to cross the one million mark.

So, with the current situation with Kimetsu, what message do you guys think this'll send to Jump regarding what readers "want"?

This should have been the statement released since minute 0.
This is verbatim what the first comment was that just reiterated what was already stated and everything which was explained was stuff people had already figured days prior. Its not going to matter whether this was the first explanation or not because this was largely staged as a lench mob the moment the word came to attention to Korean readers.

Most definitely. If it had been attached to that statement about changing the character's name, the damage would have been way smaller right now. Now, it seems like a lot of people are skeptical to come back to the series or don't care about the apology at all. It's good that they reached out and apologized, but it's rather late.
Most companies would flat out don't even bother to respond to begin with let alone to overseas fans, look how Kodansha handled all the fascist accusations that were thrown at Attack On Titan? They did nothing, and how did Isayama responded? He didn't care. After the first statement the hate mob had less to do with Horikoshi's and Shuiesha's response and more of an excuse to throw hateful remarks. There;s no dealing with people like that and even after this it won't make a great deal of change so they were doomed to fail regardless of what they did.

Not really. This has less to do with them trying to make good with China and more to do with not wanted to be associated with war crimes. Truth be told they didn't even have to do this since the accusations came from people who read the series illegally to begin with. Essentially this is Shuiesha and Horikoshi wiping their slate clean of this controversy and if it continues it goes beyond them.

Yeah, I read that a good amount of the controversy from the JP side was that the critics were people reading the series illegally. Often through speedscans, go figure.

Nothing. This was a lightning in a bottom and shouldn't be taken as anything but. What makes a series appeal can be a number of reasons, you can make the best anime adaptation you want but it won't matter much if it doesn't click to viewers. Kimetsu was a domino effect that nobody could really predict and doing the exact same thing with the next adaptation will probably not have the same results.

BUT...if I can make a suggestion for the upcoming adaptation of Jujutsu Taisen a big reason I feel that Kimetsu clicked to viewers is because ufotable did a good job putting emphasis on the emotional aspects of the series that I don't feel the manga did well initially hence why it didn't find its audience from the beginning. It made the scenes that was adapted a lot stronger than the source of material which is something that can't be said about a lot of Jump adaptations unfortunately. MAPPA just doesn't have that sort of talent though and I fear that its going to be a fairly straight forwards adaptation as a whole like Dr. Stone but I hope to be wrong.
