Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Though I imagine there's no need for them to worry about that at this point, right?
The statement was made prior the boost became this crazy, no?

But Hiromu Arakawa and Rumiko Takahashi are two of the most prolific Shonen mangaka and are women. I think Shonen Magazine has a couple as well on some of their larger series so I don't see it being that big of an issue.

Arakawa's gender wasn't publicly disclosed for years. Hell, "Hiromu" is pseudonym, her real name is Hiromi.

Definitely wasn't this big, but it was about a week after episode 19 released.

I guess it makes sense to keep it private until years later (or as long as they can/want to). Like Rain pointed out with Arakawa.

Even Jujutsu doesn't feel like the typical JUMP ideals to me, it's specifically Bleach-like in style I'd say, with maybe a bit of investigative drama influence, which is a bit different from the whole 'friendship, effort, victory' historic slogan. Compare it to stuff like Zipman, Shinobi Squad, Higuma, Ne0, that felt like they were trying to be as typically JUMP as possible.

I wonder how much of it depends on the editor too, we know some get very involved in the manga and are a full co-writer, while others are mostly hands-off only stepping in when they really don't think an idea works or for minor dialogue changes and such.

I imagine a lot of it comes from kids growing up and wanting to make manga like their old favourites that fit a JUMP style, but I imagine some editors must be a bit pushier and want to change a maybe riskier idea or a distinctly non-jump-like scene into something more typical for the magazine.
Jujutsu feels like series like Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho.

And then you wind up with situations like Attack On Titan where the author refused to compromise their integrity and it wind up effecting nobody since China missed out on the biggest anime of the last decade due to their own polices.
The case of Attack On Titan is different, and it is definitely author intention to draw similar from WW2. Meanwhile, MHA is just a character name. (which make me blame this more on the editor and publisher side, they exist to prevent this type of situation).
Also, for some reason, it reminds me of the time One Piece changed Whitebeard flag due to Swastika. Meanwhile, Blade of Immortal has the protagonist have a swastika boldly on his outfit for the whole 19 year runs with simupub in English for 11 years (which every issues have a disclaimer of how swastika in this doesn't anti semitism blah blah). Maybe this means Kodansha has more integrity than Shueisha in which they don't alter the mangaka original artistic vision in pursuit of profit. Or maybe. they are totally different case, an important detail, plot point, artistic choice (Nazi imagery in Attack on Titans and Swastika in Blade of Immortal) versus a minor and changeable detail (like the flag in One Piece and the current shitshow).. There is nothing wrong with changing minor details to avoid being insensitive (and a chance to have more money).

I do think it is interesting that out of the last three series to stick, only Jujutsu really seems super like a "Jump manga" while Act-age and CSM don't really.
I think Act-Age, while doesn't have a familiar skin, is the most jump-like out of the trio.

I'd imagine it be more due to how...odd some otaku treat women. Paru Itagaki was once sent a bag of condoms.
Otaku, amirite. Disguting but totally within my expectation. At least those creepy fans haven't gone full Perfect Blue ... yet.

Dont sure about this. I mean many believed that Akutami was a woman but then he went and said "Sorry this is mistake. I am not a woman" In Gotouge case this was " Lets use gender neutral" Feel the difference as they say. Why would man hide the fact that he is writing shonen manga? But if she is she it might be to prevent readers from fear that shonen written by woman might not be very good.
Imaging thinking this when Arakawa exists.

About the poll, I read all series until S8 beside Yuuna and Haikyuu. Since S8, the only series among the newbie I have touched is Mitama.

In my opinion, those who create problems for the name of a character from a shonen (a manga for boys) have much more serious problems than this name will ever create.

If one has problems understanding the difference between reality and imagination, he should be helped, and the others should not be affected.

Furthermore, the matter foreshadows a problematic turning point, that is, the fact that now people's opinions on the internet and the fear of how they can ruin their image give them decision-making power over the works or careers of others (there are already cases, both outside and inside the anime and manga sector).

In practice it is the birth of a new type of censorship, which I personally find aberrant.

Today Horikoshi had to change the name of his character, a tomorrow they could cost him to change the plot. And all this is ridiculous.

They need to show some strength. Otherwise the situation will only get worse.

In my opinion, those who create problems for the name of a character from a shonen (a manga for boys) save much more serious problems than this name will ever create, it also annoys me that Shueisha and Horikoshi had to apologize, but apologize for what. ..

"Maruta" in Japanese today means piece of wood, enough, it's not that because 70-80 years ago it was used as a code name in monstrous experiments today it means something else, just as I find the controversies that arise when some swastika appears which is ignored the profound religious and cultural significance only because Hitler and followers have used it differently.

If one has problems understanding the difference between reality and imagination, he should be helped, and the others should not be affected.

Hey, you know what this isn't?

A logical and sound argument.

You know what this is?

Batshit conspiracy theories about the "SJW menace".

That raises a question, with Jump's hits since the beginning of the 2010s having drifted away more and more from the "idea" of a Jump manga, what even is a Jump series nowadays? Besides the obvious answer of a manga published in Weekly Shonen Jump.

I mean shit man the decade before had a manga in which the main character was an insane serial killer with a god complex compared to a melancholy girl who's a talented actress and a coarse horny teenager that can turn to a monster I'll say they started drifting from the standard formula way before that. :3c

Shueisha added Undead Unluck Volume 1 to the April releases, so it's now Yozakura, Agravity Boys, Zipman and UU in the same month.

Oh, interesting. Guess I'll be doing more Amazon tracking than I counted on soon.

Seriously where is the kimetsu no yaiba game I've been waiting for. One of the most prolific manga of the 2010s and no money grubbing producer/executive has ordered a game. So disappointed in capitalism.

I mean kimetsu seems like it was designed for a game. All the moves used all have specific names and movements. The characters all use different fighting styles that can be translated easily to video game format (shinobu is a fragile speedster, tanjiro's special move is a head butt, Zenitsu is a (very dangerous) one trick pony)

Sooner than expected, UxU will have like 11 chapters at the start of april. Will they start release the first volumes earlier?

Hate to say it to you, but Kimetsu doesn't exactly have the longest lifespan in the magazine. That's why.

First volumes typically have a shorter amount of chapters (7 to be more exact) because the first chapter equals 3 normal chapters and the two subsequent chapters have additional pages. Releasing the first volume 4 months after serialization is the common practice, especially for the first series of a round of serialization.

Kimetsu only just recently exploded in popularity. I’m sure many companies in Japan want a licensing contract to make content to ride the enormous franchise wave, but that takes time.

Here's a fun little detail - write it out as "Volume Number x 10 - Volume Number - 2". Unless the series has shifted to shorter chapters, it allows you to figure out exactly where a specific volume is.

I mean MHA had a game release prepared within the first few months of its first season two if you count the arcade game which was released around the same time. Even series that had an unexpected surge in popularity like Attack On Titan had a cheap 3DS game release by the year's end. Unless they want to do something more than a cheap fighter feels weird that they haven't capitalized on it yet.
