It's funny you say this, because I remember WT used to have character descriptions at the end of the volume. Descriptions of the guys were fine, but descriptions of the girls usually started with "An A-cup who...", which is about as objectifying as it gets.
Looks like only the operators, but oof.

Also, alrighty then.

Seems like at least someone is trying to push Mitama...
Seems goods are the prizes for the initial campaign that was launched for the series, the fanart one. We'll see how it does.

WSJ clearly has plans for Mitama at least, so it won't be ending for at least a few months yet.

How did Spring Weapon's vol 1 do by comparison? I remember that was remarkably low considering how long it ran for.

It's weird that Yozakura's actually doing decently but I guess it has managed to consistently rank above Samurai 8 which nothing else from last year could do (and Zipman's already dropped down there).

I don't think we're basically having a single axe soon. Even if there's series ending, there's still enough time for them to last until May if anything, and the 3 newbies we have still need to develop and perform in order to see what stays and whatnot, and then release a new round.

It's kind of odd seeing Kimetsu becoming one of their biggest hits ever, yet they're struggling to get any new series to get even okay popularity despite half the magazine being empty of hits.

Perhaps Kimetsu taking up so much attention that new series are struggling to draw much as a result?

20,942,146 to be precise, so basically 21mln in 3 months so far.

1. ONE PIECE - 37.996.373 (2011)
2. ONE PIECE - 32.343.809 (2010)
3. ONE PIECE - 23.464.866 (2012)
4. Kimetsu no yaiba - 20,942,146 (2020, 12 weeks)
5. ONE PIECE - 18.151.599 (2013)
6. Attack on Titan - 15.933.801 (2013)
That means KnY needs 17 million sales to surpass OP 2011 numbers. We have 40 weeks left until Oricon 2020 fiscal year is over. So KnY needs an average of 425k sales per week until the last week of Oricon fiscal year!

Given there's gonna be 2 or 3 more volumes to come and a movie later in 2020, it looks realistic to say KnY will surpass OP record because there will be big anticipation prior to the release of each volume.

SW1 did about 10K total. So worse.

I mean, we have WNL, Kimetsu, Neverland, Yuuna, all their endings lining up in the span of, what, two-three months? God knows when the axe is going to happen, though I doubt Zipman is long for the world. And we still need to axe Samurai 8.

It's kind of odd seeing Kimetsu becoming one of their biggest hits ever, yet they're struggling to get any new series to get even okay popularity despite half the magazine being empty of hits.

Ooooor maybe it's because the series launched were judged by readers as not being very good. It's not like I can name much of anything which was very deserving of sticking. Taisei, Beast, Shinobi all deserved their fates.

When that happens, the OP fandom will lose their minds.

Yes it did, from February 11th 10:00 AM GMT+1 to February 11th 4:00 PM GMT+1 Dr. STONE went from 165604 to 165087.
Strange. That must have been one of those minor fluctuations you see all the time then. Or maybe Dr Stone got a small surge in views back on Jan 6th even though it didn't have a chapter out. The other WSJ series went down by thousands.

(Btw, did you take note just before or just after 4 PM? Because M+ only updates their views once per hour now (on the hour), so it's the same number from 3.01 to 4.00 PM and then it suddenly jumps.)

It is very weird though that minor adjustments seem to happen during the day, but the big drops took place all at once. We'll have to see if there's a mass plummet again this evening (most likely just after 4 PM GMT+1, since that's when the chapters were published).

EDIT:
Scratch that. No minor adjustments happen during the day. I just compared every single series and all of them either went up or stayed the same since yesterday evening, that can't be a coincidence.

I'm convinced now that they only remove older views once a day, at 4 PM GMT+1. Yesterday the views from Jan 6th got scrapped (read: the views that came in between Jan 6th 4 PM and Jan 7th 4 PM, most probably), so all series that had a chapter out that day dropped a lot (and Dr Stone dropped a little, but no more than on an average day).

Today, we should see a drop in views for the same series as yesterday (second day still has high numbers, usually), as well as Heart Gear, but not for Sa-chan which was on break on the 7th.

Since people keep referencing the numbers I've posted, I feel like I should say this again. Those numbers are estimates of estimates and can be very different from Oricon. In fact, shoseki estimates matching to Oricon numbers is a rarer occurrence. To give you an example:
Title # - Shoseki Estimates / Oricon Numbers %
Saotome Shimai Ha Manga no Tame Nara! #5 - 14.9k | 18,338 (05) +%23
Major no Kaiga-shuu #5 - 9.2k (6d) | 11,126 (06) +%21
Act Age #1 - 13.9k (5d) | 11,622 (05) -%17
Samurai 8 #1 - 17.9k (3d) | 12,728 (03) -%29

With this in mind, estimates I have for Mitama and others:
Spring Weapon v1
#254 - 4.1k (3d) | 4.1k (3d)
#237 - 3.9k (7d) | 8.1k (10d)

Mitama Security v1
#182 - 5.0k (6d) | 5.0k (6d)

Shishunki Renaissance! David-kun v1
#303 - 3.7k (3d) | 3.7k (3d)
#258 - 3.2k (7d) | 6.9k (10d)

So according to these numbers, Mitama Security did slightly worse than Spring Weapon No.1 and on par with David-kun. But, in actual sales, it could be higher than Spring Weapon No.1 or it could be way lower than those numbers indicated. Until we have more reliable numbers there's no way to know and we won't have more reliable numbers.

Regardless of what shoseki tells you, there's one thing certain and that's Mitama probably couldn't make the Oricon Top 100 with 6 days of sales. That could mean two things: It could be already dead or it could be dead if the second volume also doesn't make the Oricon Top 100 list. Because, regardless of how 2019 titles did, not even making Top 100 list is not a good thing for Jump.

Yonkou not leaking the WSJ cover because he doesn't care about Act-age is a little sad. I hope to be wrong though

Why?

Yes, Kimetsu no Yaiba success and sales are AMAZING but I think a lot of people underestimates all One Piece has done in the last 10-12 years.

I think Kimetsu no Yaiba 2020 sales will surpass One Piece 2011 record (probably Kimetsu sales will be over 40 million copies in 2020) but we must see it in perspective.

Do you remember One Piece's situation in 2011? One Piece had a backlog of 60 Volumes and 200,000,000 copies printed. I mean, One Piece sold almost 38,000,000 copies with a huge consolidated fandom and a huge backlog, and even in that situation, One Piece could gain a lot a new readers in those years (2010-2011-2012) thanks to Strong World Film and Marineford arc in Anime.

Kimetsu no Yaiba situation was very diferent. When boost started last year, Kimetsu had a backlog of 14-15 Volumes and a very modest sales. Thanks to the Anime popularity and social networks impact, a lot of new readers arrived and bought all Volumes to catch up with the story (that's why all Kimetsu Volumes has similar total sales).

I don't know what do you think about it but for me, even when both cases are AMAZING, I think it's more "easy" get an extended boost for a few months/years in Kimetsu situation (or Shingeki no Kyojin, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist... in the past) that in One Piece situation. I mean, for a new reader it's much more easy start a new Manga with only 15-20 Volumes on sale that another one with 50-60 Volumes :XD

@redon what would you think about the Hero Academia situation in that comparison you did? I mean, Hero Academia was supposed to be (or is still) the main manga in Jump roster (without counting One Piece, of course).

This is absolutely true, but the parts of the fanbases that are extreme enough to openly flame about sales of all things aren't going to use logic. On either side.

I think My Hero Academia is more a "goblal success" for Shueisha and Kimetsu no Yaiba is still a "local success" for them. At least for now, let see what will happen in 2020 and 2021 (especially when will Kimetsu no Yaiba end).

It's true. It's why OP and Kingdom's respective growths despite being 30-40+ volumes in was remarkable. Getting new readers to invest so much time to catch up on so many chapters is a daunting thing to ask.

KNY's backlogs also were so big because of how tiny it's pre-anime sales were in comparison.

But yeah, everything about KNY's growth is amazing, remarkable and a 100 other things.

@redon what would you think about the Hero Academia situation in that comparison you did? I mean, Hero Academia was supposed to be (or is still) the main manga in Jump roster (without counting One Piece, of course).
MHA will probably the series WSJ leans back on aside from OP once KNY and TPN end. So it'll still be one of their premier series.
This is assuming it doesn't decline in the next year or two.
