Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

But didn't snk s1 skyrocket the manga as well? Despite its mess and that stuff.
Yes, which is why a good adaption isn't all you need for a big boost, look at 5toubun and Fire Force for example, 5toubun adaption was way below average compared to Fire Force yet FF's boost pales in comparison

I'll always bring Tokyo ghoul as an example, despite its horrendous adaptation, it managed to boost its manga sales.
Yeah thats my point it's adaptation was far from great but it still increased sales beyond anyone's expectations. Whereas Haikyuu had the best adaptation of a Jump manga and it's sales never reached this height.

I wouldn't worry too much about BC and MHA missing an issue
their authors always go on a break before having to draw the cover and lead color

and if I'm not mistaken both series anniversaries are coming up soon so I'm pretty sure they're getting covers soon

Isn’t MHA’s anniversary in July, though? I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I’m guessing that Hori’s gonna draw a cover to promote both the current arc and the anime.

He usually takes a break before or after finishing a color page for an issue. We'll see if MHA gets one when it returns.

oops, you're right, it's in July
I'm still predicting a cover/color pages is coming up, it could be to promote both the current arc and the anime, and may simply be for the release of the new volume too

The point is an anime doesn't need to have an incredible quality to increase manga sales.

An anime will usually increase sales of a manga at some level (although this varies), since this allows the story to go to a new audience.

If this gets the attention of a large number of new audiemcia, that will depend on different factors.

I mean, the notion of quality is subjective, so, what we can agree SnK's anime was... is that it exploded. It was even more of a huge deal than Kimetsu, everyone went nuts for it. So, in that sense, it was a great adaptation, and it being extremely popular helped the manga a lot. I'm not saying "oh, Kimetsu only got there because it got a good anime", but I think you are underestimating Shingeki's a little bit.

You guys love to do these adaptations comparisons, but this will never take away the fact Yaiba wouldn't probably achieve half of what is doing if it wasn't for Ufotable fantastic adaptation and that episode 19 that was the big turning point in sales and popularity, we can be here talking all day about how a anime doesnt need to have an "incredible quality" but the truth is that Yaiba was only able to achieve and reach this level of audience and popularity be on Japan or western because the amazing anime done by Ufotable, it would never do this with a average anime by Toei or Pierrot.

Tbf you can say this for almost every series, the crew at Ufotable/Aniplex deserve alot of credit for putting together a talented seiyuu cast and a group of talented animators, but I think alot of people arent giving Gotouge enough credit for the source material, the anime ended several months ago yet the manga sales aren't slowing down

It's like people want to constantly ignore all the great adaptations that came before and after Kimetsu because it destroys that narrative they still have. Hell Attack On Titan being #2 disproves that notion since it's first season was an absolute mess. There's just some things that can't easily be explained and this is one of those situations.
No. DS's boost happened because of the anime. End of

Are you going to finish that thought, lol. Anyway, the anime was a big help, but all it did was propel the series into the mainstream. The anime alone can't explain the freakish growth and longevity it's going through now. If a series' success was exclusively based off a flashy, well-produced anime, we would have a lot more million sellers!

It’s not so much that people deny that Ufotable played a huge role in Demon Slayer’s success.
It’s more so that, that same luck doesn’t happen for everything.

Chainsaw Man could get the same level of quality in an adaptation from Ufotable, and lightning may not strike twice.
Usually a Fire anime almost definitely plays a role in a series’ success.
But a Fire anime almost never catapults a series into being such a success that it’s dethroning One Piece

Hit the nail on the head! If it was only the anime adaptation people cared about they’d buy the dvds and wait for a second season
