Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Rather than that.
I'd like to see an esports series.
Still would follow basic structure of a spokon, but the team are basically "transported" to these different worlds when their in their competitions. Not really transported in reality but we see the characters instead of their in game avatars allow them to do all sorts of different genres.

In between matches we have real world drama stuff.
The problem is the author would have the added burden of creating a game complex and coherent enough that it could work on the same level as an actual sport, because if it's not some REALLY well thought out shit, the cracks are going to start appearing almost instantly.

On paper it could work and be some really cool stuff (akin to how YGO was I suppose), but yeah, it's pretty hard.

Sounds like you guys want for Komi to come back and serialize E no Genten XD
Would be cool tho, NGL. An esports manga will definitely feel fresh

I don't think yuuna going to have another 40 chapters of shenanigans, it doesn't have 250,000 first print cushion anymore. The last volume it has 100,000 copies first print. I also think Jump not gonna axed it right away, gather give him 3-6 months notice to wrap it up (12-24 chapters)

This year could be similar to 2016, where multiple series end at once

Something more realistic. Not a harem, not focused on comedy.
It seems unlikely that it wouldn't focus on comedy seeing as the label WSJ uses for it's romance genre series is literally "Love Comedy".

Oh yeah, the novels have something ridicolous like 380k each for 2020 by the way (most sold novel in 2019 was 511k btw). The end of the year and mid year oricon charts are going to be absurd to read with kimetsu topping both novels and manga by such a big difference.

World Trigger is kinda like a VR e-sports manga, they get transported into a virtual world to have team battles for points.
Oi we already talked about this. That's not what WT is about at all. It's not a sports manga it's a battle manga. The team battle thing won't even talk up to 30% if the story if it ever finishes

Guardian of the Witch preview text:

"A heated battle, a conclusion, and then plunging straight into a new story development!! An expanded 23 page chapter!!"
New story development sounds nice... but if it's something like "and here we see a second village!", I'm officially giving up.

Well, confirmed then.
... This reminds me of that time when Toriyama said he intended on 'probably continuing it for just a little bit more.'

That was after the battle against Piccolo.

Dunno how entirely vital this info is, but Agravity Boy Vol 1 actually broke through the Top 10000 today for a bit, which is something I've virtually never seen for a Vol 1 that's still almost a month away from release. It and Undead's ranks have been quite impressive in general thus far as well.

Oh, I forgot to add that to my previous post: if there's one romcom that should have a harem ending, that romcom is Yuuna. I just hope the author actually does that. It was already suggested by characters in-universe!

Or he could just use the base and rules of existing games but change the name.
They could have an arc in a scifi shooter, an arc in a fantasy moba, an arc in baseball game, a flight combat game, etc. etc. Not that hard,
Throw in other teams of boys they're competing with.
Almost writes itself.

There may have been a discussion, but it doesn't make you right. Many people see World Trigger as a sports manga.
Regardless, seems like a silly thing to argue about. Clearly the series tries to do both. Who cares if it's more of one than the other.

Eh I dunno, continously changing games doesn't sound like a good idea at all especially if you're going for a spokon-like structure.

Ok. Wasn't trying to argue but ok
"Oi we already talked about this. That's not what WT is about at all. It's not a sports manga it's a battle manga"
You're deliberately shutting down opposition with this. It's bait for anybody who thinks differently. It's absolutely trying to start an argument.

The story could be about a team of protagonists who strive to be the best esports team. Each player can be the best at a certain skill and therefore for that individual game that requires the skill, that player can be the captain of the team. Shifting captains, team dynamics and settings would make it really hard to go stale (if done right)

Think greed island but every arc will revolve around a sport like the volleyball match.

You just made me think what if someone made an actual esports manga in jump. Like one where they play moba games like league of legends for example. Wonder if that would be interesting to read. No VR or isekai stuff. Just actually playing games
