It was stated prior to CSM serializing that the "top brass" (or was it big wig?) in WSJ literally told Fujimoto to do whatever he wanted.

That in turn led to CSM.

I did always guess that his editor is more about adding additional inspiration, than actually restraining him.

There's also, among others, the super interesting one about Act-Age. And one about Samurai 8, that honestly reads like either being very respectful/polite OR full of shit, however you wanna call it, lol.

Why? Do you think newbie editors getting a newbie author would be any better?

Newbie authors need an experienced editor with a calm steering hand. Newbie editors get trained by being assigned to veteran authors, who can maintain some level of certainty. That's not to say newbie editors just keep quiet and do nothing because the mangaka is famous.

You also have to realize that mangaka also often appreciate input and feedback from their editors. Not everything an editor says and suggests is already executive meddling and met with complete disapproval from a mangaka.

pretty much this. A good writer (in any medium) knows when to accept suggestions/criticism. The editors aren't going to make dumb suggestions like "give Haikyu a 50+ chapter arc where Kageyama and Hinata get really heavy into a fantasy MMO". It's their job to try and make the series successful.

It's the right way to do it.
You don't throw in newbies together. You team them up with experienced people to help train them.

Veteran mangaka returning to a magazine usually also implies (albeit not 100% guaranteed) they have a good standing with the magazine and the editors. So the chances are that veterans won't be pushy and will actually try to help the newbie editors while accepting feedback from a newer perspective from the newbie editor.

In the end both Mitama and S8 sold better than what i expected, S8 kept the same level of v3 (18k in 9 days) and Mitama same too having 1 day less than v1

This worries me a bit as well but tbf 1k copies is basically considerable fluctuation, I was expecting it to grow tho

Its not 1k, more like a ~400 copy difference, hardly even a 1% drop. Nothing considerable and it could possibly get back up. Let's see how it does in the coming weeks and I'm expecting it to grow as well.

It depends on the mangaka. Some thrive with editor input (Kishi) while others thrive without it (Fujimoto).

Overall, I do agree that editors are valuable commodities.

Because personally I see it like this: Fujimoto must be working very closely with his editor to make such a structured story this time compared to Fire Punch.

Personally, I think you should refrain from "generalizing". This is your opinion and while some may share it, not everyone does. What makes a "good series" is subjective to a point. Also, Labeling it a "failure" when you don't have all factors to base that on is erroneous. Say that after you have all reported figures because regardless of what your opinion on it's state outside of Japan may be, it's almost consistently highly rated. Far from not being a "Good Series".

That's not to it's without faults and fell far from expectations, but you really shouldn't generalize...but that's just my opinion.

I'm not generalizing anything or even saying anything about its quality. I didn't even think about the manga itself but about its sales. It's literally a failure, there's no argument around it.

Was randomly browsing Murata's twitter, and saw him retweet this show that two assistants started recently:

One has been an assistant on Rookies, Shaman King, Naruto, and Death Note (the one with the headwear). I thought I recognized the other, and yup, one of Togashi's assistants, maybe since the beginning of HxH. You can see him here in the Jump Ryu video. And it looks like he put this together for his 50th birthday back in 2016.

As for Murata, I can't tell 100%, but it seems they'll be having him on soon?

Unlikely given the interviews we've seen involving him, unless his craziness is emphasized only as advertisement. In addition it was said Rin let Fujimoto go wild with Fire Punch and now that they are in the main magazine, I theorized that Rin would have more control over the story's structure. That's the logic behind my reasoning.

God, I think Yuuna is probably going to be stalling a couple weeks by focusing on one girl per chapter, but for once I am all for it. It’s honestly the best the series has been since... well, the first time we got a glimpse into a girl’s future with the MC.

I should catch up on the 5 newest serializations, since I want to vote in the poll again. Not sure where to start, though.

UxU easily beats the other 4 in my eyes after last chapter, so I'd probably recommend it over the others.

Although I agree with the practice, I don’t think it’s too far fetched to assume that a new editor would be hesitant to say much to someone who is one of the most successful manga artist of all time.
