I could see Gotoge writing some one shots in the next coupe of years before trying another series, if its on Jump its another question, tho if they come back hopefully their next series doesnt tank

PD: I want some of the stuff Fujimoto is smoking too lol

Gotoge is apparently a Mashima-tier worker, so that's something to take into account.
Do you mean the number of hours Gotoge puts into drawing or the speed at which he/she is able to draw?

Mashima is still on another tier. He did pump out double chapters during FT serialization iirc
Yeah, I hated FT but there's no denying the amount of hours and speed Mashima put into drawing manga.
I'll be surprised if there are any current gen mangaka like him.

I came across KNY spoilers on twitter and my heart ain’t ready.

But it gave me a question - say KNY ends this year, how long do you think it will be before Gotouge makes a new series?
Who knows, one thing I will say though is that if Gotouge does come back I expect it to be a different genre.

Both, probably. Appearently Gotouge is very fast but it is also true that the croc has never taken a break even once throughout Kimetsu's serialization.

Also, CSM's chapter is crazy, goddamn.

Wasn't Gotouge one of the authors that has said they would've left the industry if their series had gotten cancelled? I'm sure I remember that from somewhere.

So who knows, maybe Gotouge only got into the industry to do Kimetsu no Yaiba and will just stop and 'retire' after it's done. I'm sure there must have been creators like that before, who do one series then leave satisfied, not really having any other plans.

the K-On author (at least until K-On Shuffle started but that was years later) only had K-On and based on their author comments in the volumes just wanted to spread love for musical instruments. Obvious that wouldn't be the exact case for Demon Slayer but it shows it has happened.

I think the editor said it in the mangaplus interview.

He published 6 chapters in 2 weeks once. Mashima is drawing machine.

Mashima & Araki are true definitions of drawing machines and have incredible work ethic. Arguably Oda too, even with his breaks (understandable with how more expansive and thought out his series is compared to others). I remember reading he was drawing even when he was hospitalized and Kishi got shooked lmao.

You're right. It was mentioned in the Katayama interview.

Wani should serialize a Seinen next once she gets the itch for another long serial. She has the capability to write something better than Kimetsu imo.

Hopefully not a battle shonen. I think something like a slice of life series would be nice.

Actually, Gotouge planned to give up in case Kimetsu never got serialized, probably because of being rejected several times before this (and I remember the other editor talking that art was a huge barrier in landing a serialization)

Luckily for us, Japan and Shueisha, that never happened.

with this and Attack on Titan it makes you wonder how many series/authors got rejected and the author gave up that could have been huge hits

I feel like Gotouge will definitely come back to Jump. I’ll probably read and follow it regardless of what genre his/her future series is.
Although I kinda just hope her next series is a little, well, happier. Love Kimetsu and how crushing it, but my heart can’t take another series filled with despair and death

You know, sometimes I wonder how differently a WSJ version of Fire Punch would play out.

Nice? More like PERFECT. If we can get a long SOL/Comedy series by Gotouge full of expressions like in Kimetsu it would be so cool.
A slice of life with that art? Pfft. That's a no thanks from me, even though no one asked 🙃🤷🏾‍♂️

That's very true, but have you actually read Fire Punch? A lot of it's content is... dark, for lack of a better word. Chainsaw Man gets away with a lot, but Fire Punch is almost a hundred times more upsetting in certain places, not something that could exist in a children's magazine without heavy changes to the story. Jump+ was the perfect place for it. Fujimoto probably had a lot more freedom due to the looser content restrictions. That's the reason Fire Punch is what it is.
