Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Is this the longest boost in recent years? I think this boost is almost 1 year old already.
I remember the recent Slam Dunk re-release took up a lot of the top 50 but I think it was only for a few weeks?

Oricon has been really boring to look at with so much Kimetsu. It's impressive, but boring.
100% this, not to mention all the dozens of mangas that or get kicked out of the top 50 earlier or not even appear in it because of the backlog, i don't even think it's impressive anymore, just boring.

The lack of the top100 makes it worse. We had much more information for longer with it. Oh well.
Yup, as ridicolous as this is it's taking so much "info" away from everything else it's not even funny.

Getting antsy to see how Yozakura, Agravity and Undead do on shoseki this coming week, I'll be quite sad if any of the three do poorly.
I fear that Yozakura is going to do a bit worse since many of the chapters in volume 2 weren't nearly as good as the ones in volume 1 or the ones that'll be in volume 3. That could hurt it quite a bit this time around. I'm pretty surprised Undead didn't get another CP before its first volume came out. I thought it was basically all but guaranteed one.

Reaction to finding out he's not getting the ax (please)?

Mitama's digital sales might've been good we never know.

The great wall of Kimetsu is only going to make it harder to determine the success (or the lack of) of new series . What could have been No. 15 is now No. 30, etc.

Sharing this article I found.

Quick summary:
-KnY novels have sold over 1 million copies (the fastest novel to reach this numbers from Jump J books)
-They said before 2005, they had red/low numbers.
-D gray man novel (dunno which one of them) saved them.
-Also its pretty normal to get novels based on popular manga, but it's pretty difficult for them to reach 100,000 copies sold.
-They said that they had a very low record in sales, to the point that they wouldn't place the novels next to the manga volumes.
-Now after KnY novel's success, they would place them next to manga volumes (this means that with this success, they have now regained their trust over other works).
-This department that is in charge of the novels, works together with the mangaka:
  1. There are two groups: the editors + mangaka and the editors + the novelist. Both editors are in contact, and the ideas that the mangaka have that can't be added into the main story because it can ruin the pacing and that sort of things, those ideas are taken by the editor's novelist and with that, the novelist will start working on them.
-They said they had this losing streak with the novels because they weren't "Canon" and they didn't include illustrations from the mangaka that would attract the readers.
-Now with this new system, they look for the novelist to be fan of the work, in order to deliver an accurate work.
-They take the mangaka's own ideas that couldn't use in the main story, and this way they are motivated to draw some scenes that would have loved to include but they couldn't.

I hope you find this interesting.

What's the timeline here? Because generally the novels since Haikyu or so have had covers and illustrations by the creators.

What do they mean having no sales

It only mentions that novel from D gray man, they started to use the mangaka illustrations (specially for the cover) so after this they began to raise the sales but not to the extent of selling 100,000 copies.

(I fixed the part where I said since 2005,but it's before 2005 when they were having low sales so that's why D gray man saved them after its release).

It does not necessarily means 0 sales, they might have sold to 1k to 5k in that period before 2005 (anyways there's no data for that i guess)

well, the 40th anniversary video last year was a slide show, which tells me Toei still have the rights

and with OP, Dragon Quest, Digimon, HG Precure, World Trigger all happening and the possibility of even more DBZ and Kitaro content I doubt they will go back to Kinnikuman any time soon
but hey! they're a giant studio so who knows?

it'd be hilarious if they ignore DBZ fandom yet again to prioritize doing this

and speaking of Digimon I really hope we get a new manga to go with the anime, doesn't need to be an anime tie-in, something like what V-Tamers is to the original anime will be really cool
c'mon V Jump just do it

I think shoseki made a mistake here, lol

Should probably be 4/2 considering it's missing from the list (and that the day isn't even over) but I got a bit confused for a second there. Good day 0 debut for OP, I guess

3 weeks of Haikyuu solely because Kimetsu's hogging too many spots. Imagine if Kimetsu was a 50 volume series. This thread would've been...something.

Now I'm curious for the digital lol.

I answered his tweet, but since it was firstly stated in Oricon that 40M included series and digital right when it was announced, what the text says (I think) is that physical number has grown up to more than 40M copies without needing digital to achieve that goal. Which is honestly an insane growth in the span of time those two questions may have been made lmao.

Physical sales alone are past 50M right now. Does Oricon even track digital at all?

They sure are, that's why I'm really curious about what Volume 20 reveals. And afaik, nope, Oricon doesn't track digital.
