I recall Naruto being 1.8 at 23 volumes, or something like that
Didnt it sell that much while the American manga publishing was going down the shitter? Not sure if that makes it a lot more impressive, or if everyone just prioritized the most popular series.
Should I have faith and believe?
What would a modern adaptation even be? I imagine they would cut out a lot of the early superhero stuff and many of the gag parts, but even then they could probably only go as far as half of the original anime, not sure what the point of that would be in the grand scale of it all. They could also adapt the new continuation, but i still havent finished the original so i have no idea if it would be a good jump in point.
ZIPMAN ended with the mc joining the ZIP UP police force which is where the ZIPPO oneshot starts
does Shibata regrets not sticking with yomikiri premise? hmmmm...
Always wondered what goes through an authors or editors mind when making such drastic measures. Why completely throw away something that I assume had positive reception in its initial form? Recently NeoLation did the same, the Giga miniseries had a distinct dual protagonist dynamic with a more delinquent and crime focused story, but it was dropped in favor of whatever that unfocused mess the serialization was. At the same time Undead and Agravity's one shot was pretty much remade for the serializations first chapter.
The most interesting case I can think of might be Tabata's, whose Hungry Joker one shot was almost a Toriko like monster hunting manga with some scifi elements, which then turned into a simple modern, contemporary setting with evil supernatural organization, and flopped. After that he stuck with his initial idea from the oneshot of Black Clover and it resulted in a hit.
