Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

🔝 When I first saw the picture, I always wondered why Senku was with Ru, then I learnt about Boichi and his previous works. Oda's Goku is literally staring into my soul, why is Hinata on a horse, who is the busty girl beside Yuuna, and God damn, why is Horikoshi's art so clean

Furudate's pick is Midori no Makibo.

Miura's is cult classic Shadow Lady.

Lala. Her name is Lala, not Ru.

Naruto, Jujutsu Kaisen, Toriko, Promised Neverland, World Trigger, Tower of God, Solo Leveling, Undead Unluck?

Also, Fairy Tail was influenced by one piece and wasn't too derivative in comparison to Naruto's influence on Black Clover and My Hero Academia. One Piece also influenced MHA and BC. Story-wise OP is not the most influential, but several series take from the art-style. I don't see too much Bleach influence story-wise either.
I think there's some popularity/proximity bias; I don't think Naruto or even Bleach are that much more influential to mangaka than One Piece.
I guess power system wise and “smarts wise” (for a lack of better words) those series were influence by HxH, I was more thinking of story telling. The world and story of HxH ain’t push forward purely by the main characters like those series.

As for fairy tail, that series was accused of copying one piece for years which goes with my point. For MHA and BC, those series draw influence from a lot of places (apart from the world building in BC of late), so i don’t see much influence from one piece on their part.

Also i would say JJK draws influence from bleach, stylistically and with story telling.

Lala was an inventor, and quite a lot of chapters of To Love Ru revolved around Lala making a new crazy invention (then the invention goes wrong). Inventor paired with inventor.

Sure it's sci-fi inventions vs bringing back forgotten real inventions, but it is a sort-of successor to To Love Ru in that sense.

Huh. I always assumed since the manga was called To Love Ru her name was Ru

I wish we got a color spread with his drawings of the Jump roster every year, his colored stuff is one of the best in the magazine.

Expected Moriking to have more votes considering the high praise but performed well, but i also thought Torture Princess were more popular here since is popular on MP, only 1 user voted and in the comment thread only.

Anyway, voters were very low in this issue, slow week i guess.

Oh no.....Renderchads...?
Both got 1 vote that i had to exclude because the rules, Princess was saved in the comment votes.

I am bit surprised at the UU ranking. I hoped it would get a Top5 placement here but didn't expected first place. Guess people really liked the nameless Teacher and the idea how to use Zombies in combat or something like that.
I wonder if GotW gonna finish under 19 chapters like Zipman or if it can get 20+. Not sure which way it will go but there don't seem to be high expectations here in this forum at least.

Umm, You quoted me as saying that, when it was actually @AbrahamOmosun

Oh no.....Renderchads...?
I don't read STR so I can't exactly give it a vote...

I think people are just more careful with new series now after Zipman ended the long U19 thirst marathon, plus after seeing the sales of the newcomers it might seem safer to give new series an "it's good/okay" ranking and not too many points and wait where they will go from. Like the first chapter is nearly always "good" but what's important is if the quality stays the same or improves in following chapters. I am more curious to see where Moriking ranks next chapter here than of the rank of the first chapter of the new series this week which I forgot its name of. Was it Bone Collector?

Man, I really want to know who Fujimoto would have picked for this:

Oh yeah. Oda Goku...
Akutami picking Takeshi is dope as hell

Kinnikuman's legacy is probably the most underrated

Talking about influences, stye, legacy, etc..
What do you guys consider each author's style? Areyou talking how they structure the stories? The art?

For example @Tamil you mention that perhaps Kubo had an influence on Gotouge, and Kubo himself had a HUGE influence from Masami Kuruamda's works (Saint Seiya basically) I suspected this pretty much since Idk... 2005-ish, the Soul Society is pretty much the Twelve Houses arc in Saint Seiya redone in a more modern setting, Kubo Tite then confirmed that one of his biggest manga influences was Saint Seiya..

So Gotouge would have been influenced by Kurumada (perhaps even indirectly, perhaps Gotoge doesn't even know Kurumada's works).

I haven't read KnY but this character always kinda resembled Shaka to me.
I think the KnY character is a Pillar, Shaka is a Gold Saint (Basically Saint Seiya's pillars).

Anyway talking about styles, I think Oda's style is world building and leaving more mysteries than actually answering them.. Also he has a way to make the plot get a sentimental ending even after battles end.

Kishimoto I dunno, for me his plot structure was always about giving characters motivations/flashbacks during fights, I dunno if anyone here has watched/read Yowamushi Pedal but it's kinda similar in that they are in the middle of a super epic biking race and suddenly you get a flashback with said characters motivations.

As for Tite, as I said he pretty much copied Saint Seiya's formula for a new generation, but added some cool plot mysteries in Soul Society. His style is also kinda reminiscent of Saint Seiya, not in a very intuitive way, like they draw nothing alike, but the way both Kurumada and Tite draw each character's actions (Big cool looking poses, little dialogue, big emphasis on the characters sometimes without backgrounds..) BTW Takeshi Konomi of Prince of Tennis pretty much also kinda got influences by Kurumada's Ring Ni Kakero.

Horikoshi.. I'd guess was perhaps influenced by Oda in the art style and maybe Naruto in the plot? Seems like MHA is a mix of both to me.

Those are the WSJ artists that I remember right now, obviously Hokuto No Ken had a huuuuge influence on titles from the 80s, e.g. Jojo, then Jojo had huuuge influences on other titles like Shaman King, Yu-Gi-Oh! etc.. So it's kinda like a baton pass in a sense.

I figured Kimetsu's habit of giving tragic backstories and flashbacks during fights to every character even the villains could be inspired by Naruto or One Piece
