Kimetsu collab in next ribon issue,

-----
Jump Tezuka Award accepting other languages for the first time

English, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean.
Ribon is a shoujo magazine aimed at fairly young girls, right? Like primary school age? Kimetsu certainly captures a wide range of demographics.

The last Samurai 8 cover is so pretty, really wish for Okubo to return with a series, his art evolution in only 40+ chapters was amazing.

If I remember correctly didn’t Kishimoto do a lot more regarding the art than what we were lead on.

Kishimoto drafted and storyboarded the manga. And from what we’ve seen of Kishimoto’s drafts it looks like he had practically penciled most of everything, and it seems like Okubo handles a lot of the ink work.

Could be wrong, and honestly we only saw maybe a few pages in the early stages, so Okubo may be doing way more.
But always thought it was weird that Kishimoto was only considered the writer, while Okubo was credited as the artist, when on the surface it looks like both of them are doing the art 50/50

IIRC in series with writer-artist duos it's normal for the writer to make the names

Especially for the latter. Undead x Unluck has so much potential to grow as a series. I'm liking it the most of the newbies.
Right? It has such a great worldbuilding and so many characters you want to get to know more. It’s probably the most interesting this year, and I’m all for it. I really hope they will give it time to grow.

Say whatever you want, but GoTW’s cover is really really good. It’s one of those covers that you see in a bookstore and can’t help peeking the first pages. I’m sorry, but the author did a good job.
S8’s cover is amazing as always, and this one is the icing on the cake.

I hope for this as well!! Really saw progression in his art and would be great to see a series from him.

Haikyuu and GOTW covers are pretty clean too ⚡

AC's 1st volume hit 1 million in print in 26 weeks approx. It debuted in Nov 2012 and by May 2013, Vol 1 was already at 1 million print.

https://mantan-web.jp/article/20130513dog00m200017000c.html

So, SxF is running to be 3rd quickest Vol 1 to hit 1 million then.
That's very fast indeed
But, if we are using print data, then there are probably more older manga that reached 1m in under a year (I haven't checked but I wouldn't be surprised if manga like Slam Dunk and GTO did it).
And if we use sell-through data only (so, Oricon weekly/yearly rankings since 2008), then I found that it took a little bit more time for AC to reach 1m.

My reasoning is the following:
It came out in November 2012, had 3 weeks to sell in the 2012 Oricon year during which it sold 261,509 units.
It then appeared in the 2013 ranking of the best-selling volumes. It apparently sold 756,451 more units. That's a total of 1,017,960 units in 55 weeks.
So, we can't precisely know when it reached 1m units. If we use the Shoseki rankings to know how much it sold in its 53rd/54th/55th week, we get the following:
Week 53: Ranked #143. #100 sold 9,300 units, #200 sold 4,900 units. AC's Volume 1 should be around 7,408 units.
Week 54: Ranked #147. #100 sold 7,900 units, #200 sold 4,550 units. AC's Volume 1 should be around 6,325 units.
Week 55: Ranked #194. #100 sold 6,500 units, #200 sold 4,000 units. AC's Volume 1 should be around 4,150 units.
For a total of 17,883 units, meaning that after 52 weeks, AC's first volume had sold about 1,000,077 units. Shoseki isn't Oricon, so we can't quite compare them, but it does seem to show that AC's first volume reached 1m units with its 52nd or 53rd week

Wow, the GotW cover is... a bit unpleasant to look at. And it's trying to be dynamic with its poses, but it doesn't really work, especially since they almost randomly placed the image of the protagonist on the image of the witch, as if it was some sticker xD

Bit disappointing, considering how much praise the manga got for its early color work. You know, there was this case with manga reusing old color pages/Jump covers for volume covers (Dr. Stone and David-kun come to mind) - in this case, I might've actually preferred that x)

IIRC in series with writer-artist duos it's normal for the writer to make the names
But those are usually super basic sketches from the writers, almost stickfigure doodles, that get completely overhauled, in layout, angles, designs, etc.

Samurai 8 hype campaign showed Kishimoto's too (which I'm too lazy to search for), and they looked not like the typical writer ones, but that of a solo author. Pretty much the finished work but only pencilled (like a comicbook artist), so Okubo was almost only doing the inking and some extra detail, at least in the beginning. But I'm sure the workload and freedom changed a lot as it went, because the designs at least got a lot less Kishimoto-y in my opinion.

Clearly someone hasn't read Bakuman.
It's a rough sketch of the chapter, to put it simply.
Names = the storyboards you mentioned.
Oh. Weird thing to call a storyboard. I understand this is common. But to my understand Naruto sorta had the same process(at least towards the end)

And I always thought it was strange that manga industry doesn’t credit both Penciler and Inker like the American and French industry

And this is more so what I meant.
Kishimoto’s storyboards were practically just sketches of the final product. It seems like the other guy was just the inker.

So AC didn't actually sell 1 million until an entire year then.
So yeah, SxF can probably overtake AC.

Print number wise for 1st volume, which was the fastest series that we know of in WSJ? SxF still doesn't have 1 million in circulation for 1st volume, as far as I'm aware.
Also, I'm fairly certain something like Death Note would've annihilated both these.

Manga industry is very different from American and French comic industries in many ways.

Think it depends on who the author is. If they are an artist like Kishimoto, then their names are going to be a lot more complete whereas if they are someone like Tsugumi Ohba (writer of Death Note, Bakuman, Platinum End), their names would look something like this.

Plus, even Kishimoto's names are just rough sketches. The actual inking and use of screentones and whatnot are what take up the bulk of the drawing time anyways. Artists like Kishimoto, Oda etc can draw those rough sketches fairly quickly.

Also for those who don't know, NAMES are pronounced as "NEH-MU"

Kishimoto’s storyboards are still way more detailed and completely looking than what is done in these examples.

And my point is more so that this is likely the same process that was done in Naruto. Most manga artist leave stuff like inking, screentones, and even background art to their assistants to begin with.
It’s not like Kishimoto is doing simple panel layouts and placeholder figures for compositions. He was doing the character designs, and basically sketching the page in its entirety, which was what he likely did to begin with. The entire manga looked exactly like Naruto.
The art was rough in the beginning, but mostly because of the lack of depth and clarity in the inkwork
