Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Finished binging Demon Shonen Jump Slayer thanks to the vault. I would put this under my personal collection of what i called "Toriko effect". Basically because I was binging these two as oppose to reading them weekly, i don't see the complain from weekly readers.

I find the arc and villain structure similar to Black Cat and Houshin Engi, two series which i am fond off (With the latter being top 5 completed wsj). Fav arc would have be
Red Light District. Uzui the GOAT

Does anyone disagree that agravity and guardian are getting axed without any chance of bouncing back? I've been seeing phrases like 'mabye the second volume will truly tell us' and stuff like that, but it looks pretty obvious to me...

They've sitting at the back of the magazine (bottom 5) for just about their entire run. I assume there's low engagement with them in the polls. And if jumps gotta make space, why would it be anything else?

In the same regard, what series have sat at the back for 10+ chapters only to rebound (and that means 10 chapters in a row at bottom 5)? Hasn't been anything in the past year, that's for sure.

Guardian of the Witch is essentially a sure thing since it both ends up at the bottom of the TOC frequently and had poor sales. Agravity is less certain of a case since its first volume's sales were acceptable enough, got a reprint, and has an official Twitter account. But at the same time, it's been in the bottom 5 its entire run, hasn't gotten a color page since the beginning, and either isn't getting much votes in the weekly polls or isn't being pushed by the editors. The pros basically match the cons in this case. It could go either way at this point, but veterans winding down may prolong its life a bit.

Massive Jump for Haikyu!! considering this volume is also getting reprints

Volume 39: 260,748 (5)
Volume 42: 267,517 (5)
Volume 43: 341,136 (5)

That also puts it over MHA and TPN's recent volume when comparing their first 5 days

Haikyu!! #43: 341,136 (5)
My Hero Academia #26: 288,727 (5)
The Promised Neverland #18: 265,221 (5)
Interesting, indeed.
Do we know if this volume was bundled with extras or anything?

The thing with Agravity Boys is that despite the "always" positions in the bottom, everything else has been quite positive towards it, the first volume sold better than everybody expected, got reprints, super great reviews, even recently mentioned in a radio show, all of these are things that never really happens when a manga is just a flop like Guardian for example, a series no one really cares in Japan, so the ToC rankings and sales/overall reception are telling a different story each one which makes everything a lot confusing to predict, a bit like Mitama Security in the opposite, a series that is selling poorly but still got very decent positions in the ToC.

I think that with AB, the "let's wait for the 2nd volume" it's a good argument, because it showed the potential and a fanbase with the first one and i think the second will make the future a lot more clear.

The yearly record is held by OP 61, not 66, at 3,382,588 copies sold, so it's a bit more than that actually

This seems to be the only one I could find, pertaining to Volume 43.
I doubt bookmarks are the sole reason for a 70k increase, considering they're only available and limited at certain stores, and Volume 38-42 all had similar purchase benefits and neither grew this much

Volume 41 actually had 5 sets of bookmarks lol

You're right, 66 is the one with the biggest first week. Just fixed it.

I remember asking what got axed after getting a reprint recently, and a person said Shuudan. Was it's position and sales similar to Agravity?

Yeah, as Ryuusei said, being the first volume post-S4 probably helped things. And did they do PVs like this for previous volumes? No clue if that helped any.

Any of you think that the only reason why Mitama is still alive is because the editors took a liking to it and they're trying to keep it afloat? Just a crackpot theory of mine.

Thanks. If Shuudan came out now instead of before, those sales would be pretty similar to Undead Unluck I believe. I wonder if it would have survived if it came out now.

probably just in a spot where it’s not doing anywhere near the worse, so there’s no reason to cancel it, but nor is it doing well enough to say it’s doing particularly great

mitama or agravity or any series really (but so far 3 for 3 all have been a gag) can stay in the bottom of the ToC for quite some time (jaguar, isobe isobe monogatari and tomato lycan)

The current poll has given me an idea that I want to test here.

Let's rate from 0 to 10 the last 10 chapters of the Jump manga in general. Only rate them. Not comments about the reason, since is spoiler terrain. If you aren't reading the manga or you haven't read the last 10 chapters of the manga, just post "Not read"
Mashle - 7 (love the past/current "arc" btw)
Kimetsu - 5.5 (Overall series is a 7-7.5)

Not caught up with the last 10 chapters of the other series atm so could only rank those 2.
