Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I would probably add Oda to TPN since he mentioned Posuka once in an author comment. So far, Oda said goodbye to every single manga whose author he mentioned in an author comment before.

Also Posuka-chan is extremely informal. They must be on very good terms if he can get away with referring to her like that in public (and calling her a weirdo on top of that).

Lol. So I was going through the start of 2019's WSJ thread and uh, we put up our wishlist for that year

Mine was -
My wishlist
- MHA being a million seller
- TPN being a million seller
- Kimetsu touching 400-500k in sales per volume
- Jujutsu touching 200k per volume
- Kishimoto's new series being fresh and not something we've seen before

- Hopefully get some confirmation that Kubo will do another work soon in a year or two.

To think Kimetsu might actually go 10x by what I assumed and might touch 4 million a volume at some point by this year or next is insane.
Jujutsu also exceeded my expectation without an anime. Totally can see it hitting 600-800k a volume now at its peak.

MHA and TPN disappointed since neither became million sellers.
Kishi - All that potential, lost. Moving past that.
And yaay, Kubo is sorta coming back.

I think the funniest bit is the fact that if you added my wishlist's sales I wanted for all those series, it would still be LOWER than what the peak KNY's volumes have done.
You did that too? Lol I also was looking through the comments. Many had their bets on Neverland to beat OPs in yearly sales. Also, I found this and case on point. https://mangahelpers.com/forum/posts/5084216/

It's super funny reading all the replies to that comment because it was a pretty hard thing to accomplish.
"Best than OP, SNK, My Hero and Neverland?
I doubt. "

"I agree with this, even if gets a huge boost i doubt it can surpass he top 3."

"Nope. It should get another boost with the demon train arc if the second season comes next year and not the one after that."

"Nah. It's probably not even going to surpass MHA's sales let alone reaching One Piece's level (which has constantly been no1 for more than a decade)"

I should have added this the other day but Kimetsu no Yaiba has lifetime sales of 60,027,496 copies in Oricon. The most recent circulation number is already beaten, now make way for 80 million.

I wish I was here back then just to see my own face crack a year later cause I would probably say some of these.

Also, the best-selling volume within a year.

Uhh, what do you mean hurt normal volume? Selling a special makes more money than selling the normal volume, lol, they don't care if the number looks smaller. And oricon will count it separately, it's 2 skus.
Well that's just what I'm trying to say. That when they count when he sold volume 20 they will add it to the special edition, although Oricon counts it separately.

I admit, I'm a little salty about MHA not becoming a million seller, because to this day I still can't shake the feeling the anime fucked up somewhere. Not to mention if you read the current spoilers.......Goddamn.

Somebody buy whoever made that bold prediction a Glenlivet. Or some Premium Japanese imported Sake. If they're legal. Whoever they are, they fucking deserved it.

Well that's still decently above KnY 20 with both normal and SE combined, so I guess no controversies or buts to see here.

... is it wrong that I looked at Kimetsu Volume 20 + SE FW numbers and thought that it was actually underwhelming? XD

I was like “It sold less than 2 million. Huh.”

There was a survey or something like that which said that Kimetsu was really popular with girls and women, someone has the link or the image?

Wasn't that talked about on one of the Japanese TV shows?

I remembered a survey or sort, but if it was that maybe I was mistaken but I can't find a source.

This one? This was done after the anime ended, but there was one while the anime was airing it had a 5:4 ratio I think. But now it's audience it's pretty wide.

Massive Jump for Haikyu!! considering this volume is also getting reprints

Volume 39: 260,748 (5)
Volume 42: 267,517 (5)
Volume 43: 341,136 (5)

That also puts it over MHA and TPN's recent volume when comparing their first 5 days

Haikyu!! #43: 341,136 (5)
My Hero Academia #26: 288,727 (5)
The Promised Neverland #18: 265,221 (5)

Haikyuu!!'s big jump in numbers (over 70,000) is quite curious. This might mean Haikyuu!! got back some of its public or this volume is heavily frontloaded. This is also the first volume to come out after the 4th season ended so it might have had some influence. My Hero Academia 27 will also be the first volume of the series to be released after the 4th season so who knows it might also influence the upcoming volume (thought its release is still a bit far away so I have my doubts).

There's also an argument to be made that the emergency state isn't actually affecting manga sales in general, so others declining or not growing might more of a natural occurrence. That aside, Kimetsu's Fanbook finally crossed 1 million and volume 18 grows closer and closer to breaking One Piece 66's yearly record.

Man, Spy × Family sure is selling like crazy. That's amazing for a relatively new series.

Not super surprising, wonder what that means for Jujutsu, considering it's the next thing airing in that timeslot, maybe Haikyuu will just be moved to a different time when it comes back?
