Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Dragon is head canon.
he has hype and character statements that place him that high, mot to forget the narrative would dictate him to be that high since he is fighting and winning vs the ruler of the world

Shanks and Dragon are likely very strong. One is a Yonko despite having a small crew. The other is the son of Garp, the father of Luffy, the leader of a revolutionary group, the most wanted man in the world. He has to be strong.

I actually forgot about him, he's a wildcard, and I would probably put him in that "Shanks, Akainu, BB" group, just ahead of Kaido and BM.

He's too hard to rank imo.

Dragon would be good for no.6 in the rankings.

For sure he's hard to rank. I just feel narrative wise, he'd have to be at that level, Yonko/Admiral level. Sabo, the guy he trained, was able to toy with a YC from Black Beards crew, and had no issue when confronted by an Admiral. Dragon has to be at least that strong, but of course he'll be stronger. So i put him that group at the top where I can't rank who is actually stronger.

Shanks, BB, Dragon, Kaido in some order. Then BM/Kaido probably equal, close to the top group, but since they're both going to get beat now, they are under them (it's manga...that's how it works lol). I'd put those two over the remaining admirals. Mihawk is probably close to the admirals, but a step below any Yonko (WB was weak at the time of his death, but Mihawk still chose to test the gap between them from hundreds of yards away, and WB didn't seem all that concerned. He's not Yonko level).

I dont see how people place Akainu on Yonko level. He lost to old injured Whitebeard in 2 hits. His magma fist was blocked by Shanks and he didnt bother fighting back agaisnt Shanks. That is proof enough that Akainu would lose to Shanks. For example, Aokiji vs. Doffy... Aokiji frozed Doffy and Doffy didn't even bother to fight back. Are you going to say Doffy can defeat Aokiji?

Shanks has clashed with at least 2 Yonko so far. If Akainu or the Admirals were really Yonko level then why dont they go defeat them so easily. The WG fears 1 Yonko enough to call their elite marines and the Warlords to help fight off one. Yet, y'all think an admiral can take one down.
Dragon is still unknown so im not going to comment on him but I dont think he is Yonko level.

Admirals are already top tiers of the OP world and Akainu is the strongest one. WB was the strongest man in the world and before he went berserk mode, Akainu kept up with him and was able to injure him. Losing to WB isn't an anti-feat, actually no one would've been able to beat him.

The Shanks moment isn't a knock off against Akainu though. Ace and WB are dead, Luffy is gone, there are 2 pirate crews about to wreck havoc and the island is on the brink of destruction and Sengoku clearly wanted to end the war. It would've made no sense for them to continue fighting because Shanks and is crew are fresh and ready when everyone else is still trying to recover. Akainu could very well beat Shanks in a fight but their little moment during the war doesn't determine the outcome. Doffy isn't an admiral or a yonko so it's a much different thing.

You're second paragraph makes no sense. No one is saying Akainu or the admirals are going to stomp the Yonko, they are all relative to each other in terms of strength. They are on the same tier. Yes, admirals can very much defeat a Yonko. You saying otherwise goes against the narrative of the story. Nobody is stomping anyone once you make it up that high.

Akainu vs Shanks is a knock off for Akainu and Blackbeard. Both of them were pumped up after WB's death and wanted to fight more. Blackbeard wanted to try out his new powers while Akainu wanted to kill Luffy and more of the WB pirates. But once Shanks showed up they both calmed down real quick. Because they know they would have lost the fight. There is no evidence to show that Akainu could defeat Shanks, none at all that is your headcannon. Let me guess you believe because Akainu might be the EOS villain, he must be the strongest there is.

Also there is no evidence at all to your claim "admirals can very much defeat a Yonko". Your headcannon game here is strong.
Unless you can back it up with references to the manga then I will believe you, but if you can't then stop saying nonsense. What you're saying actually goes against the story. Like I've mentioned before, the WG is scared of the Yonkos, that is why they had the 100,000 elites in the Navy HQ PLUS the 5/7 Warlords to fight off 1 Yonko pirate crew. If what you are saying is true, then why didn't the admirals just fight the WB pirates themselves.

Everyone was injured, and actually no one was ready to continue fighting. Sengoku even admitted to it. If anything, you're making it seem like no admiral has a chance of fighting a yonko which is simply not true. A fresb yonko vs an injured admiral. Of course the latter isn't going to fight. Not that difficult to comprehend.

There is no headcanon in what I'm saying. You're wanking the yonko lmao. The admirals and the yonko are the top tier of OP whether you like it or not. To say that Akainu has no chance against one is headcanon. I also don't need to prove anything when you're making the claim. Nowhere is it mentioned that the yonko are tiers above anyone else.

Why would the admirals fight the WB pirates when they're washed up? You actually make no sense.

To say someone like Kizaru or Akainu doesn't stand a chance against someone like Big mom is hilarious.

Whitebeard was kinda considered to be on a different level, even among the Yonkou, so I think the Marines were being extremely cautious just because of that alone. If it was Kaido or Big Mom? I don't think they'd go all in like they did for Marineford. Plus Ace was a special case anyway, with him being Roger's son, so they wanted to ensure he died that day.

That being said, when Whitebeard was on his rampage towards Ace, there were only two obstacles that kept stopping him, his illness and Akainu. He was the main one who prevented Whitebeard's progress well before his illness took it's toll. Even if you don't think the other Admirals are up there, Akainu has the feats that imply he's on the level.

Shanks stopping him and him not fighting against him doesn't mean much of anything. Akainu wasn't even aiming for Shanks, so he intercepted a blow not for him. While impressive on Shanks behalf, it doesn't really take away from Akainu. As for not choosing to engage him further, Sengoku, Akainu's then superior, was the one who called for the end of the war. We have no idea if Akainu was still down to fight as we didn't get his thoughts on it like we did Blackbeard's. For all we know, Akainu could've been aroused at the thought of fighting even more pirates, but couldn't because his superior called the whole thing off.

I would say more illness than Akainu... Akainu was able to lay blows but only when Whitebeard was weakened.

I also disagree that Whitebeard was on a different level than Yonko's. Lets take Linlin as an example. She was able to knock people off even in her sleep, something Newgate was shown to do in his sleep as well. PLus she's an iron balloon, which surely Kaido is and perhaps Whitebeard is too..

I think Whitebeard pirates were a different level in terms of the allies they had. They had so many allies with them, which doesnt seem to be the case with Kaido and Big Mama.T

We know for a fact that all if not most Yonko have the ability of Conqueror's haki. None of the marines have it, so perhaps even the Admirals dont. One cannot say Akainu is at the same level as the Yonkos.

Whitebeard had been referred to as the one closest to One Piece for quite a while now. Add that to the fact that Oda has recently dedicated portions of Oden's arc to demonstrate that he was comparable to Roger to some extent and I'd say that he was on another level compared to his current contemporaries.

Oh yea, forgot about him.... so i take the "none of the marines" back, but still unlikely the other admirals do.

But how does that equate in strength? After everything we've seen Big Mom do, how can one say Akainu is at the same level? Big Mom is closer to whitebeard than Akainu is... And for Kaido, the title of strongest creature puts him at the same near level as Whitebeard, so again, higher than Akainu...

We probably won't agree on this, but I don't find it unlikely. Especially with Sengoku being confirmed to have it.

All things point to Roger being the strongest Pirate of his time. Whitebeard being comparable to him is a pretty big deal. And bounties aren't the end all be all, but the fact that the two of them still hold the record despite their death, implies that they were indeed on another level that hasn't been reached yet.

The key word here is seen. We haven't seen much of anything from the Admirals post time skip. But the Yonkou have had plenty of time to show off and just exist on panel. The Admirals don't have titles, but that doesn't mean they aren't on the level. I have no doubt that by the time the Admirals pop back onto the scene and get some screentime, we'll see what they are fully capable of and that they will basically be the Marines' equivalent to the Yonkou.

Hell, we saw Kizaru go toe to toe with Rayleigh, who could probably be considered Yonkou level himself.

I am not opposed to the idea of it..... It is unlikely in my opinion, but not a definite no.... We know that conquerors haki have the qualities of a leader/king for sure. ll of them, including Sengoku show that. Marines by nature are not leaders which explains the lack of users.... A. Going by that thread, you may extend it to Akainu at best, but not Aokiji, or Kizaru, who just are too lazy.

The admirals are higher than a Yonko commander for sure, and even demonstrated the emission type haki, so they all possess advanced armament haki. But nothing suggests that being enough to take down a Yonko

Yep, the key word is seen......
We can keep discussing but i tend to base on what we've seen which limits the argument in my favor, albeit in an unfair manner. If i were to rank them in strengths,
Yonko captain
Admirals
Yonko commanders

So an admiral is just under the Yonko but over a YC... they can go toe to toe but will not have any chance to win in a fair fight.

I also disagree tha Rayleigh is Yonko level. nothing suggests that, but both he and Oden and above Yonko commander levels.

What eefrit said. I also don't get how you can't put Akainu there when Whitebeard was never able to keep Akainu down. Dude got back up and nearly killed Luffy and Jinbei after killing Ace. Out of all the Marines, he was the most successful as he's the one who killed Ace.

OBVIOUSLY because if Akainu's close enough to an Emperor level or matches their strength, it'll be a Pyrrhic victory. Had Big Mom or even Doflamingo joined after Akainu beat Aokiji, Akainu would have lost due to the damage he took and the exhaustion. The Emperors avoid fighting each other and the Marines for this reason.

This actually is my line of thought for the most part, lol.

Aside from Akainu, who I believe is equal, I tend to lean towards them being closer to the Yonkou when it comes to scaling them. Under them, but still close enough to them in power.

If not Yonkou, he's definitely close enough. To the point where Garp was willing to let him be rather than split the Marines dealing with WB and Rayleigh.

Honestly I don't think Akainu is that far higher than his others fellow Admirals
I believe it was stated somewhere that they were pretty equal.
As for Marineford, to me, it just looked like unlike the 2 others, Akainu was really trying that's why he had results.
Kizaru was ready to go to Wano and face both Kaido and Big Mom without hesitation.
