Not that I really care about the series myself, but you should probably understand that someone who is almost 30 years old isn't the target demographic of a shonen magazine.
Yes, so? There’s others who regardless of age, young and old don’t care to follow ecchi series for similar reasons. My primary reason is, if a series only uses the plot as an excuse for fanservice, then it’s not for me. Plus, that argument is kinda moot since the majority of Jump readers now fall into the 17-35 age range, last I recall.
As it is right now, I’m in “wait-and-see” mode and give it until #5 to see if I’m going to follow it.

Not liking or caring about ecchi series is completely fine, i don't either. But to disregard them entirely and just put them on the same level as porn isn't really fair.
Also, despite the readership of the magazine getting older, it doesn't necessarily mean the kind of series getting published will particularly change. If WSJ started going after an older demographic, it would completely defeat the point of having something like Young Jump. Same reasoning applies to why despite half the magazine's readership being female, the magazine keeps being vastly catered towards males.
I found Magu-chan first chapter ok, I hope it's a set up that will be built upon, I can see myself getting bored with the current situation if it last too long, I know it's another "Fish out of Water" type of story and we just had Bone Collection and Moriking doing that, I don't like those 2 but I liked this one, it seems more genuine and less tryhard to be wholesome/funny
AT is basically doing what Yuuna did, thinking of an ecchi scene then writing the story around them instead of writing a story with some ecchi in it
it isn't action or battle or comedy or drama or romance or whatever, just coomer pandering
but honestly did anyone think Yabuki returning in the same week Yuuna end was just coincidence?
TPGW timeskip and development seems rushed, but at least something interesting is happening
Mashle delivered in the comedy when it needed to and delivered on intensity when it needed to, I loved this chapter
oh look! Yozakura's author remembered the other siblings existed
cautiously optimistic about Tamura return, Hungry Marie really made me lose a lot of faith in him, I hope his new manga is something different from everything running in the magazine at the moment

For the preview I'd say he's going to bring a more serious manga (but is Tamura, maybe we are getting more Beelzebub-style humor at the end). I have the hunch is going to be the first thing. Tamura should have noticed repeating the Beelzebub formula with Hungry Marie didn't work so he's going to try anything new.
This is a horribly flawed argument.
If wsj public stuff means for mature audiences because their readers are mature now, or publish shoujo manga because a significant portion of readers are female, would they still be as successful?
Hell no! People, regardless of their age, read wsj because it is made for boy demographic. If I want something more sophisticated, I would look elsewhere. Wsj isn't the only place for manga.
So stop pulling that card "I'm mature now so stuff I read should become more mature as me". It's really immature to not acknowledge the immatureness in stuff you like.
Problem with Hungry Marie was not because it repeated Beelzebub formula. Beelzebub has a central premise and goal: raise the devil baby. Hungry Marie doesn't have a clear, central premise or goal. It's all over the place.
Tamura should better spend more time planning this series. With Hungry Marie, all he did was throwing shit on to the wall, and missed every narrative marks (some jokes land tho, but that ain't enough).

If Hungry Marie repeated the Beelzebub formula it might have found success
HM was a weird boring mess that imo failed to deliver on anything it set out to do
and to make it worse, Tamura was given special treatment and didn't get axed with Poro and U19 but he did nothing with the extra time
I kept waiting for a moment where I go "yes, this is it, what i waited for, what i wanted more of " but that moment never came
I kept waiting for a moment where Tamura would turn the ship around but that never happened either
the series kept being a boring mess up to the very last chapter
Maguchan was very cute, I really liked it. The interaction between Magu and Ruru reminds me a little of Neuro and also a little of Assassinaton Classroom.
I wasn't expecting anything and even though nothing was super new, it was a nice read.
I always cringe a little when I hear people say they've "grown out of" ecchi, like the pursuit of bodily beauty and carnal desires aren't the literally driving force behind millions of years of human development.
Like you got slightly older, and don't like anime tiddies now for some reason? Great. But to say you "grew out of" it is like saying it is only made for horny teenagers and that once you hit 21, your appreciation of the human body in art just completely dissipates. Just comes off as a really lame way of phrasing it.
Also, complaining about panty shots in a manga by an author/artist that used moderate to heavy ecchi in 3 of their 4 successful series is like complaining about the authors of Chainsaw Man or Jujutsu Kaisen coming back with something dark and violent. Don't like the most expected scenario, just don't read it.

I really don't want to sound arrogant, but, isn't it for horny teenagers? And there's no problem liking something aimed at a specific group or whatever.
And I see no relation in liking ecchi and apreciating the human body.
Anyways, in relation to Ayakashi, I think Thunder's comments is very reasonable. There's no reason for someone who doesn't like ecchi to read it.

Completely normal to grow out of seeing female characters, particularly underage ones, being (over)sexualized.
If someone still enjoys that kind of stuff, by all means. But to hide behind appreciation of the human body and carnal desires? That's a new one for me (and makes me cringe more than you did!).
Now that I noticed, with the end of yuuna and TPN. Act age became the only jump manga with a female protagonist, at least until now that Magu-chan debuted.
This is dumb. If not for the love of human body, why do people even like ecchi in the first place?
I like female figure, thus I like ecchi.
I can appreciate male figure, thus I like maleservice like that scene in golden kamuy.
Can't say I'm a fan of this one though. I don't really like any of the characters, the story feels like something I've read several times before (the first chapter of Kenshin, to name one), but worse because they don't even solve the mystery. The constant racism also gets annoying really fast (I know it's historical, but still) and the moral talk just bores me.
Last chapter of Guardian of the Witch and first chapter of Magu-chan. The extra series to vote this week are:
-Dragon Ball Super 61
-Boruto: Naruto Next Generations 47
-Jigokuraku 102
IMPORTANT DETAIL ABOUT THE VOTING
I did the change in the traditional poll last week where each vote for each series counts as 3 points instead of 1, after posting and everything i do agree with James Rye, it felt unbalanced since in the comment votes the 5th place kinda lost it mean with the value of only 1 point, so because of that i decided to make a little change in the distribution of points to balance things, now the point distribution in the comment votes will be:
1st = 9+
2nd = 8+
3rd = 7+
4th = 5+
5th = 3+
So now both polls are balanced again and that's the last change it will happen in the polls. Good votes.
But, think about coomers and Yabukifans.
Seriously, if that annoyed you, why did you read it in the first place. It's like a vegan go to a butcher shop and demand to be served vegan food.
Also, panty is pretty tame. I'm looking forward to seeing his neat reflection trick.
Ever heard of Black Cat? It was an action series with mostly male characters and virtually no fanservice, and one of my favourite manga ever.
So no, this isn't like a vegan going to a butcher's shop and demanding to be served vegan food. It's like a vegan going to a place where they had really good vegan food before, and being told that they only serve pure meat now. Even if you kinda saw it coming, it's still disappointing.
Just because, they were designed for teenagers, doesn't mean other people don't enjoy them. If that was true, everyone would stop reading one piece after 18 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tbh, I can understand your sentiments. But, Black Cat is like a millennia ago. More people know about to love ru than black cat. I bet even Darling is more famous with the current people than black cat.
So let me use a more familiar analogy rather than food analogy: this is like reading Jojolion expecting the HnK-esque artstyle of Phantom Blood.
Also, my problem with AT is it being too tame. I don't like that Yabuki pussy out and choose the middle ground. In the end, he pleases no one, not the black cat crowd nor the tlr crowd.

To be fair to Yabuki, there was way more ecchi moments in this 2nd chapter than the 48 page 1st chapter. He might only ramp up from here (meaning, I'm outta this one).
Black Cat was awesome, dude! Real shame that today's youth only know TLR and not the other stuff. *sits back in his rocking chair and mutters about good old manga times*
As for the ecchi debate, my personal view is that I see ecchi in three categories:
1. Ecchi for the sake of Ecchi
2. Ecchi for the sake of Character development
3. Ecchi for the sake of Plot development
If it is the first category then I can see and understand the point of not being interested much expect if you are horny, it had no further sense than to make you feel horny after all, neither the story nor the characters needed that ecchi-scene/s to further anything.
The save of Suzu by Matsuri. You can show off the panty shots (or Suzu's THICC thighs) but it wouldn't have been needed for the scene either. Like the almost kiss of the lips would have been enough, for example to show how focused Suzu was on her friend in that moment.
With the second category it is usually different as here ecchiness is part of the character or of their path to the character the mangaka wants to develop said character. For example as a rebel so you show off cleavage and short skirt to break the school rules or the other way around to be scared to show your skin for various reasons and having to learn the confidence to show your body in a swimsuit for example. Here ecchiness is either part of the character or it is something they have to overcome as a hurdle to reach a goal of their own. In other words eechiness has a reason to exist.
The start of the chapter with Matsuri checking out his new female body in the mirror. I saw nobody in this thread complaining about it or at least mention it specifically as a reason to feel annoyed or disgusted. And I think the reason for that is that this ecchi scene despite being far more explicit than the panty shot (Matsuri was almost nude expect for his fundoshi, he was embarrassed while fondling/squeezing his chest, close-up to the boobs, nipple peek in mirror, etc) has reason to be and people pick on on that due their reading ability and thus do feel less "offended" by its ecchiness than with the other situation.
Here Matsuri is basically discovering his new body he has to live in. And he defends his right to look and appreciate his own body ("This is pretty amazing." "It's my body! What's the problem?"). As a reader you could agree that being in a new body would want you to check it out after all you have to live with it from now on for who knows how long. The new body aspect is very important for Gender Bender and the ecchi part isn't just there to please the readers but also to show how Matsuri views his new body and what he thinks of it.
So in this case it is a character development - acceptance of the new situation and getting used to it. Since he has to bath anyway he will see himself in the full nude anyway, no way around it except doing everything blindfolded. As reader you know that this could lead to further paths for this character, so seeing Matsuri in the nude is less arousing and more interesting to see how he and Suzu reacts to it.
With the third category, ecchiness serves a purpose, pretty often in harems obviously but also battle or even just story mangas. Seductions for example can be done with explicit worded hints, poses, cleavage and so on and would all be considered ecchi but unlike in the first category where they were not needed to solve a situation it is absolutely needed as a "weapon" in this. Like pushing your boobs onto the arm of the harem MC while clinging to it, for example. Some people might not see it as an ecchi situation but it is, two bodies touching in an intimate way often with the goal to make the other party aware of the one initiating said touch. It can be used as distraction (sexy-jut-su in Naruto), as humor (Sanji dying due boob clavage), or as an adversary often in mangas where the girl has to overcome the ecchiness to reach something which can sometimes be overcoming fear of how people see you and your body but also a challenge like having to do a trial where your clothes disappear but stopping means losing so the girl/s keep going even if they feel embarrassed by the situation (I think Yuuna had something like that? The Onsen scene with one or several girls hiding the harem MC can also be counted for that of which I think we have plenty of examples). So here ecchiness isn't the goal but a mean to usually reach a goal or avoid a unfavorable situation. And while also being plenty explicit people would probably be more accepting of it as they can read the purpose for it due the situation and character interaction whereas in the first category where the reader instinctively knows that this ecchi scene served no other purpose than to make you horny.
Which is probably why the panty shot had such a focus in the last pages because it had no other purpose than that. And for that I can understand not liking it.^^

I'm aware. But you still gotta check it out, y'know?
And Darling was actually readable to me. Yeah, the fan service got kind of ridiculous at times, but it was written as part of an actual plot (rather than just shoving the camera in somebody's crotch) and not every character was obsessed with bodies and sex. It feels more like a real story with occasional nudity, rather than porn with a plot.

This. I don't mind if a girl (or a boy) gets naked, if it's treated as part of the story.
I do mind if the POV focusses on body parts that should not be relevant to the scene in an attempt to make me like the manga more. If you want me to like the story, just write a good story. Don't make me feel like a creeper who's spying on girls in the shower.
