Glad this manga's getting more popular! I feel as if this current arc is dragging a bit, but I guess it's more of a result of reading biweekly. Still hope we get back to the balance of action, comedy, and ecchi that was in the beginning, but this arc's gonna shake things up a bit and I'm interested in what it'll do.
Saying a series has made it to the list is not quite right since it would seem all 20 series chosen are the Top 20 series with the highest circulation numbers in Jump, and coincidentally all of them are over 50 million copies in circulation, with the exception of Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken with 47 million and not considering Shaman King, which latest number is 53 million. This means what they did was just select those 20 and then leave the rest in the category Others.
So I actually went back to the Jump YouTube website and looked at all of the PVs because I realized that you could actually comment on them. So I thought that it would be interesting to look at each of the newbies' reception, using the power of Google Translate.
DISCLAIMER: This obviously isn't a complete representation of Japan's opinion of a newbie Jump manga, and I'm extrapolating this from YouTube statistics and comments of all things. But I think that it may provide a pretty decent picture of that, since I feel that only the most dedicated Jump fans would watch and comment on PVs on YouTube. Plus, it is the Japanese reception that decides what lives and dies at the end of the day.

So, here's the most interesting things I took away from the newbies:
ZIPMAN: A lot of people thought that this was related to HeroAca in some manner, or at the very least like HeroAca. I think someone who found the series interesting even said that it needs to differ from that series if it wants to survive. Fun fact, this PV has the most views out of any of them, though Ayakashi Triangle is not too far behind now. Agravity Boys: A fair few people want this to survive, as they find it pretty funny! A few didn't really find it all that funny, and some others mainly talked about the wonder that is Chris. Undead Unluck: A lot of people find it to be quite interesting, though some do worry that people won't like the fact that Andy's naked all the time. (There was even someone who hopes that it'll be adapted by ufotable. xD) MASHLE: The usual One Punch Man, Harry Potter, and Black Clover comparisons were made here, but I also saw a fair few mentions of Gintama. Someone even recommended this for people who like Saiki. Guardian of the Witch: HOO BOY. Okay, so the like-to-dislike ratio for this is a measly 32% (329 likes, 700 dislikes). It honestly kind of surprised me. Comments say that while the art is good, the manga itself isn't. They found it to be too derivative of a lot of other successful manga. Attack on Titan's the big one, but Demon Slayer, The Promised Neverland were mentioned as well. There's a few who found it interesting, but the majority seem not to. It's no wonder that this quickly fell to the bottom, holy shit. Manga seems to have been lucky to even reach 19 chapters. Moriking: This is where I learn that the author of Spring Weapon #1 wrote this, because that was frequently mentioned here. Many seem to like the series, though a few also mentioned that Jump's been serializing a lot of gags recently. Bone Collection: There seems to be some criticism levied towards the protagonists - both their personalities and their character designs. A good number also found this interesting, though maybe not to the same extent as Moriking. Time Paradox Ghostwriter: Okay, so someone here said that JP readers disliked this series mainly because of the male protagonist. Either that or the plagiarism. The comments here do seem to support this. A 72% like-to-dislike ratio (229 likes, 88 dislikes) isn't really good on YouTube, though it's nowhere near GotW. Still, doesn't seem to bode well for it's survival. Ayakashi Triangle: Mostly talks about Yabuki, interestingly, as well as the twist in Chapter 1 and its implications. It does seem as if people do like it, though, though a few wished it was more like Black Cat.
I hope this was helpful in some form. Again, this may not be completely accurate, but I was honestly just curious about what Japanese reception might be like, and I found an opportunity to both see and share. I may do this forfuture newbies if this proves to be accurate/helpful enough. If not, then ah well. At least it's something.

I mean, yeah it's selecting your favorite series from just those successful 20 titles, in a way I'd say. Still, some interesting choices, even if SLAM DUNK's popularity has been proved already with different and more empiric statistics and the top is pretty much foreseeable except maybe Gintama which may come as a surprise for those readers in the West who don't know much about the series that's still really huge Japan wise.
I just wonder what the criticisms of Black clover in Japan were like during the beginning. Because in the West, I'm sure that many criticized him for being cliché and not bringing anything new.

Good god I didn’t expect GOTW to be so hated. I thought I and everyone on the thread were just being critical of the series as we usually are with new series but even then they tend to have a good following on them. Apparently I was wrong, it’s strange how gotw was absolutely hated on and Zipman had more praise and a bigger following yet Zipman still ran for a shorter period than GOTW.
While I’m still against the plagerism argument I do feel the quality of TPGW has gone downhill drastically. At this point I’m giving it 3 more chapters to improve before I drop it. It’s sad because I thought it was going to be unique and special based on the first 3 chapters but now it’s just going down the road of being a Walmart version of bakuman. The main character is just way to unlikable and they haven’t even made use of the time machine and time travel to make it unique. This has time to turn around since it’s only 5 chapters but these last 2 chapters were honestly painful to read.
Glad undead unluck, mashle, and mori king are getting praise though because they deserve it 100%.
My two favourite sport series aren't on the list, Eyeshield 21 and Haikyuu but then you mentioned that all series there have over 50 Million in circulation. I hope Haikyuu can reach that number someday, and although it has become a very unpopular opinion, I'm glad that Kenshin still gets love after the whole Watsuki scandal since it's a very special manga in my opinion. With everything that's done I hope Watsuki could be forgiven one day

Tokyo shinobi squad had a lot of likes and was nonetheless canceled.
Time paradox I received extra pages for the reception of the public, thing that nobody here commented, personally it seems a good sign.
As I always said only criticism because of plagiarism is silly, since there are several sleeves that talk about heavier themes and are still successful.
Okay, he doesn't like the protagonist, but at least the other characters presented so far are good.
Don't forget there are series which got colour pages early on yet were still cancelled around ch 20. I can't imagine extra pages mean much before a series is even placed, could just be the author made too many and didn't want to cut any out.
I have to wonder what's going on when stuff gets colour pages yet is cancelled only a little later, like how Horikoshi's previous series, Sensei no Bulge, got a colour page on ch 10 "as thanks for the popularity", yet it got cancelled at just ch 16.
I could understand something like Hungry Marie since it at least lasted past ch 30, that's long enough to have seemed promising at first but dropped after they celebrated the early popularity, but surely if a series flops hard enough to join the U19 club they'd know it wasn't popular by ch 10.
I really doubt Jump would just go along with that and almost every newbie would have made that exact mistake at around the same time. It's just a marketing gimmick. "Come read the popular new series! It even has extra pages this week!" gets people thinking "oh I don't want to miss out on the new up and coming hit, I better read it"
