Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

This serialization round is good if you like gags mostly.
So your options if gags are not your cup of tea is...UxU, Ghost Writer and AT?

Trying to check one thing.

I'm trying to see if Tabata is saying hi to Tamura (not only because Tabata is by far the mos sociable Jump author who is always greeting other authors in author comments; also because Tabata is Tamura ex-assistant and they are friends). Understanding kanjis is hard

Tamura's series isn't gag or atleast does not look like one nor has been described as such.

Why would we have any reason to expect it's not a comedy hybrid series like all of his series and one-shots have been?

Tabata is Tamura ex-assistant and they are friends.
They were assistants to Iwashiro during Psyren and Tamura was Tabata's senior. I don't think Tabata was assistant to any other mangaka. Is there some info confirming this or you confused them?

It's sad yet darkly amusing how many of Iwashiro's assistants have achieved a significantly higher level of success than him.
Real shame, hopefully he can return this year though. Best chance for any mangaka to strike a hit right now.

Maybe you should read more beside weeklies.
Reading a lot of finished manga makes me appreciate concise and tight plot more than ever.
Some of the best experience I got with manga are from oneshot anthologies. You can't go any shorter than that.
After all, there are more to manga than just catching up week by week with Weekly Shounen Jump.
I read more that weekly's but I still prefer my manga being long. Binge reading is fun😃

Since Me and Roboko is only 34 pages, I wonder if that means we'll see it take up that end-of-magazine gag manga spot after a few issues. Meaning we might not get to see how it places in the ToC normally.

Speaking of which, what was the shortest Chapter 1 that Jump ever had?

Yeah I was thinking that. Kinda like isobe or something.

I hope the next serialization round is nothing but sports series.
I wonder what it would take for WSJ to serialize an E-sports manga.

I don't think he said that(maybe he did?).
But people are probably infering this from his previous series fire punch which had only 8 volumes.
8 volume is an absolutely normal length for a jump+ manga.

It’s in the same boat as Samon and Straighten Up. Lasted for over a year or two, but ended too soon.

If the sales were good, it probably should had gotten an anime. Usually anything that reaches past 100 or sells exceptionally well gets one. Then we have series like Seikimatsu Leader Den Takeshi, which was successful sales and length wise but never gotten a TV anime.
Takedshi not having anime maybe is due to a certain circumstance.

Also, tbh, why 100, 150, 250 chapters. Good stories can be varied in length after all.
And why such a need for anime adaptation. Even trashy isekai have anime adaptation while stuff like blue flag, komi-san don't. That doesn't mean trashy isekai are better than blue flag nor komi-san.

Hmm, or maybe the need for lengthy manga is just people not looking for good story, but something familiar to just keep consuming ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A good E-sports manga that convinces enough WSJ Editors to believe it got a shot at gathering a decent readership. At some point the future WSJ will get an E-sports manga series for sure. PC, Console, Mobile gaming has all become huge the past decades, it is no longer a niche of nerds and geeks but mainstream. Sooner or later a mangaka will manage to create a One-shot about E-sports that gets enough Editor votes to be shown in the magazine. Probably not this year though. This is the year of the comedy manga debuts.

An anime matters because it allows more to know of the source material. Many series had benefit from one. Without it, not many would know it exists. Boku no Hero alone is massively mainstream thanks to the anime.

Story can be good. Not all need to be super long. That’s part of why Beelzebub just stopped being good after a while.

They already have ran an e-sports manga, that's what World Trigger's Rank Wars are. Teams fighting digitally in set arenas with set abilities and commentators talking about on what's going on in the matches.

.
Takeshi not having anime is due to a certain circumstance.
If you're referring to sex scandal, that's not actually true.
Takeshi was around for about 5 years, it's odd it never got an anime, but if it were going to get one during its run it would have gotten one by that point.
It's also worth noting that Takeshi had already been declining in popularity by the time it was forced to end.
An anime could have helped it, but it didn't seem like Shueshia had much interest in approving one.

True, but imagine World Trigger being used as influence for a series about a team of
middle schoolers in a worldwide tournament playing multiplayer video games across a variety of genres.
Can't see it not being a massive hit.

Can you realistically imagine a well-written esports manga? Has there been any good ones before?

I never really understood this claim that Beelzebub got "bad". Always seems to be used by people who haven't actually read Beelzebub given the Tissue arc (second to last arc) is usually agreed within the fanbase to be the best in the series. The Field Trip arcs and Hero Show arcs were both directly before also are favorites in the fanbase.

The final battle arc is short and rushed but that's likely due to the series having to wrap up due to cancellation rather than any fault of Tabata. However, the Gaiden series is intended to work as an ending, and a great one at that. Wrapping up loose ends, and giving readers a truer sense of closure.

The reason the series ended was not due to quality, but the anime being a failure (shitty adaptation didn't help) so there was no real way to keep promoting and growing the manga. It's very rare for a Jump series to last more than a year after its anime ends.

Not being able to imagine it seems like a creativity deficit. I see such a series nearly writing itself.
Although World Trigger definitely shows that the concept has a lot of potential. Just set it in our world and have it cycle out different game genres per arc. Have a worldwide tournament with rivals across all sorts of ages and backgrounds.
It can feel like both a battle, and a spokon manga and has huge worldwide appeal.
